I'm white as day and I think Sweet Potato Pie is vastly superior to Pumpkin.
Pumpkin doesn't have a natural flavor, it's just a base that tastes good because of the sugar, butter, and spices added to it. "Pumpkin Spice" like at Starbucks doesn't contain Pumpkin for this very reason.
Yams on the other hand have lots of natural flavor so a Sweet Potato Pie doesn't need as much sugar added and the Sweet Potato has a good flavor of its own.
Fuck Pumpkin Pie, Sweet Potato is the real deal and blacks have been holding that secret openly for years. Same for Ox Tail.

You can do latkes with sweet potato. I make them sometimes for my family. Sweet potato is often in tzimmes too. You can also use it in kugel. You can make sweet potato challah too, which is good.
