Alexandros - Best gyro ever. In Toronto, Canada. It's in Greektown. All about homemade tzatziki, fresh onions. Traditional ones have tomatoes, but I don't like them in sandwiches as they water them down.

Actual meat is used in proper gyros. Fuck shwarma, kebob, whatever processed asshole meat that is. Greek people know food, it is some good stuff.

the pitas are so fresh, the doughy texture compliments the 'sandwich' or 'wrap' or whatever the fuck it is, very goddamn well. they are not made in house though, but the turnover they have there they gotta be made daily. They are open until 4 or 5 am every night. even on xmas.....we usually taxi there drunk when there is nothing open xmas night.

Canada has lots of amazing food. the 'flyover' places often have F.O.B folks, who serve there home countries dishes well. Along with typical american food. (burgers always suck at these type of places)

halal carts are really hit and miss. I like the ones where they're still 4 bucks for a gyro and 5 for a chicken/lamb over rice but have yelp reviews and put extra condiments on it.

Best gyro I've ever had was a little hole in the wall place in Savannah, Ga. Somewhere down Habersham, not far from downtown. Used to eat there all the time when I was a student.

Shwarma is the thing that uses real meat. I have practically never seen a gyros place that doesn't use pre-seasoned loafs of ground meat.
Tfw the only Mediterranean place in my town closed. They had very good food authentic as well. And would give up some of their recipes. But they were cold people and didnt have a soda dispenser so they failed in my town. Havent had a good gyro since.
