I've had a cheese course instead of desert pretty much every time I've been out to dinner in the last five years. For some reason I went off sweet things as soon as I hit my 20s

I usually order that or a charcuterie/antipasto plate as my appetizer...
in either case it does confuse me that you would have something so rich/heavy for dessert.

Honourable mention for one of the worst desserts I can think of. It's like eating chalk covered in sugar.
Bananna split cake is probably my favorite.
i've been looking for this desert for a while after i had it a few years ago.
It was like a dense chocolate cake with a layer of chocolate bar on the bottom. It wasn't icing it was a solid layer of chocolate that added a nice texture with the actual cake. I think I got it at trader joes but can't remember.
