I like cucumber
I use gin for cocktails only, don't like it straight/neat/on the rocks
should I get a bottle of pic related or should I stick to the cheapest gin I can find (some €5 per bottle, lidl's copy of I can't remember what cheap gin)?
It'd cost some €30, would it be worth it?
>>
Most people who are "into gin" can thank hendricks for their hobby, whether they will admit it or not.

It's pretty damm good, and has converted tons of people who previously thought they didn't like gin.

On the other hand, if "worth it" is in your vocabulary for a $30 liquor purchase, it probably isn't. Save your money, or sell your body to much older men who will buy you expensive drinks as a prelude to degrading dirty sex.

Everyone uses gin for cocktails only. I think you can get better gin for the price.

1. What's cucumber got to do with gin?
2. Hendrick's is good gin
3. Find the cheapest gin that still tastes good to you when you mix it; it's a matter of taste
3a. Have fun experimenting

Let me first ask you, how do you mix your cocktails? Say, if you were to make a G&T. Are we talking 1 to 3, or 1 to 5? Generally, the stronger you like your drinks, the more important having good spirits is.

Personally, I say go for it. Hendrick's is pretty good stuff. Not pic related, but still delightful.
>>
Unless you're broke, try it. I like it. Muddle a cucumber and throw in some chilled hendricks, experiment with soda/tonic water. Be a homo and rim the glass with a cucumber slice for bonus points.

I like hendricks because it has flavor

Tanqueray is better and cheaper.
>>
>>7122658
>Tanqueray

another good choice.
>>
>>7122614

Bellringer is a very nice budget gin.

Keep in mind, though, gin varies much more on just quality. Some are more juniper-forward, others boast other strong botanical flavors, and some have sweeter notes, such as Old Tom.

What do you normally drink your gin with? If you like to experiment with new cocktails, then you might want to have a few on hand if budget isn't a question
>>
tanqueray=tank her up
>>
>>7122614
Hendrick's is one of the best gins that exist. I tried like 30 different brands.
They are all utter shit compared to Hendrick's. It's good that I am not a richfag, otherwise I would drink that stuff every day, becoming a hopeless alcoholic.
If you think some 5€ pisswater from Lidl will do it where even the lowest of the popular barrel like Gordons tastes like rotten washcloth compared to Hendrick's, just keep on chucking.
You only live once.
>>
>>7122624
1. from what I gathered, Hendricks has a peculiar cucumber taste
did I gather wrong?
>>7122628
>Let me first ask you, how do you mix your cocktails?
either by shaking or stirring them
>Say, if you were to make a G&T. Are we talking 1 to 3, or 1 to 5?
about 1 to 2, with a slice of lemon
tonic I use usually sucks as well tho
I should get around gathering some fever tree stock for the holidays
>>7122630
>Be a homo and rim the glass with a cucumber slice for bonus points.
will do
>>7122658
>Tanqueray is better and cheaper.
how is it better?
cause I'm considering hendricks because I'm not much into gin, mostly because of the strong juniper + herbal flavor, but I usually like gin cocktails, say g+t and various gin fizzes
so since I had read and heard that hendricks had a cucumber flavor I thought I might like it more than other gins
>>7122670
>What do you normally drink your gin with? If you like to experiment with new cocktails, then you might want to have a few on hand if budget isn't a question
I drink gin with all sorts of stuff
in the last year I got more and more into mixing drinks, I got tools and books, and at this point I'm still experimenting
I'm a student tho and I don't wanna spend much money to buy different bottles of something I generally don't like much
what would be a good option if not hendricks, considering I'm not the biggest fan of gin?

Törichter Idiot.
>>

>Why is Tanqu better?
It is better than Beefeater because it has stronger juniper which is what I like from gin. You would be better off getting Hendrick's at a bar first to see if it's worth the extra money for you. I personally think that it is good, but not as good as many people would lead you to believe. I'd say most people who say it is the best gin don't drink enough gin.

I usually use Tanqueray most of the time but when I get top shelf gin I get >>7122623.

yeah man you have three options:

1. buy hendrick's, it's good, and spendy, but there's no other product like it

2. Buy some Monarch gin (if you live in the PNW) and dump a bunch of fucking cucumbers into it to infuse.

3. Use New Amsterdam or Broker's and garnish your martini/cocktail with cucmber bitters or sliced cucumber. Those two brans already have a sweet and citrusy emphasis to them so the additional cucumber in the drink will really give it some pop BUT

BUT if you don't like other gin botanicals, such as juniper, you're better off going with option 1

I recently bought a bottle of Hendricks for the first time, and it was great.

If mixing I think Tanqueray is a fine choice as well; quite good.

I am not a fan of Bombay Sapphire. It is okay in the right mix but much more limited.

Those are the only gins I am familiar with.
>>
>>7122653
That stuff tastes like vodka
If you don't like gin, it's ok. But I don't see the point in drinking vodka that looks like gin just so you can pretend not to be the drinks equivalent of "I don't eat onions"

It's the same guy who picks a thread to ruin every time he's drunk. Last time he was responsible for about half the posts in a 250+ post thread, the next morning the thread was eviscerated because he derailed every single attempt at getting it on track so it was just a bunch of broken quotes left when the mods finally came through.

The best hope of this thread surviving is to report and ignore. Do not reply to his shitposts.

You're a real fagget aren't you. So like an obama or clinton supporter you'd rather ban people then have rational discourse. That really shows that you're a fucking fagget.
>>
It's worth €30 yes.

But again depends what you're mixing it with?
Cucumber, mint, lime are all good combinations.

If you're going more the bitter route, such as grapefruit, blood orange or chinnotto, something like Tanqueray or Martin Millers is best.

Beefeater is good with lemon, not much else.

Bombay if you like sweet and fruit gin to make into tiki style cocktails.

Firstly, a lot of tastings and competitions actually say Lidl gin is a very good gin. I personally keep a bottle for experimenting or if im mixing something that uses juice that will hide the taste of the gin.

I didnt really like Hendricks that much when I tried it. I wouldnt turn it down, but its not really something I would choose. Also it is quite expensive so I dont own a bottle.

My gin collection is currently The Botanist, Monkey 47, Bombay Sapphire, Gordons and some cheap Aldi gin. Also waiting on delivery of pic related from Black Friday sales.
