Why are these things so underrated?
>>7113770
because most of the world isn't mexico.
1. How the fuck do you pronounce it
2. If they aren't perfectly ripe, they taste like giving a homeless wino a rimjob
>>7113770
Dated a Japanese girl a while back who fucking loved these things. They're not bad, just kind of bland. I'd rather have any number of other fruits instead.
>>7113770
permissions are great to make pie with
>>7113788
my korean qt3.14 gf eats them all the time. I think they're really good.
>>7113788
persimmon is not.. bland...
let me guess, you think a peach is bland too? oranges, strawberries? stick to your mtn dew and doritos?
>>7113770
We used to grow an older variety of persimmons, where the fruit would have to get super super soft before it was ripe, most people would have thought it was off, but the fruit isn't spoilt, and tastes really rich, like jam. If you ate it earlier it was extremely tannin.
The varieties I've bought in the supermarket are ripe when they're still firm, but aren't nearly as tasty.
>>7113770
I like these. Stocked up when they were going cheap at Aldi the other week.
>>7113770
Biting into one of these is like biting into a water balloon, not worth the money - just buy some apples.
>>7113847
No? I like most fruits a lot. I only ever had the kind of persimmon in OP's picture though, the Fuyu ones. Maybe there are other ones that are more flavorful.
>>7113864
no.
They're very cheap where I live as well. I won't call them bland, but they're not a burst of flavor either.
Does anyone got some great recipes with them?
>>7113864
maybe if you stop being a blatant pedo first.
>>7113770
nice permissions
>>7113864
You should just carry around a sack of persimmons and offer them to everyone, so you become the persimmon guy. Persimmon Pete, they'll call you. Once you've got the reputation built up, asian qts will know exactly who to go to for their persimmon fix.
>>7113770
Those are god tier. I think people are just terribly impatient, because it does take quite awhile, compared to most fruits, to reach optimum ripeness. BUT OH LAWD, when they're soft and ripe, they are fucking elder god tier.
they am tasting like many butts
>>7113770
Everyone likes tomatoes m8 what's the big deal
>>7114188
1. Acquire persimmons
2. Ripen to near-mush softness
3. Refrigerate
4. Cut open top and dig in with spoon
>>7113770
because they are garbage fruit for shitheads
I cut these up and put them in greek yogurt. So good

I didn't even know what a persimmon was before I moved to Korea.
I have a friend who bought them by mistake thinking they were tomatoes.

OK, Y'all clearly have no idea that there are two common kinds of persimmons and a ton of other varieties.
This is the Fuyu persimmon. It can be eaten hard and unripe for a stronger flavor or it can be eaten soft and ripe for a sweeter, blander flavor.
You can also find these dried whole at Asian markets - great in a hot infusion or as a snack.

This is a Hachiya persimmon. They can be eaten ONLY when EXTREMELY soft unless you want your whole mouth to shrivel up. Cut off the top and eat it with a spoon.
Here's a vid with more kinds:

5. profit!
etc
Living in korea. These grow everywhere. Got to pick some at my University. Sweet like honey and super soft. They make you constipated though
The mushy ones are really lovely. But I prefer the hard ones. I dont know the names of them in english. Koreans just call them gam and sweet gam.
Theres other types, but not as common so i havent learned them yet.

Their seeds grow so easily. It's a fruit, and a fun project.

Heirloom tomatoes are GOAT.
>>7114819
Mmm, sharon fruit. I remember them being syrupy and delicious.
>>7116765
It's hard to find good ones in places they don't grow, same with fresh guava.
