Yes.

Also, Big Gin, Hendricks, The Botanist, Uncle Val's, Crater Lake, all very good gins.

Try some Elderflower Liquer in your G&T it wakes things up a bit, as well as a dash or two of bitters.

Don't just use lime willy nilly, some gins go well with lime, some go great with lemon, some, Hendricks for instance, goes great with nothing more than some cucumber, or nothing at all. Gimlet, negroni, or just a good ol' G&T, or if at the right place, a Last Word.

Questions:

Does liking normal old sapphire make me a pleb? If so, why?

How does sapphire east compare to sapphire?

Thanks

A lil bit pleb? Like 3/10 plebos maybe. I'm a tanqueray guy so I can't talk shit about gin elitism.
>>
>>7473865
No it doesn't.

And I really like East. Sapphire is really nicely balanced and East kind of throws that out the window with fairly strong lemongrass and pepper notes, but it's a beautiful flavour imo

>>

Hell fucking yes, my man.

>>7473865
I mean nah, not really, Sapphire really is pretty good all things considered; not to my taste since I prefer something pinier like their regular London dry, Beefeater, or Tanqueray (yeah I know).
>>
New Amsterdam was surprisingly good imo esp for the price. Makes for good g and t's but a bit too spiced for negronis or tom collins
>>
>>7475479
what sort of gin is this? its not clear?
>>
>>7475502
Try genever. Gin with a malt whiskey note.
>>
>>7475548
It's Old Tom gin. The gin that came before London dry Gina and was the basis for many of the original gin cocktails. Generally they're sweeter than London dry gins and more subtle in flavor of the botanicals.
>>
>>7475516
Out of interest, where are you from?

Gordons is probably the cheapest you can buy here in the UK outside of supermarket own brands and Greenalls. Actually, Bombay Sapphire isn't even that much more expensive - it's still a relatively cheap gin. I'd also argue that it's a lot better than Gordons, but that's personal taste.

gin and tonics are pretty acceptable, but never ever my first choice
havent had gin much outside of them
>>
>>7472977
You know what, i feel like gin and tonic is the perfect example of maths. The double negative, to be more precise.

Gin on its own - aweful
Tonic on its own - even worse
Both together - most perfect of the basic drinks
>>
Alcohol noob here, if I'm at a bar and ask for a G&T, can I ask them to add extra gin like you do when you're ordering a coffee or is it set ratio only?
>>
>>7475894
is a gin and tonic even drinkable without lime or lemon though?

>>7475897
you can always ask for more alcohol
>>
>>7475905
I consider the lemon the equal sign in the equasion.

And on a more serious note, its drinkable.
>>
No. Alcohol consumption is only beneficial if you're doing other things wrong.

>>
>>7475894
Baloney. It's all in your head. Both together still tastes like tonic water.

Honestly gin is inferior in every way to vodka. Less possibilities, vodka can be substituted in almost all gin drinks, and the taste is pretty equivalent

I swore off gin after drinking Seagram's absolute shit, but this Bombay Sapphire stuff wasn't bad. I'm thinking of buying some more gin, but I'm not sure which brand to go for. Can you guys recommend me a mild gin?
>>

>>
>>7478182
Plymouth gin.
>>
Fuck sapphire and Bombay in general. Try a dry anything that cost more than 25 for a fucking fifth. You drink that shit straight no rocks, in a chilled glass. Maybe you add some sort of citrus juice but I swear to god adding simple syrup or any sugar and you are 10/10 gin pleb status. And no fucking orange juice either. Use lime, lemon, yuzu, grapefruit, maybe pomelo but even that's pushing it. If you think anything different you are a fucking retard who needs to step your gin game up or kill yourself.
>>
>>7478142
I cannot understand how someone can prefer tequila to gin
also, mix it with lemonade
>>
>>7478340
this, tequila's pretty vile
>>
>>7478182

Seagram's gin and 79 cent store-brand tonic water (preferred to nicer brands because they use less sugar to cut costs, less syrupy and more crisp) was my go-to for getting fucked up for ages.
For a cheap mixing gin, I'd defend Seagram's. Gordon's and the like are more harsh, Seagram's is mellow. Not a great flavor on its own, but it is what it is

Gordon's is fine gin if overpriced. But that seems to be the course for gin, all of it is overpriced. Probably because it's maintained its image as an upper-class drink.
>>
Lime in gin is alri but I think I'm moving towards cucumber - more fragrant and doesn't make it kinda sickly

Sapphire is alri - Gordons is less good

Why did gin suddenly become a meme with this generation? Literally no one gave a shit about gen even 5-10 years ago except for a handful of mixed drinks now I get ginposting on every social media from faggots who think they have some class.

News flash, gin was the drink of rabble and slummers because it was cheap and easy to make.
>>
>>7484319
Same reason scotch and rye were so popular for a while. Trendsetters move quickly from one fad to the next. Gin was super popular in the 90s and now it is again.
>>
>>7484319
It's like IPA. Insecure manchildren like to choke down drinks that taste like pine trees to prove how manly they can be so they can all glad-hand each other and get a false sense of smug superiority.
>>
>>7484319
Your reason for disliking gin is just as contemptible as their reason for liking it.
>>
>>7478354
Tequila is pretty great but mezcal is superior and extremely delicious. Any liquor that is distilled from 100% agave or other maguey is normally pretty good.
>>
>>7473035
YES
Hendricks and The Botanist are fucking based gins. Hendricks with cucumber is godly. The Botanist makes a nice negroni imo.
>>
>>7484319
Same thing that happened with meat that isn't boneless skinless chicken breast. Someone figured out how to make gin that actually tasted good, some people discovered that they wanted to pay money for that gin and drink it, and a niche was formed. Pretty soon that niche became mainstream and normal people began throwing around terms like "london dry" and "genever" like it was normal. Because it was.

It's both amusing and depressing when I see people like you on /ck/, complaining that the general public has taken an interest in consuming higher quality foods and drinks than they did in past generations.
