Seasoning. Meat....
Or just, you know, shitposting.
I cook mine in a pressure cooker with tomato paste and of course water. Then I season with some msg based powder, garlic powder, chili powder, and Italian seasoning.

Lentil soup dawg
When I was a kid, my Salvadorian baby-sitter made them into a garlic and spinach soup. Extremely delicious especially with buttered toast.
I made a halfway decent vegetarian chili using lentils and split peas. Sure, some fag is going to say it wasn't chili, but he's a fag, almost as much as you are, OP, but on some level he's right - it's not really the same, but it was definitely good.

Sometimes small rocks get picked up when harvesting things like beans and lentils. They're usually sifted out when they get processed but sometimes small rocks that are the same size/shape as the beans can get through and get packaged along with the finished product.
That's why you should always sift through dry beans and lentils before you cook them.

I don't think I'm ready for that level of responsibility.
My OCD will kick in and I'll spend an hour checking each lentil.
This thread seemed like a good pointer for cooking the lentils someone left me when they moved away too. Fuck.
cook them in stock

All you need to do is dump them into a large bowl or on a cookie sheet or something like that and shove them around for a minute or two looking for anything that doesn't look normal.
I can count on one hand all the times I've actually found a rock or stick in a bag of beans in my entire life. Especially lately since they use xrays and lasers or whatever shit like that to sorts them electronically at the processing plant.

I thought lentils didn't have rocks too. Then I bit down on one. Now i have to carefully check my lentils before cooking, on a white plate. Do this with beans as well. As an extra precaution I chew softly. But it's all worth it.

Cracked a tooth on a rock in my lentils. I'm extremely paranoid now.
