So it turns out the handle on my frying pan is not oven safe,

So it turns out the handle on my frying pan is not oven safe, and now there's plastic all over. I managed to get some of it off but it's seriously stuck on there.

Would turning on the self-clean make things better or worse?

There may be chemical products that can clean melted plastic, I've been searching for them to no avail since my roommate melted a plastic bowl on the cooktop.
