Best of the best? Or just a television meme chef?

One of the best.
He did have a career before all of his shows.

You have eyes for yourself to realize that he's a COMPLETE FUCKING RAMPANT RAGING GIANT FAGGOT.

he doesn't even know how to make a fucking egg, everything he does is fucking drowned in butter and when you drown shit in fats of course it tastes somewhat good, he also puts burned garlic in the plate as if you were supposed to eat it (pouring liters of unnecessary oil), thing you can do only if you have some strange fetish for it and you can manage not to puke, he's more an actor than a cook.

He earns billions just by pretending he's angry on camera while me, which i am the most skilled cook i've met by far (maybe a family friend that used to own a restaurant in the countryside when i was a kid but he's all about traditional and national stuff, you can't expect him to know how to prepare curry rice) sit here posting on 4chan and trying to study computer science in the meantime...

>adds olive oil to pasta water
>doesn't salt the water, salts the pasta directly
>puts MORE olive oil on the pasta after cooking
Jesus fuck it's like he or whoever ordered him to make that video really REALLY wanted it to be for plebs. Also he's shit at skinning fish. His method will lead to tearing the skin on thin-skinned fish. He shows you how to skin a whole salmon fillet, not "fish".

Also he stole money early in his career on national television. And people still like him. I'm sure he's a better cook than me, because he has more time and more training, but I still think he's as overrated as IPA.
>>
>>7459306
is this bait?

implying he wasn't skinning a thin skinned fish, so whats the problem

He won 3 Michelin stars at Restaurant Gordon Ramsay. I agree that now he is really a TV personality/businessman but he was seriously good when he worked full time in his own kitchen

I hate Ramsay but he's the better chef. Irvine lied about his credentials too.

Meme or not, kitchen nightmares always keeps me motivated.
>tfw he visited my hometown for an episode and I never knew
>>
>>7459429

no, you are, criticising him for using an appropriate technique for his product. the pasta thing is such an armchair nitpick as well
>>
>>7459434
I have a working theory that Ramsay is secretly a honey badger that walks like a man.
>>
>>7459280
A little bit of both 2bh
>>
>>7459280
He is a great chef but most of his restaurants outside of his flagship are over hyped.
>>
>>7459444
Well since you don't have any real critique to counter mine besides "no, you're wrong neener neener" I think I can pretty easily dismiss you. With this being /ck/ and all, that's an even easier bet. The fact that some poor asshole is going to think you can skin perch the same way he skins salmon because he wasn't specific in a tutorial video speaks volumes about how much of his cock is up your ass.

He's undeniably a good restaurateur, and I'm sure his food is much better than anybody's here. He's got the money to buy the actual good ingredients they won't sell me at wal-mart.

I feel weird watching his stuff on youtube. He always wears tight shirts and I feel like it's all for women who want to feel safe or something.

he has a hot wife and 2 little girls man fug off.
>>
>>7459424
>implying that is a skill award and not a popularity award for the most hipster and trendy thing on the block.

Ramsay can market himself, that's for sure and that's all food critics care about. Top level cooking is more about theatre for snobs than it is about food.
>>
>>7459658
Nigga I don't care, I still think his youtube videos cater towards lonely, scared women.
>>
The amount of projecting in this thread
>yeah michelin stars mean nothing
>he makes restaurant food
>he's just a celebrity
>pfft, so what if he was trained by one of the most renowned and influential chefs in history, also the youngest one to receive 3 micheling stars (which are totally a meaningless award)? I'm that's no better than watching a few youtube videos!
He's:
>a chef
This would, at the barest minimum, put him above 80% the fags at this board
>a chef trained by a man widely agreed to be one of the best chefs in the world
This already puts him above most chefs, and the amount of people in this board who can claim to have similar training are, I wager, between the low double digits and 0
>a a chef with decades of experience trained by a man widely agreed to be one of the best chefs in the world
He's been cooking for longer than most 4chan users have been alive. Along with the previous factors, this puts him above all but the most insanely gifted younger chefs and definitely above 99% of this board and then some. Even if he wasn't trained by Marco Pierre White this would put him above most chefs, so go figure.

Used to be one of the best, now just a meme chef after realizing that American TV will pay 20x more for drama instead of actual cooking or compassion.

Can't blame him...he works SO much less and is paid SO much more for being a meme.

muh memechelin stars!
>>
>>7459306
You can tell just from watching the F Word. I've made a couple of dishes from the F-Word and they weren't anything special. I tweaked one until it was alright though so maybe I could show Mr. Ramsey how it's done.
>>
>>7459280
never worked with him, but I really liked his early TV career. Boiling Point was awesome.

Today he's pandering to the broad audience which is absolutly disgusting.
>>
>>7460035
>used to be one of the best
At what time? Source please. What restaurant was he cooking at, etc. Not Harvey's.

>he works SO much less and is paid SO much more for being a meme.
Do you really think that? He busts his ass making TV shows TIRELESSLY. It's a lot of travel time too, especially hard when you have a family.

