IPA'S are the only good beer, anyone else who disagrees is a degenerate and lacks a superior palette.

Only drinking IPAs is as bad as never drinking IPAs.

I know OP is baiting, but damn.

Also, Stone's Base IPA offering is garbage, Lagunitas is decent, and I have no idea what the hell Sierra Nevada is doing.
>>
>>7403360
For IPAs you can't go wrong with Bell's.

>>7401632
Faggots who only drink one type of beer are hipster douchnozzles that are as bad as someone who only eats one kind of meat.

There is a whole world of unique flavors out there, why deny yourself anything?
>>
>beer
Why.
>>
>>7403394
Because eventually as you age, your palate changes. You start to enjoy more bitter and acidic flavors. This is why older people tend to take black coffee, and prefer dark chocolate. Beer is just one of the many things you start to enjoy.
>>

This
Two Hearted is good shit

Two hearted is one of the best ipas while still being easily accessible to new beer drinkers. Even my grandma likes it.
>>
>>7403406
Once a year, for about 3 weeks you can get their Hopslam. It's 18 dollars a 6 pack, but is just amazing. It's is complex as fuck. Nothing like Stone's seasonal offerings where they just add a shitload more hops and write up a biopic about how if you don't like it, you're a pussy.

To be fair, I always like it, but I don't think the average beer drinker would.

IPAs were a British invention. The addition of extra hops was used to mask the flavor of the higher gravity beer created to survive long voyages to India.

Plus half the time I tell people the IPA was invented by British sailors in order to mask the taste of how rancid their beer got on the journey to India they always say it's bullshit this stuff tastes good so that can't be it!

What is it with Americans and IPAs? My theory is that they all start with shitty light beers and once they turn full fedora, they only drink overly hoppy beer.

Why always those extremes? It's kinda like with New York pizza which is a sad representative of the food class due to its lack of pretty much everything in contrast to Chicago tomato and cheese pie which is just a strange combination of ready made dough, canned pizza sauce and a bag of "party cheese mix".

The webm is related to this topic as it depicts a popular American Youtube chef.

>>
>>7401632
double IPAs are a meme style for fedoras,
along with Porters, Memeperial Stouts, Barleywines, Pilsners and all types of Sour
>>
>>7403750
It's mostly that every microbrew that is starting out does an IPA as one of its first beers because you can't really fuck it up. When in doubt, add more hops. So every bar with a large selection has about 50 IPAs you can try.

Whereas if you're into stouts, you'll find maybe 5 stouts to try. Fewer micros produce decent stout. You also have to figure that 4chan has a disproportionate amount of younger people, and they are indeed trying to be edgy and cool with their beer choice. Claiming to love some overhopped mess makes them special.

As for the macrobrewed pilsners that make up the majority of beer consumption, you'll have to remember that it was mostly the result of Madison avenue advertising firms pushing light beer and cigarettes on us. The sales were massive, so all breweries pushed them. We are just now starting to come out of the dark times, and microbrews are leading the charge. As they become profitable, AB buys them up, and a better beer selection is becoming available on tap at pretty much every bar.
>>
>>7403760
The palate really won't change much from 30-60. You'll love the same stuff. The next big change is in your 40's when the great tasting stuff starts to give you heartburn, and you start eating more and more bland food. Eventually you'll be the 65 year old grandpa at the local diner or american buffet.
>>
>>7403769
>The next big change is in your 40's when the great tasting stuff starts to give you heartburn

R-right anon, in my 40s
G-good tip thanks
>>
>>7401632
They are great, but what you have there wouldn't be good. IPA's degrade in quality QUICKLY after being made. Buy local and fresh and keep refrigerated.

Pic related is a good fresh IPA if you live in/near portland maine. If I lived in california and got a friend to send this to me it likely wouldn't be good because it would go through a bunch of temperature fluctuations and be unfridgerated for a few days.

To sum things up

>meme ipa = ipas that are past their prime and bought hipsters and frat boys trying to be cool
>good ipa = ipas that are still fresh and delicious and bought by true beer connoisseurs
>>
>>7403773
Yeah. I'm just turning 40 now, and my favorite food is Lamb Vindaloo. I now have to make a decision before eating it, or hot wings as to whether or not I have adequate time in my schedule the next day for impromptu burning shits, and if I want to deal with a hemorrhoid flare up.

Usually the answer is still yes, but i keep preparation H and and antacids close at hand. In a decade, I think I'll have to give up half of the meals I love.
>>
>>7403777
Checked.
> IPA's degrade in quality QUICKLY after being made.

The entire reason IPAs exist was to make a longer lasting beer.
>>

don't even try because you can't

also it isn't america's fault that we not only have the best hops but also the money to buy them. I have a pound of citra hops, and half a pound of el dorado in my freezer right now waiting for my next brew

>>

Traditionally they take longer to spoil, but that doesn't mean their flavor is good

Beer made in the 1700s and 1800s was made for different reasons. Flavor wasn't the main factor, but now it is. Recipe wise they're similar, but reasons for drinking and flavor are entirely different

All of those beers are either from the 1800s early 1900s or in the case of barley wine is an ancient beverage.

So for Americans, the thing is, most of us grow up experiencing the most awful, shitty beers, like bud light. That's why a lot of Americans think that beer tastes like piss. So when we try IPA we're like "wow, this is GOOD!". The flavor just feels like an explosion compared to the shit we had earlier.

Stuff like lagers, pilners are great, but they aren't a big enough jump from the early stuff like budweiser. In my case I returned to them after knowing that I really did like beer after all.

Americunt here. I actually started with Belgian Ales mostly. Not a big fan of IPAs at all. Never liked em much.

Now I drink imperial stouts like 75% of the time. Everything else is pretty anything that catches my interest, ranging from wee-heavies, gose's, barleywines, to trippels. If it's supposedly good, I'll try it.

That said, I still know I number of people who are IPA crazed. But I also know others who are into more variety.
