Op is probably from Chicago.
I'm from NYC, I never think about pizza but every time I'm in the cab from ORD the driver asks me if I like Chicago style pizza. Of course, I do, and they act relieved and surprised, but why does Chicago have this chip on its shoulder about our pizza? It's like kiwis getting butthurt over the existence of Aussies.

If you feel another city is superior, you're free to move there. Short of that, grow a pair and don't seek validation like this, it's embarrassing.

I visited a friend in the East Village for two weeks and ate this so much, and one time I got sick, probably from eating too much not from the pizza itself. I had it every time I came across it because they have several locations. Pretty good deal with fairly good but obviously not high-quality pizza; I've certainly never seen it anywhere in flyover country.

Well, contrary to what some people believe, a geographical location does not grant any food magical qualities. If you buy a slice from the wrong/right place, it will be terrible/amazing as expected.

That having been said, I prefer NY style pizza. When I look at >>7318407
I'm sure it's tasty, but I think of it as tomato pie.

Anyway, I'd recommend the Full Moon Pizzeria if you're in the Bronx's Little Italy, OP. I love their pizza. For general Italian, Dominick's has zero atmosphere but amazing food.

>>
>>7318407
Dat is a tomato cake.
>>
>>7318779
Why is the one on the bottom all burnt?
>>
>>7318947

More of a literal "pie" than a pie in the sense of a pizza pie.

When you look at, say, Italian style pizza, it's not nearly as thick with tomato as Chicago style and much closer to NY style.

Italian style is great, BTW, assuming the cheese is of proper quality. I prefer it to NY style if it's done properly.
>>
>>7318573
Why would you go to Costco and eat anything other than a hot dog? I mean, I'm just surprised you're in a position to have an opinion on it at all, rather than that you think it's better than NY.

You buy food on reputation and not actual quality?
>>
>>7319384
Not that guy, but what does that even mean? What else would you go on, if you've never tasted or handled the food before and didn't watch them prepare it in the kitchen personally? >>
>>7319378
Damn that looks pretty good desu senpai
>>
>>7319403
I meant reputation as if in "fast food" labels. Stereotypes.

If the pizza is supposed to be great quality, why wouldnt you dish out a couple extra bucks

Would you feel more justified buying Wal Mart brand caviar?
>>
>>7319416
>I meant reputation as if in "fast food" labels. Stereotypes.
Still not really getting it. Maybe I'm just disconnected, I don't know many people who eat fast food and I'm not exposed to the advertising.
>Would you feel more justified buying Wal Mart brand caviar?
Not really sure, it's not like they have a sturgeon farm or do they? I don't have Wal Mart here, and I've only been inside a Wal Mart once in my life, maybe 15 years ago, just to look around and see what it was like.
>>
>>7318397

Most slice joints in NYC in 2016 make dogshit. They're run by Middle Easterners trying to make a buck. All the "Ray's Famous" places are all trash-tier. And the truth is that basically all of the first pizzarias, that were once elite like Lombardi's or Patsy's, are all mediocre tourist traps now. There are a few remaining true old-school slic places, as well as some excellent early 2000s Neo-Neapolutam revival places, but that's it.

Bonus: real NY slices always come on a cheap paper plate.
>>
>>7319433
>Bonus: real NY slices always come on a cheap paper plate.
John's and Grimaldi's would like to have a word with you
>>
>>7319425
>Still not really getting it

Then explain the purpose of bringing up fast food to begin with

You have no idea what the quality could actually be like and are going by a completely arbitrary label. Theoretically anything can be fast food for one. And I don't see it being associated with "fast food" means it wouldn't be worth dishing out for if it was actually of high quality

>its not like they have a sturgeon farm

That's completely besides the point
>>
>>7319443
I didn't bring it up, I don't agree with what the guy said. But at least his argument was understandable even though it was wrong. You seem to be in this strange universe where words have meanings other than what they actually have in real life. But I have lost my curiosity as it seems you're just one of those people who thinks fast food is something worth arguing about and defending. This is of no interest to me. Sorry to waste your time.
>>
>>7319452
>where words have meanings other than what they actually have in real life

I didn't say that with a literal meaning. I clearly explained that

You seem to have reading comprehension issues and are obviously frustrated at being corrected yourself which explains your obvious passive-aggressiveness

You should settle down and actually be mature about an otherwise completely benevolent discussion. Perhaps open your mind a little bit instead of just being so blind. Probably explains the reading difficulties

But now you're just being immature and running away. Unsurprising

You have a lot of growing to do, boy.

There is actually this pizza place in Manhattan that is known for selling $1 slices of pizza. It is very popular among drunks/stoners who are on their way to or coming back from various concerts and whatnot in the area. I have been there a number of times, although never even close to sober.

As far as I could tell their pizza was quite good, but I have never even been sober enough to remember what the name of the place even is.
>>
>>7319486
> this pizza place in Manhattan
There are dozens of them, but that's not what he was saying. He's saying you're not getting anything good for $1. Which is true. It's fucking terrible. I've seen the delivery trucks, their bulk bagged "cheese" looked pretty fucking scary. But you should know that, you've eaten there. How can you even call it food?
>I have never even been sober enough to remember what the name of the place even is.

