I hate this so much.
They used to have all kinds of whole-bean coffee at supermarkets and they even provided grinders, but it's all been pushed out in favor of entire aisles full of k-cups.
You're pretty much limited to getting reamed by local roasters or online prices, especially in a small town.
>>
>>7216366
>local roasters
My local roaster does fucking amazing roasts, and $15 a pound Canuckistani shekles isn't especially crazy. There's pre-bagged whole beans on the shelves here still of coffee that tastes like shit for the same price.

We have local roasters that make excellent beans for anywhere from $15-$30+ per pound. Luckily, there's also a local Co-Op that sells whole bean coffee and they routinely have quality stuff on sale at ~$9/lbs.

I can't be bothered to take a picture, but my coffee setup includes a 4 cup Mr Coffee, a French press, and an espresso maker. I typically buy breakfast blend for the Mr Coffee and espresso/dark roast for the espresso machine. I've gotten good enough at steaming milk that I'm *almost* ready to try going full hipster and making latte art.

If you prefer coffee from a K-cup, you should kill yourself.

>>

I haven't seen a supermarket grinder in a long time. I remember as a kid walking down the coffee in krogers there was always a mess of beans and grounds near the grinder.

Not sure who is behind the k cups but last time I was in Walmart they had k cups in the dinner ware aisle and in electronic deparmebt. They have been pushing this scam hard lately
>>
>>7216732
>extremely popular with coffee drinkers
>a scam
it's not walmarts fault that people are buying k-cups in droves
people actually seem to like convenience of pressing a button and getting a consistent portion of coffee in only a few minutes.
Look at their machines and how tall they are.
They're purposefully designed to fit travel mugs underneath the spout.
They're designed for people who want their morning caffeine sludge to give them a little morale for the morning commute, not for people who enjoy experimenting with coffee and the general process of making coffee.

Meet Mr. Coffee. I got him for $7 at a thrift store and hasn't failed me yet. He just makes this annoying series of five really loud beeps when the pot is ready, and I'm looking to disable that feature.

Just gimme two and a half cups of strong, preferably tasty coffee in the morning so I can take my dump. I can't drink it in the afternoon, 'cause I'm a sensitive lad.

My last mr. coffee machine went to charity after I forgot to remove the filter with used grounds in it and then put it away for several months.

me again. i've been looking at reviews and can't find a decent demonstration so i'm giving up.

i'm of the opinion that there's no real way to prevent the air from degrading the coffee because even an air-tight container will have air in it. but avoiding light and moisture are easy enough.

having said that, even if that thing does suck the air out i'm not sure it's really worth the effort if you're using beans.

It's like, if you see a sad movie, you cry. If you see a scary movie, you scream or jump. You see a funny movie, you laugh. These are all involuntary reactions. What if the movie is just grand and epic and you've been smiling the whole time, and at the end, what do you do to show everyone else what you've been experiencing? You clap, because there isn't an involuntary reaction for "le epic blockbuster movie." Some americlaps take it too far, though, as I've read on here, and clap at every major scene. That shit sucks. We're taught to wait until the end to clap and cheer, but some people are too overeager and think that because they're the biggest geeks of the movie's fandom, they get to take attention from the film.

I almost regret getting in to coffee. I used to be satisfied with some bustelo out of a moka pot with milk and sugar. It now tastes like shit to me. And now that I'm off milk it's undrinkable. I drink mostly happy mug and locally roasted stuff, and it tastes amazing. It's a rather pricey habit though since I currently drink 42 grams of the good coffee supply a day. I'm also considering purchasing a baratza encore to replace my shitty aliexpress-rebrand knockoff porlex. I want off this ride.

>>7219877
That moka pot is the qt-iest thing I've seen this year. How are those coffees? I have happy mug's yirgacheffe adado coming in tomorrow. I'm pretty excited for it.

>no brikka pot

>>7220852
The Honey processed Costa Rican is pretty good. Very sweet and fruity. The Yemen Mokka is really amazing though slightly spicy with notes of deep chocolate and elderberry.

I highly recommend getting of the Yemen before its gone. Its really a very special bean.

>>7221064
>no brikka pot

Its literally just a moka with a heavier valve. Not worth the price difference to me for how often I brew with a moka

>no siphon

Used to have one, sold it. Pretty big pain in the ass to set up, brew, and clean.

>No frother

I almost never drink milk drinks at home so the $100 for a stand alone frother like the Bellman Steamer isn't justified to me and when I do make milk drinks the FP froths milk just fine and much better than those little POS battery powered one

>no briki

I have a Turkish ibrik which I find much better than the briki which is the Greek version. Still, I hardly ever use it and its put up who knows where.
>>
>>7220852
Oh, >>7221965 again,

I forgot to mention every Tuesday Baratza puts up refurbs on their website. You can regularly get Encores for $100. If you want new then buy it from Happy Mug its the same 129 as everywhere else but also comes with a free 1lb or roasted or 3lb of green.

What kind of sucks about Baratzas is companies are allowed to sell it below 129 but aren't allowed to openly advertise the price so you just have to keep checking various places and hope to get lucky.

I hear you about the price. There are still a lot of things that I want to get. I drink mostly Happy Mug as well because its good, fresh coffee for about as cheap as you can get it. I just can't afford 18/12oz most places charge all the time.
>>

i have a chemex, aero press, clover, bee, and a french press.
>>
>>7217448
I leave my coffee beans in a french canning jar. Put that jar in the cabinet away from the light
>>
>>7221980
Yeah I've been eyeing Baratza's refurb page for a while, and just when I had justified the $100 splurge in my head, it was gone. I'll wait next Tuesday. Thanks for the heads up.

Happy Mug's prices are amazing. For $13 I can get a pound of really fresh coffee shipped to me. $13 + $5.50 train fares only gets me 12 oz of not quite as good coffee from a local roaster. Happy Mug's prices are going up though. http://blog.happymugcoffee.com/2015/12/23/2016/

On a side note, I believe pilon really is better than bustelo. It's not roasted as dark, as an anon said about a week ago or so. I had it straight from my moka pot last night.

>>7222049
