i know, i know, IPAs gtfo, but i just tried deschutes fresh squeezed, & i would actually recommend it. super good, none of that shit beer + shit hops = mouth full of expensive grass taste. oregon can hold its own.

Woody Creek was fantastic, but is sadly no longer with us. RIP

Op failed to mention they dont sell New Glarus anywhere outside of wisconsin and its actually illegal for bars to import it outside of the state.
There was a bar in Minnesota a while back that got shut down for selling spotted cow in their bar.

Decent, affordable brown ale.

>>7361743
This has become the pretty standard Ale in Southern California. It's pretty average but you can find it at almost any place that sells beer. It's pretty mild and you can knock down a ton of them before getting shit faced.

This is the beer that made me realize the IPA fad needed to stop because all they're doing is trying to out hops each other. It has one note, and that note is hops, and it bangs on that single piano key like a bored house cat. And you realize they all taste like that, just to varying degrees.
>>7361836

>>7362267
Completely wrong in every single possible way.
The amount of flavor variation between different hops and combinations of hops is absolutely astounding. Try some Stone Enjoy By if you want to get an inklin of an idea how absolutely stupid you are.
Sure, there is the generic pine, grapefruit, resin hop flavors, but the craft scene has moved past just making bitter hop bombs, and on to experimenting with hops and showcasing different hop profiles.
You can get floral, tropical fruit, stone fruit, citrus fruit, berry fruit, mint, melon, white wine/grape flavor, and more. You can use well established, widely grown hops, you can use limited availability experimental hops that don't even have names yet, you can use hops from different regions of the world or different hemispheres, and you can even use wild hops.
You are just out of touch and behind the times. The focus/trend has shifted.
IPAs aren't even the trendy thing at the moment in the first place! Barrel aged beers took the spotlight some years ago and sour beers are arguably up there too.
>>7362278
Not the anon that your responding to but I will say IPAs are not liked by most because many breweries do the overpowering bitter style of hops. There are IPAs that hit it home but you can't call people stupid when about like 80% of them are garbage.
>>7362281
>>7362282
Sorry, I have never experienced what you are talking about. All of the places I get beer have an excellent and varied selection.
And obviously not every single IPA is amazing, the same thing applies to stouts, porters, pilsners, whatever the fuck, that doesn't invalidate any of my points.
Go to better stores, stop buying shelf IPAs. Problem solved. There are so many great IPAs constantly being released I can barely even drink them all.
>>7362287
>Shelf IPAs
I was a few months back at a beer fest where one of the local breweries showed off a new IPA.
"We think it has a robust flavor!" Is what that dumb cunt said to me. Shit was bitter piss. You may have had some luck with finding IPAs but your points are absolutely invalid if most people like myself and other anons are experiencing shitty IPAs. I've had good IPAs but literally can only count on one hand the times I have.
>>7359446
Bell's Hopslam is great, but it has very limited availability. Just a few weeks a year, and this year only in cans or on tap in select establishments because they are refurbishing their bottling plant.
It's an IPA with the right balance of hops, and citrus and honey. It's amazing. And at 18.99 a 6 pack, it had better be.
I look forward to it all year.
>>7361672

I'm speaking about this one specific beer that tastes like chewing on raw hops and the dozens others that were in the same boat. Yes there are plenty of good ones but you said yourself:
>the craft scene has moved past just making bitter hop bombs
we all know that for a time the fashion was "MORE HOPS! MORE HOPS!!!" It was a dick measuring contest for micro breweries and a speed-tipping contest for hipsters to see who could pretend to like the most bitter swill.
>>7361622

You're all right. For a long time breweries were packing their IPAs with grassy, piney hops like Chinook and Simcoe and as many American C hops as they could fit in. Pine piss. Not nice.
That's changed somewhat with the increased availability of Aussie and NZ varieties which generally don't have the pungent piney unpleasantness that a lot of the American hops do, they lean more towards the fruity end of the scale. You're seeing a lot of beers showcasing the qualities of one or few hops now. Maybe the price of hops has something to do with it too.

>>7365388
No, but I'll probably get some next time. It sucks that alcohol:price isn't 1:1 though, it's why I usually go for higher ABV beers. A good example is how Ballast Point beers that are 10% are, say, 15 bucks a six pack. Their beers that are 4.5% are 12 bucks. It's stupid.
>>7365398
Oh yeah I forgot to add that this is the first time I've seen Six Point (that I know of, at least). Hopefully they become a mainstay with my local distributor (Richmond, Virginia). After loving Resin so much I'm eager to try High-Res.

I decided to get these three in a variety pack called "Ales of the Revolution". I'm a little ashamed to admit that I was really drawn in by the packaging and advertising. I'm really interesting in this period of American history and it had a neat ring of authenticity, apparently Washington, Jefferson and Franklin liked their beers in particular this way. Of course, I am aware this could be all nonsense but I Just had to try it. And I like it so far. I don't think I've had many porters so it's definitely a new taste, kind of heavy but good.
Also: I got blackout drunk last weekend. Is it safe to drink again? Sorry if that's a dumb question but it was like only the 3rd time I blacked out and it's kind of an unnerving feeling.
>>7370286
That's cool. Yards is local for me too but I have not tried much of their beer. Blacking out is bad, that's for sure. If you are very new to drinking then it may be from inexperience but if it's happening repeatedly then unfortunately you may be an alcoholic.

I live in Finland and the selection of American beers is priced roughly at the double of what you would pay domestically. For example speakeasy's small bottles cost 4e and the big ones 11.5e.
This is why I would appreciate any input beyond ratebeer since their scoring system is a bit skewed due to the people who write reviews or score the beers.

5 years on, and I could still taste the maple flavor.
I had an opportunity to try this at a party. As it was being split among a group of people, I only got a ~2-4 oz pour. I didn't know the extent of its rarity or the reverence it has in the beer community until I read up on it afterward. While I wouldn't recommend paying $200+ a bottle or whatever the going price is now, it was a tasty, enjoyable beer.

protip: organic stuff only needs to be 95% organic in order to get certified
it's not possible to grow hops on a commercial scale without lacing them in pesticides
so yeah, keep on enjoying your "organic" produce if it makes you feel better

really didnt like this taste
God damn Italians need to brew their own beers. Got a sahti (traditional Finnish beer style) which was brewed in Italy for some reason and it tasted nothing like it should. Italian beer (bar Baladin) is for faggots.

>it's not possible to grow hops on a commercial scale without lacing them in pesticides
