What's the best way to punish a restaurant if you didn't enjoy the food?
Most of the times I just leave without paying.
If that's not an option (ie. too many waitresses) I steal small stuff like the salt/pepper shakers and pay the bill without leaving a tip.
Now if I'm really angry I leave a mess in the bathroom (piss on the sink, clog the toilet with toilet paper, leave the shit stained paper sticking on the wall, etc).

I usually phone them up with fake orders, fake bookings, just typical fake shit, as often as possible. Get them to move tables about, get them to cook meals beforehand, get them to over-buy stock, then never show up. Employers (in most states in the US) are allowed to pay them less than minimum wage specifically because it's expected that they'll be getting tips, so really you're just screwing the waitress/waiter out of their pay.

The bathrooms are usually maintained by a commercial cleaning company, so other than putting an out of order sign on the door this won't affect the restaurant much.
let the server know or ask to speak with the manager. if the food is bad, theyll probably want to know. theyll also probably give you a free drink/food/discount if you let them know. Not paying is a dick move that fucks over people who are already poorly paid and are not the ones responsible for your bad food.
Also, if you just don't like the food, maybe the problem is your palette and not the restaurant.

If it's a small place, you call up the manager, describe what was wrong, refuse any compensation, and genuinely try to help him out while making him realize how poor the food was.
If it's a chain, just don't eat there again.
I'm a very sympathetic person, so I usually just don't go back if there was something I didn't like about the experience. I'm not demanding and I will never get pissy if service is slow or if food is imperfect. I worked in a couple restaurants in high school and understand the demands of the work.
But rude, snippy, and condescending treatment from staff I will not abide, so to take revenge I have done the following:

The best revenge came when some stupid cunt of a waitress came to my bank (I'm a loan officer) for a home loan. She was a fairly qualified borrower but I modded the risk parameters for her loan so she had to take an adjustable rate. Since she's a stupid service worker, she never bothered to try another lender and took it. Once Yellin kicked up the FFR last year, her rate jumped almost two points and she defaulted within three months. Her credit rating plummeted 100 points and we also siezed the contents of her savings account (some $3000) as well as the house. I doubt she will ever in her life own a home or get a car loan with a rate under 15 points.
There's a lesson here. It pays to be polite because you never really know with whom you're fucking.

Minimum wage has no exemptions. The employer is by law required to make sure the waiter makes minimum wage, even if they have to cover the difference between tips and the state minimum wage.
