Found a can of lentils in cupboard (picture related) I think they are the green or brown variety. Any ideas for how I should use them?
Put them in a chili

Well I do have the other ingredients, so that can definitely work.
Lentil dal with rice or naan.

Do you know any recipes using brown lentils? Alot of the recipes I have found use red lentils and/or use dry lentils.
I know I can substitute canned lentils in but I'd be wondering if I would have to change the cooking time and the amount of liquid as the lentils are pre-cooked.

Put them back in your time machine and send them back to the Great Depression.
I would say a soup, considering they're canned and they're gonna be fairly mushy.

I only bought one can of lentils before, they were way too mushy and disgusting, I had to throw them out.

Sprinkle it with vinaigrette

Looking quite good.

One more for the road
>open can
>pour out excess liquid
>squeeze in some ketchup
>eat directly out of the can at room temperature
I've never even seen canned lentils before, but I'd imagine they're way to soft to be cooked any further, so some kind of salad is the only real option.
Who the fuck buys canned lentils? I can understand kidney beans or some such thing, where it takes a while to soak and cook. But fucking lentils? It takes, max, 30 minutes from start to finish. In most cases, half that.

I've cooked brown lentils from raw, the soup ended up with almost a brown sandy texture at the bottom. What's up with this?
>>7441198
Did you rinse the lentils first to make sure there wasn't any dirt/sand in with them?
>>7441214
Yea, they were clean. Maybe they just got overcooked, idk. They didn't go mushy though.

What kind of texture did they have? I find that dried lentils, peas, and beans can have sort of a gritty texture if they aren't fully cooked yet.

Well they just seemed like they were cooked, split open a little etc. They were a little firm, but cooked all the way through. I never have this problem with split-red lentils, but I guess they just kind of fall apart.
Just make good old brown lentil soup, fakes. Don't forget to add tons of vinegar and serve with feta cheese.

OP here, that does look good.
whatever you do, make sure you chew them thoroughly to avoid fart hell

does chewing them well actually make you fart less? i never heard of this, and i have a hard time believing it. we make peas pudding out of split yellow peas, it is literally the consistency of mashed potatoes, and still makes you gassy.
