I'm actually in Texas going to drive to Lake Charles, LA. Actually my girlfriend is going to drive while I sip Canadian Club the whole way there while counting the Waffle Houses.

We'll be eating at the buffet at Golden Nugget and L'auberge. Insider tip: get in the buffet right before 10:30 am. You pay the breakfast price but at 10:30 they switch over to the regular buffet. It will save you like $40 with 2 people

Some of my extended family is coming later this evening. I've got 3 handles of canadian club, a case of bottled water, loads of granola bars, cashews and empty gatorade bottles to piss in. I hope it's enough to last me until they leave, because I'm staying in my room until they do.

I'm very bad at pretending I don't hate everyone in my family, so it's just best for everyone if I stay away until they're gone.

i quit drinking
im never coming back to these threads and ive been in them for pretty much all year
run and never look back if you're an alcoholic. it'll never end. there'll never be that 'ok, one more bottle, and im done.'
i'm done because i decided to be done. the voices still come but i shut them down, i yell over them, and i will repeat 'i don't drink anymore' to myself over and over, verbally, forever if need be.

I'M DONE!

Has anyone else started getting worse and worse hangovers?
I had 7 pints on Saturday night, a lot but not massive and I was hung over literally all day. It didn't used to be like this.
Is it just an age thing, or a 'body giving up after years of abuse' thing?
>>
>>7103316
How old are you? Hangovers start to become more of a thing once you cruise past 30, and phrases like "it didn't used to be like this" become common.

Use to love drinking. Still do but I can't really do it like i used to.

If I get blown out one night, I will have crippling anxiety for absolutely no reason the next day. Like I will feel like i'm constantly in panic attack mode for the whole day. This then coerces me into getting a little buzz that next night to fall asleep etc, just to ween of the anxiety.

I see how addictions start with shit like this. Trying to nip it in the bud. Doesn't help that my girlfriend of almost 4 years said she couldn't marry me and we broke up.

Why does drinking have to turn on me know?

26 here as well. How often do you drink?
I drank daily for almost a year and my hangovers weren't a problem at all. Had to give it up for a few months for legal reasons and when I started drinking again I got the worst hangovers I've had in my life. That was a few years ago and I'm back drinking daily now and don't get hangovers at all anymore.

tl;dr It depends on how much and how often you drink
>>

shits tough man, after I come off a bender I have trouble sleeping the next 2-3 nights. Bad anxiety, breathing trouble, gruesome nightmares. I usually have to take an over the counter sleep aid or I just lay awake the entire night
>>
What was that whole theory about how when you get withdrawls from heavy drinking, you're more likely to get them again or something because of the neural damage? I ask because I used to be able to drink quite a few nights of the week, be slightly hung over the next morning but fine for the most part. But I went on about a 2 week bender, had withdrawls for about 4 days after, then stopped for about a week. Now even if I just drink a mild amount for one night I start getting withdrawl symptoms for multiple days after

Any russians or euros in this thread?

This here is claims to be objectively the best vodka in the world. Having tried it, it's Russia's alcoholism explained in a bottle. Seriously even my wife won't leave this shit alone. Every shot leads to another shot. Why the fuck haven't I heard of it until now?

Presumably because they don't distribute in America? Anyway, wanted to check if anyone else has heard of it. Russians in particular- dare you dispute that this is the best liquid you can put in your mouth?

My brain has actually built out entire repeating sets for the horrors to play out in. Noe recurring nightmares. Recurring settings for new nightmares. There's one that's this futuristic skyscraper with a 3D elevator that combines claustrophobia with acrophobia because sometimes the elevator follows a roller-coaster like track on the outside of the building. It's killed me like 5 different ways. Falling, crashing, crushing, suffocating, etc.

Fun times.
>>
>>7110574
How do you let that scare you. You have to realize it's a dream at this point, right? Dreams are great at giving you power over your fears. If you die in a dream, there's no consequences. I'll often just drift into another "character" in the dream and work through their perspective in the dream environment. It gets pretty cool.

Dreams are a way to escape reality for me. Like booze, but even more fun. You can be anyone, in any situation. Even the supposedly scary ones are more interesting. You get to feel things and be stimulated, even if it's negative things. It's exciting.
>>
>>7110628
The only way I can describe it, it's like Groundhog Day. I'm in the same place, under the same circumstances, but there is an unseen, unidentified force controlling. All options lead to the most terrifying possible conclusion. Not even memeing. That movie was one of the most horrifying experiences I've ever had in a cinema. What was the controlling force? Who was making the judgements? What were the terms of control and compliance? Who was in charge of that reality? WHAT was in charge of that reality?

That is exactly the problem and mystery that powers the horror. This is an a;.ck thread that I started. You might be normie enough that your brain still provides you with the illusion of sovereign control. I'm beyond that point, and not by a little. When sleep comes, it's biochem fireworks.

Serious. Bill Murray gradually comes around to the realization that he is subject, submitted, subbed, to a test. A test without questions. A test with unlimited punishments and suffering. A test with no rules, and no time limit. No sign posts. A test only the unseen force can bring to an end. Only the unnamed, omniscient, omnipotent, omnipresent force can can bring to a conclusion. The best estimates are the Murray character spent thousands of years living the same day over and over. Why? According to what code of compliance? WHAT GOD WAS RULING THAT UNIVERSE? Fuck pham. That was way worse than Jaws. At least in Jaws we finally got to see the shark.

