Duchesse

I'm about to run out to the corner and pick up some beer for the games that are on tonight. Beer and tacos!

NFL - Packers v Cardinals
NCAA hockey - MSU v Minnesota
NHL - Leafs v Bruins
NBA - Pistons v. Warriors
NHL - Oilers v Flames

It's going to be a loud drunken night for us here.
>>
I prefer Duchesse, but it's going to ruin your palate for the Rodenbach, so choose wisely.
>>
Well, how was it?
>>
>>7275390
Of those two I've only had the Duchesse, so I'd go with the other one.

I'm drinking this Saison Rue. It has lots of carbonation and is tasty. There is a peppery taste but it's not as dry as I expected. The bottle is from May 2015 so maybe the brettanomyces could have had more impact if I waited. I have a bottle of Boulevard's Saison-Brett too that I'll compare this to another time.

>>7275390
What does Duchesse taste like? Is it as sour as people say? I always see it in stores and I want to try it.

It tastes like shit. Honestly, like a crappy unidentifiable fruit soda that may have possibly spoiled. But maybe I just got a terrible bottle. Have never bought it since.

The grapefruit IPA is not too much grapefruit or anything? I saw the Victory Grapefruit Agave IPA and the 20th anniversary Experimental IPA at the store the other day and went with the 20th Anniversary IPA. The 20th one is very good. Tastes very different than Hop Devil and it's made with Pilsner malts so it's very clear and it tasted like an IPA with a different kind of pilsner finish to me.

how much beer do you buy when you stop at your local store?
>>
>>7276221
depends how much interesting/new stuff they have. If nothing new then probably just a 6 pack, if a bunch of cool new stuff, then a lot
>>
>>7276208
Because the midwest actually balances their apas/ipas which helps bring out more flavor than just bitter

It all depends on what they have. I usually won't spend more than 20$ though and like to try different things so it's typically bombers and some single bottles with a 6-pack to drink when I'm looking for something reliable.

My most recent exception was buying a 6-pack and 3 bottles of Victory Java Cask (pricey at 17$) because I figured it might be my only chance to buy them.
>>
>>7276241
also citra and citra-esqu hops
>>
>>7276198
I probably don't have enough but I'll just buy a bottle of Dutchesse and figure it out. I love Weyerbacher's Tarte Nouveau session sour and Otra Vez but the sour enthusiasts think those are for bitches so it might be too much pucker. I've also got my eye on the bottles of Lindeman's Cuvee Rene I've seen around.

what's fun about making beer from a kit? all you're doing is mixing a package into water and waiting for it to ferment

you can get started in all grain brewing for very little expense, just do your boil in a large stockpot.
grain costs next to nothing, hops are relatively inexpensive too

>>7276407
Its a good way to start out and learn the techniques at last

The grapefruit is definitely present, but not overpowering. It lends itself nicely to the natural citrus of the hops. IMO Ballast Points grapefruit IPA, while still delicious, is a bit overpowering with the grapefruit. Victory is such a solid brewery. I very rarely buy anything that isn't local, but I know Victory is going to come through with something delicious. This was no exception. Now I will drink this.
>>
>>7276453
I really want to get some too. haven't seen it anywhere but when I do it'll be bought instantly.
>>
>>7276496
Cool. Victory IS local for me so it'll be even easier for me to try the grapefruit IPA sooner or later.

Went out with friends and had four beers last night.

Funky Buddha's Nib Smuggler, which I'd had before, but never off tap. Absolutely incredible draft, pretty close to the best thing I've ever had to drink.

Terrapni's Wake n' Bake Coffee Oatmeal Imperial Stout was good, but really not an easy drink. Bold coffee flavor, strong alcohol, and a bit of bitterness (not a bad way). Not quite perfection, but definitely enjoyable.

Coppertail's Unholy Trippel was disappointing for a style I just about always like. They actually warned me right in the description, about how they made it a hoppy twist on a trippel. That's exactly what it was, almost tasted more like a good IPA like Jai Alai, I'm just not an IPA person.

Last beer was Left Hand's Milk Stout, unfortunately not on Nitro. Still real, real good. Head lasted through the entire glass.

Terrapin's Tiramisu-Hoo was supposed to be on tap, but they'd sold out a couple nights before. I was sad.

Has anyone ever had Death by Coconut? I was thinking of getting some because I like coconut a lot.
>>
>>7279628
I had it for the first time on Friday and it blew my mind. The coconut taste was very strong but the beer is not too thick or intense. It goes well with food and is drinkable. I had it on tap but have never found the cans for sale. If I saw them now I'd immediately buy some.

>>7279663

Its £4-£5. Dont know if youre in UK, but to give a comparison, Westmalle Dubbel and Chimay Blue is around £2. Sierra Nevada about £1.50. So its fairly expensive, but not a killer. It was a gift though.

>>7279688
I havent tried it. Not seen it in the supermarket and I;d have to make a special effort to go to a beer shop, which I never really do since I havent got through all the supermarket has to offer.

Trappist beers are generally excellent though. I have tried quite a few and not been let down on any of them.
>>
>>7279706
How is Sierra Nevada 1.50? So you don't get fucked on imports in the U.K. but here in the U.S. we do?

sweet

In general, non-macros are sold as individual bottles and most shops have some kind of promotion. My local supermarket currently has 4 for £6, which includes SN, otherwise it would be £1.80. Doesnt include SN Torpedo though, which sells for £2 per 350ml bottle.

>>7279766
A 12 pack of SN is like 12.99 here in the states brah. I assume you just live in a highly taxed state

This stuff was interesting. Very distinct gin flavor to it.
>>
>>7280995
Shoot. I saw it for sale a week ago and passed on it but when I went back it sold out. I want some gin beer.
>>
>>7280910
I have not. I was planning on having Tiramisu-Hoo, which is Moo-Hoo, but with coffee and vanilla.
>>
>>7279089
What's up Florida bro

Grab yourself a Tiramisu-Hoo if you ever find it, really excellent. Mostly because it sits at about 8 abv instead of normal Moo-Hoo's 5.5 if I remember correctly. It definitely benefits from the higher gravity. There's Cinnamon Bun Wake N Bake this year too in the same series. The flavor is better on Tiramisu, but I like the base beer a lot more with WnB.

It seems like you like lighter bodied porters and stouts. Usually Nib Smuggler is too light for me despite having great flavor. I was lucky enough to have a Nib Slip (imperial version of Nib Smuggler) at Maple Bacon Coffee Porter day at Funky Buddha last weekend and it was phenomenal. Kona Coffee Snowed In was even better. Great day for beer.

Unholy has gone through some changes lately. I don't know if it's an error or a purposely changed recipe, but it does read as belgian IPA right now. It used to register more as a hoppy tripel, but something has been off in keg at least for the past month or so. Still delicious, but not true to style.
>>
>>7276241
This. After being sick of all the shit-tier IPAs I'd been drinking, I was only drinking lagers for a few months. Tonight I just had a Founder's Azacca -- hell yes midwest.

Well you really missed out, the juniper was really prominent, but still balanced nicely with the beer.

Went to Tröegs today for some fresh Nugget Nectar. Very different this year, not as hoppy. Much more balanced hops/malt.
