Picked up a pretty nasty Hobart 1512 slicer for $250 the other day from a public surplus auction site. The old SOB has been around for 50+ years.

Aside from being well used it had a broken switch and needed all the old lube cleaned out to get running smoothly.

Need to sharpen the blade and will be good to go.

Why get a food slicer? Why not and because I can.

Get your life in order, OP

You'd be better off on /diy/, where you won't have effeminate never-work faggots like >>7420699 who thinks a broken fingernail is the end of the world.

One step closer to your hipster old timey deli.
>>
>>7420677
So, I have to ask.

If you like put a baby in it could you cut thin baby slices?
>>
>>7420877

Not OP but those slicers won't cut bone at all, so no.
>>
If you freeze meat you can slice it super thin.
Maybe thin enough that it would literally melt in the mouth, or in a pan at least.
>>
>>7420677
>Why get a food slicer? Why not and because I can.
Not a good enough reason for wasting $250 for something broken and needing repair.

So the whole feed chute/arm comes off in one piece?
Seems kind of a pita to clean, but I guess you won't be using it that often.
Could use some other view angles.

I posted pics of my 50's Hobart stand mixer. it's pretty boss. About three times the size of the modern kitchen aide but still a home edition, and yes, you do need to refresh the gearbox grease every so often.
>>
>>7421482
Yeah, but that's actually cool because a mixer is essential.

A slicer is just kind of worthless for most domestic kitchens.

You should feel bad, though. I think your threads helped inspire OP's poor purchasing decision.
>>
>>7421482
What's the model number?
It should tell you the quart size of the machine
(D30 is a 30 quart bowl).
>>
>>7421093
>broken and needing repair
The difference is this is a 50+ year old tool that's meant to be repaired and keep on ticking, versus some POS that's meant to be thrown out when something breaks.
It's a fucking power switch, not something overly complicated, difficult, or requiring special tools to fix. Don't be a pussy.
>>
>>7421492

You just don't have a big enough family, dude. A slicer is kind of great when you're feeding 20 people on a regular basis. Also great for bulk prep. My uncle does whole primals of beef and pork 2-3x a year, bones them out, wraps, slices and freezes, presto- instant cutlets. Also cures his own bacon and fresh sliced bacon vs store bacon is roughly like store bread vs fresh baked home made bread.
>>
>>7421532

idk, I'll post the spec plate if I'm not too drunk before I go to bed. not 30 q. 16 or 20? predates the K5
>>
>>7420677
You got ripped off; $250 is a sham for that POS. I work BOH so I know something about appliance pricing and that's a sack of shit for something that old AND unworking. $100 would have been good, $150 at most. You got ripped off, OP. Sorry mate. Especially since you can get one more than adequate for home use brand new for $250.

my dream would be to own a Donut Robot, but I doubt I'll ever be able to justify the $4,000 price tag for non-commercial use
>>
>>7421555
I was just letting you know that that's how you can tell the bowl size is all.
Post a pic anyways tho.

>>7421538
Seriously, it's like 10 minutes of work and less than $10 for a generic switch.
>>
>>7421538
Actually most kitchen tools today are using some old technology. If you don't mind mangling the shitty plastic you can fix it.
>>
>>7421569
Even with that price tag why do you want to make 400 doughnuts?
>>
>>7421575
>Actually most kitchen tools today are using some old technology.

This. All this stuff is made in China now, and the Chinese just bought the tooling to make the mechanical bits from the factory that closed down in the US. Then they just slap it in a shiny plastic case that the marketers back in the US designed.

>>
OP, I think it's great that you got it.

I also think 250 was a lot, but if you got the scratch and feel good about it, then hot dog.
>>
>>7421565
Yeah, me too. Been to a few auctions to buy used equipment as well. I would have paid ~$100, fixed it, and sold it for $200-$300.
But, live and learn. Now OP knows and could possibly make a few extra bucks buying old equipment, fixing, and selling.
>>
>>7421622
Don't bother. All the bullying has probably already inspired OP to put his throat through the slicer.

>mangling the shitty plastic
I'd rather buy the vintage appliance that's designed to come apart and made to be worked on. Stuff from the 70's is made of the same shitty plastic, but it's still made to be taken apart and serviced.

render down the babies first, make it like a head cheese, then use the slicer.

It's not the motor. He busted the retaining tabs because the two beaters are different and he put them in the wrong spots.

wow this thread went way off line with some of the posts - should have expected that from a bunch of fatherless juvenile titty suckers.

$7.95 for a new switch, $9.00 for a new cord and some cleaning and it's running just fine.

Hey at least I'm upcycling and saving the environment - lol, worst case can be melted down and made into some cheap Chinese kitchen equipment you can buy from Walmart and throw out when it breaks.

Thought about going full blown retard and completely restoring but I like the well used look.
