A god tier fruit, but sometimes they taste mouth numbingly bitter for no reason at all. Why?

tannins make them astringent before they are ripe

there are two types, sweet and astringent. some times the plants cross pollinate and a plant thats sweet will produce astringent and vise versa

Yup, and it's even more noticeable with the hachiya type.
I do prefer fuyu persimmons, though. I buy tons of it when it's in season, like 20 pounds at a time.
>tfw persimmons are like a mouthful of cum.

My mother doesn't count!
Are these still around? I can't find them anywhere anymore.
>>7366840
Sadly, no. They went extinct in 2009 due to a virulent strain of faggotry.
>>7366840
They're an autumn/early winter fruit. Out of season now, but look for them next September.

If they are astringent, they are unripe.
But, some varieties aren't astringent and are edible when unripe.
