drain-o/lye etc isn't the most effective thing, think about what happens to liquids when you pour them down a sink. it'll clear enough of the clog for the drain-o to continue down and you'll still be left with a coated pipe that will clog again in short order
it's the reason why restaurants either willingly, or due to city regulations, pay to have a truck come by and suck all the grease out of the trap
also if you get a clog that lye can't clear and have to take apart the pipes, all of that is gonna come pouring out when you/the plumber unscrews the fittings
