Why is Eastern Mediterranean food so amazing?
Dolmades, falafel, halloumi, hummous, saganaki, spanakopita, ful medames, tabouleh, plus lots of aubergine and courgette based dishes. So, so good.
I've had your pic related.
It's literally salty sushi.
Felafels are good though.

That's some off my favorite food as well. It makes sense that it would be excellent, because that part of the world has been a crossroads for wealth and culture for a very long time. The east and west met right there. Greek, Turkish and Palestinian (including Lebanese) are all god tier.
>>7257839
I'd imagine they vary from country to country. I've only really had the Greek ones, which are usually very lemon-y. So good.
>>7257834
hummus is the best thing on earth. even supplies you with all of the essential amino acids you can only get from food. its magic, in my opinion. pure sorcery.

>Why is Eastern Mediterranean food so amazing?
Good, but not top tier.
Falafel is horrible food.
>>7257839

>>7257943
You are wrong. My guess is you've never had a good one.
>>7257951
Dolmades are not Eastern Mediterranean food, anon.
>>7257878
In Romania they're made with pork and wrapped in pickled cabbage leaves and are called sarmale. Don't know if that counts as Eastern Mediterranean but it's pretty godly stuff.
Why is Spanish food so far behind? It's all just boring potato and tomato based dishes.

I think because of the sheer amount of time it has had to build off of itself, as well as being in the midst of so many trading routes.
The same goes for Indian and Italian food imo.
>>7257968
That hasn't been my experience.
>>7257979
A miracle of the universe.
>>7257953
Yes, you are right.
Just eating a baklava now. Godlike.

Greek and Turkish dishes are pretty indistinguishable thanks to the Ottoman Empire occupying Greece for so long (and the Byzantine empire occupying Anatolia before that)
Btw Moussaka with bechemel sauce best Mediterranean food.

You are correct in that the two cuisines have lots of overlap because their histories overlap. But there are some differences. Greeks eat pork, Turks mostly do not. Turks favor spices more heavily than Greeks, who use herbs more frequently. Also Greeks cook with wine, Turks generally do not.
>be Cypriot
>island colonized by Greeks, Phoenicians, Turks, and Venetians
>develop cuisine from all over the Eastern Mediterranean, Southeastern Europe, and Greater Middle East
Feels good man.

You forgot the British.
>>7258365
He probably knows.
But in the context of cuisine, I don't think it's relevant, though.
>>7258365
In the context of cuisine, you blokes fall below mention.

These are fucking GOD-TIER but they're a bitch to make. Next time I might just bake it in the oven like a pie instead of shaping them into eggs.