Anecdotal evidence from a Chicagoan:
Nobody actually gives a shit about deep dish, it's pure jingoism
Chicago stuffed pizza (without the stupid cornmeal crust) is the tops, and Chicago style thin crust is way overlooked. Try Aurelio's.
Spent one day in NYC, got a slice of Ben's on MacDougal to recreate the shit from Louie. Tasted like gas station pizza. "NY slices" are bullshit. Got a pie at John's of Bleecker Street, probably one of the best pizzas I've ever had.
Best pizza I ever had hands-down was Grimaldi's location in Las Vegas. Saying that makes me feel like flyover trash but it was leagues beyond anything I'd ever had and I can't lie. Quality of ingredients sold it.
>>
>>7318418
Then you got duped. Near Times Square is where all of the tourist traps are.

Best to head to any of the other boroughs for a better slice.
>>
>>7318555
And here we have a Chicagoan expressing their incoherent rage.

I'm with >>7318553, I don't see why Chicago people have it out for New Yorkers, and our pizza. I'll always prefer NY style as it's my home state, but Chicago pizza is breddy damn gud. Maybe you should calm down.

lol

let me guess, there's a cute little place in totenville that has the most bestest slice?
>>
>>7319491
That sounds very familiar. Not the kind of place I would go to 99% of the time, but whenever I am on the way back from a show/concert with my friends and we are fucked up and running low on cash, we normally wind up at one, and it definitely hits the spot.

>>
>>7319538
Queens is great for cheap eats, I'm not arguing with that. If you're broke and have an unlimited metrocard, Jackson Heights and Flushing are like a paradise for poorfags.

But for a great slice? No, you don't need to leave the city. There are certainly options in the outer boroughs, but there is no NEED to leave the city.
>>
>>7319524
Wow, all this projection in one post! Where do i start?

Actually, anon, it doesn't have anything to do with the other boroughs being poorer. There are many areas outside of Manhattan that are ludicrously priced. Simply put, Times Square IS a giant tourist trap. That's a fact. There's plenty of places in Manhattan that do pizza just fine too, I should mention.

But stick to your maymays and leave the discussion to people who know what they're talking about and don't post out of pure frustration.

God, I love flushing. So many fantastic and cheap asian places to eat. I used to work right next to Flushing, and there was a Korean and Chinese place on every block, with the occasional Taiwanese or Japanese place. It was fantastic.

There were also a good amount of Jewish and Italian delis, which I don't understand how people live without.

This is why tourists are idiots. You could have asked for recommendations here or even went to yelp to look up a decent place to go eat pizza. You could have gotten a decent slice or an entire pie for a decent price. Hell, you are even near Hell's Kitchen.

I just don't get tourists, especially American ones. You are NYC, why in the fuck would you go to McDonald's to eat?!

I live in Harlem, and everytime I get on the bus to go over to costco I always get a slice or two at Patsy's. Slices there are still 1.75 and it is the most comfy feeling to sit on a stoop and eat a slice while watching all the outer borough people struggle with their oversized costco purchases

m8, I don't live in NY anymore because I left the state. Manhattan was always my least favorite borough anyway - too crowded and noisy in many parts.

People moving into Bedford-Stuyvesant now are stupid. It's a shit neighborhood, but people like you will still pay 2500$/month for a fuckin shoebox 'cause its in Brooklyn.

chicago doesn't have it out for new yorkers.

new yorkers are just a bunch of backpedalling pussies. for decades they've been going on and on about New York style. That if you go to the NYC you NEED to try a slice. that you fold it to eat it. etc etc.

now you have corner shops out-shitting each other, making the pizza shittier and shittier to drive the prices down to a dollar, sacrificing essentially everything that made the pizza respectable. now that you new yorkers see how shit you've become, now you want to victimize yourselves.

now that chicago's TWO styles of pizza get critical acclaim, now you want to say chicago has a chip on their shoulder. nope. it's just plain better overall.

Chicago Deep Dish/Stuffed > Chicago Thin > New York Style

Chicago thin doesn't have shit on NYC style, I'm afraid.

Deep dish is the best pizza from Chicago tbqh - no equivalent in NY for sure. But I consider that and NYC style so different it's like they're almost different foods.

I got pic related a few months ago, and my main complaints were that it was greasy as fuck, way over seasoned with dry Italian seasonings, and for some reason they put the toppings under the cheese, so on the first bite the cheese layer just slides right off in one piece.

Also fuck squares; pizza is meant to be in triangles, and I feel like I'm being treated like I'm back in elementary school when someone gives me a pizza cut into squares.

There is literally pizza on every corner, the real problem is finding a place you actually like. Any time someone hypes up a local pizza joint you can be pretty sure its just garbage. Most of the time they just order in the same wholesale ingredients.

>>
>>7318397
You got meme'd friend, but for a different reason.

I'm from NYC and I know the pizza here is NOT some magical tasting godsend, but it's still great for other reasons. What's wonderful about it is that it's a $1 slice f feel-good food. Don't get anything more expensive than this unless you're getting actual, quality pizza, which would be more than the $3 you paid. A $1 slice is also normally bigger than your pic, so it's basically just a "get fat for cheap" food that really hits the spot when that's what you're looking for, not a culinary marvel that tastes like it fell from heaven.

tldr just get a dollar slice and don't expect high quality, expect "I have the munchies and this is the perfect food/price ratio deal I can get" quality
>>
It's the water that makes NYC pizza so good. I tried California pizza from several different places like Domino's, Costco, Pizza Hut, California Pizza Kitchen, and it just paled in comparison so I imported a jug of authentic NYC water and made my own NYC pizza at my house and it was SO much better. You all need to try it for yourselves, it's juicy and beautiful.
