Someone mentioned Lynchburg Lemonade in another thread I remember them as being really good but I haven't had one years and searching around for the recipe, I see there are a few variants.

Also; What's the best brand of sour mix to make Lynchburg Lemonades (and other mixed drinks)?

Because the Long Island Ice Tea above lists tequila while this recipe doesn't, also the quantities are different?

officially the IBA, but if you ask my friends I am the authority on mixed drinks and if you ask me it's one bartender in particular that owns a bar near home, so anything goes
prepare your cocktails the way you like them better
all recipes I've ever seen tho are pretty much like
>1 part white rum
>1 part vodka
>1 part gin
>1 part tequila
>1 part triple sec
>1 part sour mix
>splash of cola (which means as much as you like)
pour everything in a shaker, shake with ice, pour in whatever big glass filled with ice cubes, garnish with lemon wedge

I like ramos gin fizzes, dark n stormy's and fruity shit I happen to mix using whatever juice I have at the time

The only mixed drinks I make are Manhattans and Gin&Tonics because I don't have the ingredients for most others. It's easy to have gin, tonic, rye whiskey, vermouth, limes, cherries, and bitters around though.

I love Manhattans though so I've been trying to perfect my ideal Manhattan before branching out and making lots of different drinks. I'm afraid that if I buy lots of ingredients then they'll go bad long before I use them too.

>>
>>7283704
Add a bottle of dry vermouth to what you have, you can start playing around with different combinations of sweet/dry in your Manhattan. Dry vermouth isnt very expensive.

Alternativley, you could add a bottle of maraschino liqueur, and you have the ingredients for a Martinez, which is a cross between a Manhattan and a Martini.

A bottle of Rose's lime juice cordial, which is very cheap, and you can make a Gimlet. Or a bottle of Campari and you can make a Negroni.

None of that will go off. Although getting by on G and T and Manhattans isnt a bad way to live.

Thanks for the tips. I've never heard of a Martinez but I will make one as soon as I can. The vermouths I have now are Carpano Antica (fucking amazing) and Martini's dry (boring) because I've tried them dry or "perfect". Carpano was a real shock to me and it lived up to the reputation that it has. It has a strong vanilla flavor and is generally complex compared to Stock or Martini vermouths. It is even drinkable on its own.

You're right that I need to check out Negronis too. I have heard about them but never bought the Campari to make some.
>>
>>7283797
>Carpano Antica
Just looked it up, its seriously expensive for a vermouth. £30 per litre. Im using Dolin, which costs me £14 per 750ml bottle. Its pretty good stuff. Much better than the cheap varieties.

I only had a Negroni once, and it wasnt what I expected. I guess because of the colour I expected it to be fruity when actually it was quite dry. At the time it wasnt what I wanted so i didnt really enjoy it. But its something id certainly try again.

Im not sure why the Martinez isnt more well known. I only recently discovered it, and Amazon did the maraschino liqueur on their black friday sale so I got a bottle. Its an amazing cocktail. If you like Manhattan and gin, then its a winner.
>>
>>7283836
Yeah, Carpano is expensive. I was at the liquor store shopping for vermouth and a knowledgeable old man was there who couldn't find Carpano. He spoke to the employees there and left with nothing instead of buying something else so I decided I had to at least try it. Cost me 30 euros worth of US dollars but it's a big bottle and was worth it since the flavor was something I've never had before. It is not as sweet as an average sweet vermouth and is apparently is the closest thing to the original vermouth recipe that you can buy.

Can someone provide some tips for making the best Negroni?

I mixed one up with beefeater and martini rosso, as I was just giving it a shot. When I tried it at a party it was fantastic, but this one didn't taste so good.

Does the drink benefit strongly from the use of a more botanical heavy gin, or would using a better vermouth improve it?

your ingredients look good, make sure the vermouth isn't old though (it goes bad in about a week). viciously shake ingredients then add a large orange peel and make sure you squeeze the oil out of it on to of the drink. if it still tastes bad then I'd try adding a little bit of simple syrup and remixing it or adding oj.

Back when I was 22-23, the bar around the corner from my house had some kind promotion for $1.50 Long Island Ice Teas that came in a big class (16oz?) with the recipe printed on the side, that you could buy for $5. I had my girlfriend at the time smuggle one out for me in her purse, but I dropped it in the sink about a month later and busted it.

"There is no standard size for a single shot, except in Utah, where a shot is defined at 1.5 fl. oz.[16] Elsewhere in the U.S., the standard size is generally considered to be 1.25–1.5 fl. oz.[17][18]"

But I'm saying 5 parts does not equal 5 shots.
That recipe calls for 6 and a half parts of ingredients, not shots. It just means proportions. For any fluid volume of that cocktail, 2/13 of that will be vodka, minus the cola and icemelt.

I was going to start my own thread but figured I'd just ask here since it is kinda related.
Anyway, I helped a workmate and his mum with a few things when they were moving house and they found these in the back of the cupboard (they were the ex-husbands so had been there for 12+ years). As neither of them drink they brought them into work and gave them to me tonight.
Was just wondering if anyone had tried them?
I read a review of the gin and apparently it's pretty rough stuff so I'm assuming the vodka is much the same.
>>
>>7285141
There's something wrong with you. Why do you keep insisting that each part has to equate to a full ounce? There's something wrong with you.

Each part could be a millilitre for all it matters. That's how ratios work.

Wiki says;

Lillet is still available, but had the quinine (the 'Kina' of the title) removed in 1986.[5] During the mid 20th century Lillet and Kina Lillet were noted as being different products,[6] and therefore nowadays Cocchi Americano is often used as a substitute to recreate the original recipe.[7]

It isn't used anywhere. It's a cocktail guide modeled after engineering diagrams. The formatting makes it a chore to understand, and what I can understand is not very promising.

That's the problem with infographics: Containing lots of information is not the same thing as being informative, especially when that information is incomplete, misleading, or just plain wrong (which it almost always is)
>>
>>7294043
Its a bitter herbal liquor with menthol in it.

I would recommend trying some Fernet Branca Menta, which is a sweeter and more menthol-y version of it first.

Definitely not a drink for everyone.

I normally take shots of it (39.5%), but ive also just added splashes to moscow mules and its tasty.
>>
>>7294080
I don't have any trouble extracting information from it. Very quick and easy to read. The only problem is that they should be in alphabetical order so you can quickly locate the cocktail you're looking for.
