What is your go to unpretentious beer? I usually opt for new belgium beers but pic related is my go to at random bars when I can't be bothered to find a menu. Sometimes I go for becks sapphire as well.

New Belgium is the height of pretentiousness in beer. I used to live about 4 miles away from their Ft. Collins brewery, and I witnessed the culture there. As well as reading whatever tripe they put on the beer labels.

I am white, and I don't dislike my people, but those fucks over there are the ones you see with handlebar mustaches riding highly customized bicycles on a date.

I object to the premise of this thread because beer is unpretentious by definition, unlike whine.

Right now I'm working through the last of my vintage 2010 stash of Nemesis. You see that ABV number? It means it's a high quality beer. With every sip I remind myself that at least I'm not living in the South. It's 2016, we have the craft beer now! The most important thing is that you identify a thing that's worse than you, and you fixate on it. That way stuck up Europeans with their obsolete Stella can't make you feel bad.

Reminder that Budweiser is a european beer and we can't be held responsible.

If someone scoffs at anything that isn't a big name brand yes that's definitely pleb, but people that strictly adhere to that archetype are very few and far between. Even the people I grew up with that are almost a strawman of the trailer trash stereotype still enjoy a beer out of their comfort zone given the chance. If they like it, "hey that's pretty good!" if they don't, "wtf is this hippie shit?" it's just beer to them.

The issue with the beer snob is that they're much more likely to fit their stereotype. They'll refuse to even try anything new if it was made by a large company but in the same breath will gladly pick up a sixer of something they've never heard of, because if it's a micro brewery then it automatically merits a tasting. They're the people on facebook that will see a pic of friends celebrating [insert occasion] and make a comment like, "I thought that was a special occasion, that was the best beer you could get? :^)" This guy I know was St. Louis for work, posting pics of restaurants etc. and a friend commented that he should do the AB brewery tour. the conversation went like this:

>while you're there you should take the tour of of the brewery

>lol no thanks, I like my beer with flavor

>lol just saying it's actually pretty impressive, it's neat to see an operation on that scale

>nah I wouldn't want the smell of that piss to permeate my skin, it could ruin my palate for life.

>well ok, enjoy your trip man.

When did calling beer "piss" catch on? It's like the go to insult for people who think they're too good to not drink craft micro-brews.

Sure, it's not the best beer in the world but I'll happily drink a Canadian or a Coors if its presented to me. There's always that one psycho who pipes up "How can you drink that piss!"

I'm assuming beer doesn't actually taste like piss, so why is that used? Can they not articulate what they don't like about the beer? Is it just a status thing?

If you ever get a shot at it, Indeed out of the twin cities makes a "Mexican" double honey lager which is fucking delicious. Not an every day after work beer because it's like 8.5/9%, but still great.

German immigrants and never having gone through prohibition? I don't know. Many that are imported to the US seem pretty good.
However, I can't stand Bohemia Lager despite how it's popularly considered; it has some aftertaste to which I never grow accustomed.
Don't forget that Tecate exists--Mexico also makes some horse piss.

Amstel, stella artois, heineken, budweiser and corona are the beers that I enjoy and I buy when i'm drinking alone. If i'm buying it to a party or to drink with friends i usually buy beers that are made here at my country which are cheaper, like Skol, Itaipaiva and Brahma.

>>
>>7398863
I prefer Guinness from glass, it's a consistent dark beer, and there aren't 20+ different variations like Sam Adams. The other thing I don't like about Sam Adams is that their actually good shit is only seasonal
I also tried Blue Moon one time based on a recommendation from a friend. It was ok
Aside from that, Angry Orchard is my go to. Cider is truely the nectar of the gods
>>
>>7409910
>i donno why
that would be because you are a degenerate junkie, the brand of beer really doesn't have a lot to do with it.
>>
>>7409857
They also seal better than bottles and eliminates all possibility of the beer being light struck. And these days canning doesn't impart a metallic flavor to the beer so it's not just being used for cheap beer anymore.
>>
>>7398863

here in frankfurt we usually drink "binding". it´s nothing special but okayish. get´s the job done if you catch my drift.

There are a lot of small time, non pretentious breweries everywhere in the state. Just have to look.

Corona is an interesting case in marketing. It consistently ranks among the worst Mexican beers in blind taste tests, yet it also has by far the highest sales worldwide. Goes to show the power of marketing.
