FUUUUUUUUCK.

My mom would buy me these all the time when I lived in Guam.

Could not remember the name, thank you so much OP.

How is supposed to do anything, though, it's just a sweet drink.
>>
>>7283585
its a probiotic yogurt drink
>>
>>7283588
Yeah, I'm reading that now. Also seeing that it's sold here in the States. I seriously thought I'd never see it again.
>>
>>7283585
It's a "probiotic" drink, so it's supposed to help your digestive system. But it has more sugar than a can of Coca Cola.
>>
>>7283591
Asian markets should have them.
>>
>>7283591
its at 99 ranch if you have one of those near you, i also see it a lot at the smaller chinese and japanese markets i have, but im also spoiled in the bay area in terms of specialty asian markets
>>
>>7283564
If you have indigestion or are currently taking antibiotics than probiotics may be particularly helpful. Other than that you will see very minimal changes.
>>
>>7283599
But the ones we have in Asian markets are usually knock offs of the original, I mostly drank the Korean ones buying them at Ranch 99. Though I wonder if they just pure shit and if they have any of that probiotic shit.
>>
>>7283599
you mean ranch 99 you fucking casual

I'm a Kindergarten teacher in Hong Kong and we recently took a field trip to the Yakult factory. The cartoon they showed at the beginning of the trip convinced me to start drinking the stuff, though I stick to the low-sugar one because the full sugar one has a shitload of sugar and the low-sugar tastes plenty sweet.

I like the taste and if they help my guts then all the better. The small size also helps make sure I don't drink too much sugary drink in one sitting.

idgaf what its technically named

its commonly, colloquially, called ranch 99

>12 divided by 2.7 equals 4.44 repeating
>11 grams times 4.44 repeating equals 48.88 repeating
>almost 10g sugar more per equal volume
>alternatively, yakult has 4.074 (repeating) grams of sugar per ounce, versus 3.25 grams of sugar per ounce with coke

I actually just went to Kroger to buy stuff for dinner and it was right in the yoghurt section.

And I live in a suburb of Houston. According to wiki, it's popular in Mexico, which is probably why my mom gave it to me as a kid.

Never thought to look there.
>>
>>7283599
Mexican califag here. As >>7284061 mentioned its popular with mexicans. Kids always had these in their lunches at school. Also being popular you can get them at literally any grocery store here in socal.
>>
Mexicalifag. Just checked my fridge. Thanks mom
>>
I went to a Yakult factory for school once. The lads did not behave desu
>>
>>7283564
It works for me, I have GERD OP and I don't get attacks any more since I started drinking it daily.
>>
>>7284573
Probiotics didn't work for me and my reflux. Lucky it worked for you; I have to spend $20 on pills to control mine. Did help me shit better though.
>>
>>7283564
Am I the only guy in this thread who puts the Yakult in the freezer overnight, takes it out the next morning, and eat the frozen content with a spoon like a ghetto slushie?
>>
>>7284584
Have you considered prebiotics instead?

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prebiotic_%28nutrition%29

Probiotic is a non-word word, AKA marketing word in this case.

>i would have to eat 120g split between raw onion/garlic/asparagus every day
Good Christ that sounds difficult. I say that because the rest of that stuff isn't readily available so I'd have to go to the farmer's market or something to get it, and I can't get any of it at work besides onion, so that sucks.

This doesn't sound terribly viable as a dietary pathway for me, even if it would work.
>>
>>7283585
Hello fellow guamfag. Miss the beaches and local food yet?
>>
>>7283564
any kind of fermented food that hasn't been heated can help keep the bacteria in your digestive system healthy. yogurt, unpasteurized sauerkraut or other pickled vegetables, unpasteurized beers, etc.
>>
>>7283930
A bag of sugar also has more sugar if you're talking contents by volume, which >>7283593 never mentioned.

Now, take all that sugar and go pound it straight up your ass.
>>
Sure it can but you've got to drink the stuff regularly for a fair amount of time before it really does anything at all.
I heard an interesting story once from one of my lecturers about a woman who came into the hospital he used to work in having tried to treat the yeast in her bagina using yakult applied directly. It did not work very well.

HK street food can be considered exotic by Western standards, yet isn't so alien that it'll send you running to the bathroom. It's pretty tasty too if you aren't squeamish about which part of the pig you're consuming. Pic related, pigs ear and large intestine on skewers.

If you're less adventurous try something like "lor mai gai", a giant glutinous rice ball stuffed with chicken and mushrooms.

>Sure it can but you've got to drink the stuff regularly for a fair amount of time before it really does anything at all.

Im pretty sure their biggest customer is middle aged Japanese women who have this stuff delivered daily to their work by the Yakult girl
>>
Brazilians drink this stuff like its a religion

>>7283564

The lactobacilli in the drink will help about as part of your gut microflora. But I mostly drink it for the taste though I think it's really nice.
>>
>>7285047
Actually no. You can google search scientific journal articles using the term.
>>
>>7283930

>>7283866
it was a free trip to hk with michelin dinners included - why would i deprive myself of that
>>
>>7283564
It's good for keeping your vaginal flora in check after being on antibiotics. Even just drinking them helps (no need to rub yoghurt drinks on your cooch).
>>
>>7283593
>le sugar is bad mejmej

Fat people please go.
>>
No idea.

Last time I was on antibiotics I bought some of these afterward in the hopes that it would help restore my intestinal flora more quickly.
>>
I don't know or care but it sure as fuck tastes good.

It's meme.

I grew up drinking that shit in Japan.

It doesn't do shit.
>>
>>7292024
Are you Korean?

Also, I don't know why I laughed.
>>
The only time probiotics are genuinely useful is when you're taking antibiotics, but even then it's much easier (and cheaper) to have them in capsule form.

Besides that it's mostly marketing and most people should have a healthy amount of good bacteria in their stomachs anyways.
