Dinner at Sushi Neko in Oklahoma City
this place has a pretty decent reputation here in my hometown. it's part of a local restaurant group owned by a guy from here who apprenticed at the French Laundry way back in the day.
the dude has a japanese style steakhouse across the streat, a tapas bar next door and a fine dining flagship up the street. i've had good experiences at the all of them but this was my first time at the sushi joint.
seeing these improperly stored swords set my 'tism raging right away...
it was pretty busy but my buddy and i got a table right away
the decor was dated but in a charming way
cute menu

decent place settings
a cali roll topped with bay scallops, masago and spicy mayo
tuna nigiri, yellowtail nigiri and a philly roll

All in all I'm pretty content with the experience.
7.5/10, would go back
time for some dessert

does the Chef make Curry at this restaurant?
Having actually eaten at TFL this is not what i expected from a chef who apprenticed there... This looks like your very average run of the mill sushi joint

You have to remember where this place is. Just because you know fancy doesn't mean your clientele will want fancy. This place has to be middle of the road because the people eating there want accessible food that doesn't scare them by being too different. So they'll have some unique stuff but mostly standard fare done well as a result. Guy knows his location and his business, I'd say.
