My favorite white trash food. I'm Asian and I have to say it is the GOAT of white trash food.
Didn't grow up with it, and only tried it a couple of times, but it has to be one of the trashiest foods out there.
The fact that it uses garbage gas station chips as a main ingredient already makes it gag worthy.

Of course it's trashy. It's unhealthy as shit but it tastes so good. Plus you don't need actual fritos to make it. Fritos are essentially just corn chips. You can make your own corn chips, and your own chili, and buy cheese from a local deli. It doesn't have to be trashy. But the trashy version is easier to make.
Goes great with some spapeggy and meatballs, and apple brown betty.

I think it's just like a tailgate/camping kind of thing, what with the lack of a plate, using the bag as the bowl, etc.
Fritos as a crunchy texture thing in lieu of tortilla, is nothing new. It's probably decades old, long before the easy availability of taco shells and mexican sections even. Fritos were kind of a unique manufacturing thing iirc.
Anyway, no, I don't eat them. They're far too oversalted. If I'm at a party, and there's a bowl of some dip and that's the dipper, I might have ONE. It's corny tasting and delicious, but it dehyrates my tongue. Horrible stuff.
