No sandwich is a much wider thing than burger
Sandwich = Two pieces of bread with something in-between. You can be more specific but that's the base definition.
Hamburger = ground(minced) beef served between bread, traditionally a white bun, but can between other types of bread.
Turkey Burger = Ground turkey served....yadda yadda
Veggie burger = Black beans or tofu or whatever the fuck ground up and formed into a patty and served.....
Chicken Burger = Ground chicken....
Notice a pattern? Burger implies grinding or mincing of some kind in the Hamburg style
A piece of non-ground chicken between bread is a chicken sandwich. See KFC, Chik-Fil-A, etc
When just used as "Burger" a hamburger is implied because it was the original Burger. Otherwise you have to specify. See your example about pb&j and the word sandwich.
