Is rum & coke the vodka & red bull of Generation X?
>>7410084
i.e. is it the collegeboy cocktail of yesteryear?
>>7410084
Yes.
As a solid Gen Xer, can confirm. Rum and coke was the fallback drink of pretty much everyone. Cheap, strong, and caffeinated. You may still find this drink haunting the homes of Gen Xers who never grew out of the nineties.

Forgot to mention, also Kamikazes.
>>7410084
I prefer whiskey and Coke desu
Try the mid 1800's faggot.

Cuba Libre predates Diet Coke by 80 years.
>>7410501
I thought it had to be with lime
>>7410084
No I think it's just a reasonable drink people drink because it's tasty
>>7410272

>>7410492
Lemmy drank jack. not rum
>>7410841
Nowadays kids all drink rum and coke because apparently rye isn't sophisticated enough

It was a Royal Navy thing, to start with.
Gin is very English, and tonic water was a medicine during the Empire.
The RN is also responsible for putting lime juice in mixed drinks, starting with Jamaican rum. Hence the name "Limeys."
>>7410901
Uhm, no. British Army when they were in India.
"Tonic" is called that because it was literally medicine. Tonic water contains Quinine, which is taken to prevent malaria which was a problem in India. It's bitter as fuck so they mixed it with gin to make it more palatable.
>>7410901
Limeys stems from limes being part of the rations for sailors in the Royal Navy as a means to prevent scurvy.
It was limes from the Caribbean as lemons from Europe they were previously using were put on embargo due to the numerous wars and tensions amongst colonial powers. It's the same reason rum became the booze ration for them as French brandy they had been giving them stopped with war with the French

>vodka & red bull
Why would anyone drink that shit? I never see this, I'm a millennial (born 1995) and if anything my buddies usually go for rum and coke if not straight beer and liquor whenever we have the occasional house party.
The only people drinking red bull, much less mixed with vodka, are 14 year olds trying to act kewl by drinking mommy's booze and getting fucked off the first sip.
Fucking disgusting.
>>7410287
Gin and tonic is the baby boomers choice, because they are nofunallowed assholes and their taste shows that.
>>7410841
Ontario here, I can confirm this. Although I personally prefer Crown Royal and Cola, and Hot Toddy when I'm sick. They also have this Apple Crown now which tastes not too bad.
Rum and vanilla coke is the best
>>7410084
Rum & Coke is timeless, pleb
>>7410084
>rum and coke with a lime wedge has been my favourite alcoholic beverage for the past 15 years
>suddenly the internet decides i'm uncool
What a terrible time to be alive
>>7412268
Cut-off for millennial is probably '84. It's a very wide gap, kids born after 9/11 should be considered their own generation.
>>7410084
What else is there?
Rum and coke is actually really good if you order it without the coke
Rum and coke is vile, have it with some ginger beer.
>>7410914
It containED Quinine. No tonic currently made contains quinine anymore.

I'm 30 and drink it when I've been drinking a lot and have no drugs or if I'm at a casino on the blackjack tables.
>>7410084
Nope. Vodka redbull is shit for highschool douchebags, as opposed to rum & coke.
Whiskey and coke was way more popular.
>>7412620
Tonic water still contains quinine, for the taste, but it's substantially reduced from historical, medicinal tonic water.
Wanna prove me wrong? Put some tonic water under a black light. If it doesn't light up, it doesn't have quinine.
Where does Fernet Branca & Coke fit in?
I know it's an Argentina thing, but I mean within Argentine society.
