Chili edition
5 pounds of ground beef and a pound of ground turkey on deck
I make my chili with corn and beans.
Why the turkey?
cooking the beef in ~1.5 pound batches over medium heat

Why even bother adding a pound of turkey when it already has 5 pounds of beef? Seems rather pointless.
7 jalapenos and a poblano

>Why the turkey?
HUGE crowd to feed and limited budget. turkey is cheap.
removed the seeds and membranes from the jalapenos

>removed the seeds and membranes from the jalapenos
fucking coward
chopped the chiles and three small red onions
more beef cookin
>>7418548
Why the fuck is the beef in dog food casing?
I had some sausage and and more beef in the freezer, decided to go ahead and add them too
>>7418579
>I had some sausage
as usual OP
I discarded the absurd amount of gross grease that rendered out of the beef while it cooked, cooked the sausage and removed it, then cooked the turkey
the turkey rendered out a good deal of watery liquid that I used to partially deglaze the pan
5 tablespoons of ground ancho chile
garlic powder, cumin, red pepper flakes and black pepper
I forgot to buy oregano
>>7418578
that's plastic anon. it's this thing first world countries use to keep food from spoiling
sweating the onions and peppers
added the spices and two small cans of tomato paste
I let this all cook down for about 30 minutes on low heat. it smelled fucking awesome
moved the spice/tomato paste/aromatic veg mixture to the big pot with the meat and added a big ass can of crushed tomatoes
simmered it over low heat for 2.5 hours

starting to get ready for our guests
pico de gallo, sour cream, chopped onions, shredded colby jack cheese, and lettuce for each guest to garnish with as they like
I spent about $65 on all the ingredients and ended up with 37 servings with fritos and another 5 servings without fritos
We raised $43 in donations during the meeting so we're getting ever closer to our goal of having our Friday night meetings pay for themselves

Neat. I'd love Friday food nights like that with a big crowd.
Every bite of chili got consumed before I had a chance to eat lol
I ordered a pizza after I did the dishes. Bacon, banana peppers, mushrooms and onions.

Thanks for sharing, OP. And thanks for not posting 3-megabyte images.
I think you could use more onion than that if you're on a budget. Any special reason for going with red rather than white?
>>7418581
heh
Nice thread OP but honestly your images are too poor of quality maybe try turning the setting on your camera up they look very pixilated. You don't have to worry about catering to the one anon who is browsing an image board on his phone with a 2 gig shared family plan.

I just prefer the flavor and appearance of red onions. Yellow is usually the least expensive variety around here but only by like 20 cents/pound
There's three things you never want to see in chili
>beans
>meat
>distinguishable veggies
True chili is just a blend of tomato puree and, as the name implies, chilis. Anything else is a bastardization of form.
>>7419507
real chili doesnt have tomatoes. they're optional
>>7418578
this is the cheap factory grind. its subpar hamburger made from scraps that are ground to paste and formed into hamburger shapes.
>>7419507
>No meat
>>7419749
>formed into hamburger shapes
>>7418548
Nice thread, op. Chili is my favorite food and you make it pretty well.
>>7419507
REAL chili is only made in the country of Chile, S.A.
Everything else is bogus, beans or no beans.
This is an indisputable fact.

Do you have this saved to a document somewhere or do you just have it memorized?
