Which is the superior Hot Dog maker in the United States of America?
>>
Nathan's are best.
>>
>>7366309
they have Bar-S Franks for 88 cents this week, but I'm not sure if they're gonna make me ill

anyone have experience with them?
>>
>>7366309
Not really a fan of all beef.

I prefer oscar mayer
>>
The hotdogs at Costco are a great deal. IIRC, they're $1.50, all-beef (hebrew national I think) and come with a drink.

All "good" hotdogs I see at my supermarket are outrageously priced, like in the range of premium sausages and kielbasa. I guess people just like hotdogs.
>>
>>7366309
Those organic chicken ones from Costco
>>
>>7366331
Don't eat 88 cent hotdogs.

Hebrew National and Ballpark are my favorite brands. I've never had Nathans
>>
>>7366331
Bar-S is garbage, but it has its merits. Particularly, its good for cutting up and eating with a can of baked beans or something.

The stuff you should really avoid is the fake .99 cent american cheese thats made out of straight oil with nothing dairy in it whatsoever.
>>
>>7366339
Just bought a pack of them from costco, all beef Kirkland brand. Same ones they use in the food court, delicious
>>
Do anchovies count as hot dogs?
>>
>>7366345
>but it has its merits. Particularly, its good for cutting up and eating with a can of baked beans or something.
This. I use them for this exact purpose, as well as cut up in mac n cheese or fried rice. I usually get something nicer for actual hot dogs.

Shit, I don't think I've ever seen those around. Or maybe some places do use them, and just don't plaster EISENBERG BEEF on their storefront the way Vienna places do.

What kind of places have them? I might wanna try.

If you can find a place that has their 1/2 lb dogs. Pay the price, worth every cent.

Not even jewish, but

HEBREW NATIONAL
(all beef)

They are by far the best hot dog I've ever had.

I only have hot dogs like once or twice a year though. Not sure why anyone would make those at home on a regular basis. They aren't cheap per pound unless you get the pork lips no-label brand, in which case you're basically buying ramen.

Boars head, Nathans, vienna

They are the Hot Dogs they sell at Wrigley Field. The Cubs hot dogs are Eisenberg Dogs. Or, they were the last few years I went.

I didn't realize I don't make hot dogs any more until this thread. I'll get them at a game or something I guess.

Boars Head natural casings were my favorite. Pretty pricey though if I remember correctly. Any other brands make a tasty natural casings dog that isn't so expensive?

Hebrew Nationals, for me.

Please tell me if I am wrong. Hotdogs just seem gross, but taste so good.

Johnsonville brats. I gave up on hotdogs mostly. I eat a coney or two a few times per month though. It's pretty much an obligation where I live.
>>
>>7368892
natural selection is a meaningless garbage term. dont fall for any of these terms, if the shit is legit you will be able to go to their website or online or whatever and learn about what kind of meat they actually put into it.

brands know that 90% of customers are too retarded to think which is why you see stuff like gluten free stamped on orange juice and corn chips.

Learn about sausage science, talk to your dietition, (never a nutritionist, a dietitian.)

as for actual health, not all hot dogs are made equal and there are some that come in low fat but its very rare. fat is a requisite to make a decent sausage sausagey as it helps link up the meat into a cross stiched matrix of fat and protien. its what seperates a hamburger from a sausage and it's why hot dogs are normally 60-70% fat over protien.

If you want to eat healthy you'd be better off avoiding them or at least putting healthier toppings on them like onions, tomatos, and mustard.
>>
>>7368999
They are kind of hard to find.

Try Google to see if any places near you sell them.
>>
>>7368892
and by onions i mean raw onions.

basically your piority for hot dog sausages should for health be the presence of fat, the presence of nitrates, the presence of hormones and how the animals where kept and fed, the other additives like coloring.

in that exact order.
Fat is bad for you in large quantities which sausages are very good at giving to you. Nitrates are great meat preservatives but demonstrable increase your rate of cancer slightly (about as true as smoking does, which means very, but not at the frequence that smoking would, it's much less devistating but it's still bad for you)

Most meats are going to have nitrates but if you find uncured and unpreserved dogs without them theyre a good find, but don't think you can get away with leaving them in the fridge as long. nitrates are preservatives for a reason.

then the conditions of the animal are important, as hormones and stuff can remain in the meat.

finally additives like food coloring should be avoided. sugar is also a common additive in hot dogs which isn't to great for you but can be avoided. compare natural hot dogs without "additives" buzz word style dogs by ingredient lists. normally it will explain in detail whats happening there, and whether the natural brand loses anything you'd give a fuck about. Natural brands have a tendancy to use the same ingredients just in a different source. like nitrates found naturally instead of synthesized. talk to your dietitian.

not even natural casing and you're saying nothing compares?
>>

>>
>>7369007
ya, I agree. To be honest, I think the only time I bought hot dogs this year were for my camping trips. I always bring hotdogs with white bread on camping trips.

White bread works for grilled cheese, and also for the buns.....

I try and keep it simple when I camp. Hashbrowns and eggs in the morning, grilled cheese for lunch, hotdogs and corn on cob for dinner. Usually a can or 2 of chilli is always available if someone wants to mix it up.

Why am I talking about camping now?
>>
>>7369041
meh, I would gag at that menu selection. not that I dont love me some camping style skillet grease concoctions. but if you don't make with the onions and tomatos it's all basic eater garbage anyway. too many onions, hash browns, peppers if you got em, and tomatos are what go in my hash, normally fried in the grease of whatever we cooked last. drop some eggs and a lid and it's golden.

Hot dogs I have to have rolls of some kind. regular bread is for basic eaters unless you dress your dog like a sandwich, as other toppings like onion and tomato and sourkrout wont fit on a squished piece of bread around a dog.

I think they don't have much market penetration outside of new england but yes they are the best dogs. Kayem's footlong natural casings from the deli counter are manna from heaven.
