How can they sell this for only 25 cents? is it the greatest value in food?
>>

>>
>>7424347
they run at a rather high loss. why do they continue to make ramen? because its owned by the us govt and is used to spread cancer. those little spice packets? full of cancer causing powder.
>>

>>
That's nothing, in Russia you can get something like that for 11 roubles.
>>
>>7424380

>>
>Flour, water & baking soda for noodles = Pennies.
>Salt, garlic powder, MSG, onion powder, chili powder = Less than a penny for how little they give you,
>16 odd bits of freeze dried vegetable matter = Nothing, it was scraps from another part of their food automation factory.
>>
I think pure butter is slightly better calories per dollar
>>
>>7424387
So...1/100th of a US penny?
>>
Lentils and potatoes and rice are cheaper and more filling, so no.
>>
>>7424347

no. it is twice as expensive as rice per calorie.

haven't done the analysis vs flour but it's probably the same
>>
>>7424411
how dumb are you? 11 roubles is 14 US cents.
>>
>>7424371

What about the noodles alone?

I throw away the packet.
>>
>>7424516
that is fine. thats how i eat my ramen.

Tried making my own ramen broth just now.

Fried some garlic in some coconut oil, then added 1.5 cups of chicken stock with a teaspoon of soy sauce. Cooked an egg as well.

Added organic ramen noodles which had been boiled and drained separately.

It doesn't really taste like anything.

Fuck...they sell waiwai 30 pack for $8. The hell you getting?

Well...
>>
>>7424618
I dunno what waiwai is, but at my local WinCo they sell individual packs of Nissin for like $0.14, and you can just grab a whole box of 32.

In truth, it's really like $4.50 not $4.
>>
>>7424347
Damn. They jacked up the price. I used to buy it for 10 cents a pack in Michigan.
>>
>top ramen
Pleb shit. Maruchan for life.
>>
>>7425751

this has actually been tested and Nissin(Top) is objectively the best of the cheap ramen you can buy and better than many of the premium brands.

the reason is the soup base is made with real chicken and spices and not chemicals.
>>
>>7424347
Actually, it's pretty close considering what they are. Typically food becomes more expensive the more processing that is used to treat it.

So, rice, root vegetables, beans are probably all cheaper per calorie, but they tend to require a lot more preparation.

So, you have a calorie dense meal packet that has a long shelf life and is quick and easy to prepare. The reason they can sell at this low a price is that the larger the manufacturing operation the cheaper it becomes to make to the point of ridiculousness.

Like for example, a bushel of wheat is 60 lbs of flour, 42 of pure refined white flour... and tends to cost around 5-8 dollars depending on market fluctuations
>>
What is "Oriental Flavor"? Does it really taste like a dude from indonesia
>>
>>7426399

The generic pan-asian combo of soy sauce, ginger, garlic, and sesame.
>>
Not really since by far the biggest majority of people don't need the highest calorie/dollar to not starve.
Not a country where 50% is overweight according to (flawed) BMI.

If you need vitamins (vitamin deficiency is much more common than being underweight) it's not really good value.
Even if it was good value for vitamins it would have too much salt.

Tested by who? People with shit palates, one would surmise :^)
>>
>>7426044
>and not chemicals
Then what is it made of?
Dark matter? Anti matter?

>rice, root vegetables, beans are probably all cheaper per calorie, but they tend to require a lot more preparation.
More idle time =/= more preparation.
>>
>>7426546

It's not just more idle time. Veggies often have to be peeled and cut up, whereas a lazy fatass only has to open the ramen packet and slap it in the microwave. Those precious seconds saved not peeling carrots can be applied to more important things, like shitposting.
>>
it's actually pretty expensive when you consider all of the nutrients you're not getting

I live in Michigan, and most large grocery stores typically charge $0.25 for individual packs of Top Ramen, and sell Maruchan individually for $0.20, as 12-packs for $2.15 ($0.18 per pack).

I share OP's wonder at how some things are as cheap as they are, though I share that wonder with all sorts of products, like 2 pounds of salt for $1 or 5 pounds of sugar for $2.50. It just seems like a ton of work to produce and purify those things, package them up, ship them to warehouses, deliver them to stores, and place them on shelves where I can buy them for that cheap. The business model sounds preposterous...if Morton's or Domino's were startups and presented that plan to me looking for venture capital, I'd tell them to fuck right off because it would never work. But that's just how the world functions, with tremendous cost benefits of mass production and distribution.
