What is the best buffet in Vegas? I went to Carnival World a lot when I was a kid and I remember really liking it but is it worth it going all the way over to Rio for it? I'm a little concerned about pricing too, but most of them should be fine since I'm going at lunch.

any of the spots on the strip have good ones. they all have the same "action stations" and meat cutters. the bellagio tends to lean more towards seafood if that's your thing.

People that live in vegas get comps from others that work in the industry pretty often. I grew up on vegas buffets and comps. Last buffet I went to was at the Wynn. God tier and last time they had unlimited Bloody marys and mimosas included.
Yama Sushi has the best sushi buffet you can have.

If you want a good sushi buffet, avoid Tokyo sushi in the miracle mile shops. 30 bucks a person and it's complete shit the whole way through

Station casinos and the strip has had a really bad track record lately. Plus every one is a fucking mongoloid when it comes to serving thier plate at those places.

Both Luxor and M Resort are on Las Vegas Blvd. You would need to head south for about 10 miles. Your gonna pass Mandalay Bay and pass the South Point Casino. There'll be about a 2 mile strech of dirt but no matter what when you head south you'll end up at the Resort.
Not that far if you have transportation and it's on the same street so you won't have to worry about getting lost.

I think you mixed up luxor and M resort? The luxor is literally right next to Mandalay bay and Excalibur. It's a bit of a walk to the main area of the strip but there's the monorail which helps things.
The M resort on the other hand is like a 20 minute drive. Wouldn't recommend if you are planning on getting smashed at some club or whatever since taxis are expensive but otherwise it's pretty convenient if you just park in some other casino (Cosmopolitan is my favorite parking spot).

For value and taste, I recommend the Palace Station hotel and casino.
