Pigs have no sweat glands so they wallow in mud to keep cool. If you keep a pig as a pet you use a small pool of water or keep them in the A/C. If you were forced to stay in a filthy pen you would do the same. Pigs are also very intelligent animals and give awesome cuddles.
Pigs only do that if it is the most convenient means to stay cool. If granted a cool environment, pigs are actually incredibly tidy animals.
The whole hooved foot thing is incredibly Jew/Muslim honestly. A more humanitarian argument is that pigs are amongst the more intelligent animals that we eat and evolutionary some of the least divergent.
