Does anyone else here ape the traditions of others in order to give much-needed meaning to their empty and otherwise meaningless lives? Today I made black eyed peas because I think some people make that for New Years.
Who else made black eyed peas today? Did I do it right? I used ham hocks, star anise, clove, and shallot. I dumped it over some rough chopped mixed greens and I'm having it with a cheap cotes de provence red.
This was my first year doing black eyed peas for the new year, and I have no clue why it's a thing.
I was told to go get the frozen ham bones and bits, leftover from Christmas and last Easter, and make a nice broth out of them.
When I came back for dinner black eyed peas and some greens had been added. Shitty pumpkin and beer cornbread on the side.