I think he busts his ass as a celebrity chef. As a restauranteur, while being a celebrity, I think it is not easy.
I think he is a better businessman that chef. Not that he is a bad cook, just that he is very good at making himself popular, and using that to generate money.
>>
>>7460070
Being head chef of a 3 michelin star establishment means you reached the top of your profession so you can oficially be called "one of the best".
>>
>>7460076
Yes, I understand the concept of tires book.
It's beginning to mean less recently.
Especially with ppl opening numerous places with the intention of getting great tires.
It's just turned into a game.
>>
>>7459396
nah, the poster is just a total shit cook so sure he could not measure up to Ramsay.

Ramsay is a somewhat good chef, he's good at some stuff, bad at other stuff. But he's also a very good raging clown.

The best cook among raging clowns and the best raging clown among cooks.
>>
>>7459491

i don't even like gordon ramsay you tool. i'm the one who said he was 'competent and uninteresting' above. those are just the criticisms of some fat bitter fuck who can't find anything substantial to say. it's hilariously tenuous to say he's a bad chef because the way he effectively skinned a salmon would not be as effective on another fish. and things that have no real bearing on the final product, like oil in pasta water, are meaningless compared to the actually significant technical and design aspects of being a good chef. you just picked two things you would have done *differently* and played soggy biscuit over them.
>>
best of the best television meme chef
>>
hot pot it and bam, deadly dead
>>
>>7459280
He's almost as good as Emeril.
>>
>>7460179
he's teaching people you nonce. if you taught someone the wrong way to do something or misguided someone on purpose you'd deserve critique. if you did it AND you were a "respected" professional in your field you'd deserve to have your fingers broken. I'm glad we both share a dislike for the man but to defend him for doing something so glaringly retarded is... well, retarded. Sorry man. I agree with your assessment of him as a chef, but I find it amusing you would look at him in that light yet be willing to just gloss over things that he should be chided for. I'm frankly kind of ashamed of myself for even glorifying this with a response, but here's your damn (you).
>>
>>7460319
You seem like the kind of guy who is going to die all alone and bitter because nothing was ever good enough for your autistic tastes.
>>
>>7460319

look i'm only judging based on the anecdote you've given, but it sounds like he skinned a salmon without incident and you're saying it's the 'wrong' way because you use a different, more careful method. nothing wrong with you using a different method, nothing wrong with him using the quicker one. it just makes you sound like you're reaching really hard because you want to feel superior, which is a quite common behaviour amongst armchair experts.
>>
>>7459817
That's not what projecting means

It's not a synonym for "implying" you idiot
>>
>>7460038
I don't give a shit about Ramsay. I just like riling up kikes.
>>
>>7459280
Neither. He's not the best of the best (that was Benoit Violier before he died just recently) but he's more than just a meme. He's a showman first and foremost, but he does have a culinary career to back it up. He worked and studied under the famous Michel Roux and has multiple Michelin star restaurants, including a three star restaurant in London (ironically the first three star restaurant in London belonged to his master, a Frenchman!).

So I wouldn't say he's the best of the best, but definitely top tier.
>>
>>7459487
I ate at his Caesars Palace place a few weeks ago, and the quality was good to where it justified his face being plastered everywhere in Vegas. I'd have gladly let the double-decker Ramsay shuttle end that trip and my existence with at least a smile in return for the lamburger being one of the better burg experiences of my life

Even if it was some case where he slapped his name on an ancient casino segment where a committee was created to develop the perfect upscale bar food and cocktails, the dude has a solid grip on how to uphold a solid name and reputation

The downside is that whenever I catch anyone watching Food Network, or one of it's many 3rd-world-esqe clones, there's always some not-Ramsay show that has a sassy British asshole as the host, like that one about shitty bars, because the tone has been set that people like British assholes (or an asshole OR a Brit), so every network needs a Ramsay clone filling more than one slot

At the absolute best some of you probably work in third-rate local restaurants that receive semi-decent reviews from young hipsters on TripAdvisor.

He is a very good chef. I once saw him filleting this huge fish in under a minute. Leaving nothing but bare bones. I was awestruck.

People seem to think just because he a Michelin star chef that it means he's good at cooking everything. He's only good at French cooking. He tried to make a grilled cheese sandwich and it was burnt. He tried Southern BBQ and it was the stupidest shit I ever saw.

This thread cracks me up.

He knows more about food than 99 percent of us do. He is, in my opinion, a good chef, but not the very best, and certainly not my favourite/hero, but he does not deserve to be stripped of all credibility just because of his stupid TV-shows. That being said, the elite cooks in any culinarily interresting country would hand him his ass in a duel of almost any kind per the last 10 years.
>>
>>7459280
He's an English CHEF, of course the best he can be is "average".
>>
>>7459656

>>
He's a good chef, but he himself admitted his real success comes from his business management skills.

And I like him because he only plays up his aggressive side for the American audience. On his BBC shows, he's quite patient and nice unless you fuck up really bad.
>>
>>7459280
Good chef, but his reputation is mainly as a TV chef.

If you gauge chefs by how many Michelin Stars they have, Ramsay who currently has 9 stars, though impressive, is outshined by Rubuchon and Ducasse who each have over 20.
