How do you go about eating canned sardines? Is it even advisable to do such a thing?
Just get some crackers or a crusty bread,
Treat them the way you would an aggressive cheese or cured meat

They are great for you. I just pull them out with my fingers and eat them straight. Kinda messy but fuck it.
>>7226506
>but fuck it
kek
Like everyone else has said, and most everyone else is likely to say, just put them on saltines with your condiment of choice; they're a great way to try different hot sauces.
While they're nutritious and can be quite tasty, don't pretend that they're anything more than cheap, smelly canned fish.
I usually eat them when drinking.

Mustard

Sardines are delicious. Sprinkle them in the lightest dusting of flour and sauté quickly. Eat with toast or pasta and some cherry tomatoes.
>>7226493
On hot buttered toast with lots of black pepper
>>7226562
I'll have to try this for breakfast tomorrow.

If you have roommates or a girlfriend I'd warn them before trying the fisherman's eggs people like to recommend.
Your house will smell "fishy" (in the way that turns people off of fish in general) for at least 24 hours, and there will be no ambiguity about who's responsible.
texas pete and a fork
maybe saltine crackers.
>>7226493
you can chop them up and mix em in with some pasta. use the oil in the can as a base for your sauce and saute some onions/garlic/chili
Different brands of sardines vary quite a lot, don't buy the cheapest ones on the shelf.
Brunswick sardines are pretty decent and available most places I think.
Sardines are a fish and have protein.
U BETTA SACK UP BITCHOSS
SLICE OPEN SURSTROMMING CANSS
this thread made me go make some sardines on toast.
>>7226493
Look up the sardine avocado sandwich. Alton Brown's recipe maybe? It is a fairly unoffensive way to eat them to see if you can handle it. They are great for you and cheap, so yeah you should if you like them.
Highly recommend King Oscar. The difference between food and bad sardines is huge.
And don't do it if you have roommates, unless they're some kind of orientals

If you are going for it straight out of the can, pay the premium.
If you are making soup, or frying/roasting them , you can get the bulk stuff. I've seen them as cheap as 10 us cents an ounce.
Only freeze leftovers if yo intent to cook them as well.

looks comfy
Just eat them straight.
If you're a pussy who hates the taste of eggs and fish, don't force yourself (apparently that's common).
Brunswick sardines from natural Canadian waters. King Oscar sardines farmed in Vietnam.
fisherman's eggs
although last time I made it the eggs got fucked up and there was a LOT of oil (even though I drained the eggs) anyone know what I did wrong?
>>7228382
drain the sardines before putting them in with the eggs.
>>7226763
Thanks /fit/
>>7228403
fucks sake I said drain the eggs but I meant that I'd drained the sardines
I like mustard sardines I mush them up in the tin then put them in a sandwich.
This is the best tasting canned Sardine
i get the king oscar Mediterranean sardines and just fry them up real quick and have them on toast or with eggs.
>>7228422
So sardines are good.
But what do you do with anchovies? Those little bastards are saltier than me when I get upset.
Loaded with salsa and a reasonable amount of cheese, on top of some crusty bread slices. Top with black pepper and oregano. Bake away.
>>7228586
pizza
>>7226529
Deli or Spicy mustard probably.
>>7228586
I ate sardines for the first time last night. I made a Mediterranean pasta with garlic, shallots, capers, sardines, lemon and a little bit of white wine. was pretty tasty
I like taking canned sardines in tomato sauce, mixing it up with salt pepper lemon juice and thinly sliced red onion, and eating that with saltines.
>>7226763
Thanks you based /fit/.
>>7228617
Good, I am glad that you liked them.
Mash and mix with finely chopped tomato, red onion, garlic and parsley. Add a little wine vinegar or lemon juice and season. Put on slices of baguette, put under grill/broiler for a couple of minutes, eat.
Toasted bread, avocado, sardines, lemon juice
or
Buttery round crackers (eg Ritz), sardines, hot sauce or spicy brown mustard. Gulden's is the best spicy brown mustard at most stores.
>>7229132
What herbs are on top?
>>7229139
I'd like to think cilantro, but I can smell parsley just looking at that image.
how do you go about cooking frozen vegetables without them tasting so god damn watery afterwards???
>>7229178
Cook them in a dry pan and season to taste.
Wait, isn't this a sardine thread?
>>7229178
Throw sardines at them.
>>7226529
A tiny potato.
>>7226493
So I found a few cans of sardines in my cabnet. The expiration date says 12/15/15.
I'm guessing they're still safe to eat, but what do you fags think?.
What's the difference between sardines and anchovies? Is one just saltier and fishier than the other?
I'm not that into fish so I don't have much experience with the pair.
>>7230643
They're fine.
Are canned sardines deboned or are the bones so tiny and fragile that you don't really notice biting through them?
>>7230689
They're either skinless/boneless or not, and will say on most packages.
If you're worried about not liking the bones (they're just a little crunch) buy double layered; they're smaller and usually better quality.
>>7230643
Just yesterday I ate some that "expired" in 2012.
fite me
I love canned sardines. I try to keep a lot stocked with my emergency rations, but I always end up eating them all. I need to stop doing that. I could end up getting stuck eating rice and beans in the event of an apocalypse.
the spines gross me out
