I'm gonna say this is the best cheap, fast coffee maker choice for the budget minded. It heats the water right from what I can tell. makes a 6-8 oz cup in less than 3 minutes, and cost less than 20$.
Come at me bro if you know a better deal.

I actually use my roommates keurig to heat water for my French press. It's really convenient because it's set to turn on 30 minutes before I wake up.

>$50-$100 on one of those gooseneck kettles in order to use the pour over correctly
Nah
Want a cheap coffee maker? Go to your local Salvation Army Store/Thrift Store/Pawn Shop. My two last coffee makers were from the thrift store, last one was $8 the one before I don't remember.

I had one french press and did not like it.
It would not press far enough down to squeeze the coffee and get the liquid out unless you used a lot of coffee, like 4 cups worth (2 oz).I have a pour over cone at home but I use pic related at work, I think the coffee taste better with pic related, and it's more convenient.

If you get a Mellita cone or a Chemex you don't really need a nice kettle to make a good cup. The kettle is only an issue with a v60 really or with the small version of a kalita wave. Plus the plastic Mellita cones are dirt cheap. You could get the cone plus filters for around $5.