Pro tip. Seagrams Platinum Select Vodka is 100 proof for $10. You can add 20% water and you have 1000ml normal vodka for the price of 750ml.

Understand that it's you, since it comes from your brain. That's the glory of dreams. Every time you find yourself in those familiar situations, understand that you're powering it. You're designing it. It's based off of your memories, and your imagination.

I've never had a nightmare since I was a small child, because I understood at some point that dreams are based off your experiences, and have no consequences. Don't let the paranoia consume you in a dream, since you're the one in control. I'll let myself feel paranoia and anxiety in dreams, only because it's fun to feel something so strongly. You can gain control of your dreams, even with alcoholism. It just takes practice. You're extra aware of your dreams after you wake up then go back to sleep. It's great. You're aware of what's happening, so see it as a ride. See it as an exploration of certain aspects of yourself and what you've dedicated brain space to.

After becoming aware of my dreams, I noticed they're based off of experience. Whatever you've been thinking of or obsessing about throughout the day will be present in your dreams. Or of you have reoccurring dreams they'll match your expectations of what happens when you dream.

Repeat, you can control it once you're aware of it. Much easier than controlling real life.

Fu/ck/! My dad was in hospital for some minor things but I had a nice long talk with him.
>Life is short anon-son, why are you still NEETing. You're 30 god dammit.
>I-I'm a severely alcoholic Dad-san
Since he's in the hospital and have all the time in the world he calls me every 5 minutes to be sure I go to an AA meeting.
I should go tonight. What to expect al/ck/ies? Will I get raped by a freshly out of prison biker?
>>
>>7115238
Getting involved in AA is just trading one addiction for another
>>
>>7115246
AA doesn't cause organ failure and brain damage. It may be true, but that's a pretty stupid way to think about it.
>>
>>7115246
Bah, it's like vaping instead of smoking.
Vaping is more addictive than cigarettes. I personally feel I'm inhaling shit when I'M vaping. But it's 1000x less dangerous and nocive than smoking tobacco and at leats 75% cheaper.
So yes you're trading an addiction for another, but it's for the better.
BTW do you think I should trade alcohol abuse for valium/ativan abuse?
>>
>>7115270

>>
>>7112849
oh man that shit was fun. being the most senior staff member during an evening shift when you know the district manager won't show up was a great time to pound drinks before work.
>>
>>7115238
>Will I get raped by a freshly out of prison biker?

No, but a hug is by no means out of the question. It is possible to succeed at AA prior to hitting bottom only in the presence of extraordinary ability to be actually and completely honest about yourself in the presence of strangers.

Because, though it is not required at any one meeting, sooner or later, you will have to speak. To /share/. Sooner or later you will have to commit to step one, and so on through 12, and what you best do before you decide is look them over and assess your will. Because making amends is going to be humiliating, and a lot of folks don't have the stones.

The Ye-shall-not-pass question is this: why do you drink?

In the context of AA, any answer that does not begin with "Me. Because of me. I lack...." is a failure. This is the AA formula in a nutshell - it is not because of something or someone outside. You must own it. It is yours.
>>
>>7115667
This is a good answer, I hope he takes your advice.

Valium abuse is worse that alcohol. Had both addictions. 1.5l of vodka a day. then 10mg - 80mg Xanax. I'd choose the booze anyday Benzo WD are fucking a nightmare, Because they detox you with just enough valium so you dont die. 9 days of sliding 50mg - 0 Valium. 9 days of hell.

Any abuse of any benzo fucks your body & head up . I was only 23 at the time so I avoided all of the physical effects becuase I was young and healthy. Mental health is gone though.

>>
>>7111162
i drink bud lights all day. you never really get drunk but you stay buzzed (and hydrated)
>>
>>7115270

>Vaping is more addictive to cigarettes

No, it's not

There was a study that attempted to claim this but just had some bad wording, it actually means that its HARDER TO QUIT CIGARETTES if you RETURN TO CIGARETTES FROM VAPING since your nicotine tolerance is boosted by a lot

Cigarettes have additives in them that release MAOI inhibitors, which make it hard to quit, not the nicotine (As evidenced by a shitload of people who vape lower and lower nicotine levels each week or month and eventually quit all together or go onto 0mg)

Don't feel like shit for vaping, it's better in every way unless you're prissy about looking like you're sucking a robot dick

If that were really true, and if there really is no one in your life who has been effected in any way, even by disappointment, then I know exactly what my ex-sponsor would say:

Make amends to yourself.

And in case the other anon is still looking, that's also the most infuriating, and effective, technique they have. Like Morpheus, they know far more than you can imagine, and every verbal attempt at evasion or escape is invariably bent back upon you until there is no alternative but to give in and get with the program -- or leave the program.
>>
>>7115806
I get real ephedrine for my exercise induced asthma. If I take it daily for more than a week at a time I'm left with awful depression. Thoughts of worthlessness, self and external hatred, apathy etc that can last for a few months. Shit ruins your serotonin receptors.
>>
>>7116440
It's also destructive since the whole point is to grant self control, yet they also assume everyone is the same type of alcoholic. If you have half a brain you can work around everything they say.

Not to mention the recent This American Life podcast where a woman completely dedicated to AA discovered that she wasn't really an alcoholic at all. Good story about how AA affects the mind.

>why does everyone make a big deal about drinking alone?

Im not making a big deal about it. Im just saying that drinking half a 750mler in 20 minutes, lying down on the floor playing a podcast through your headphones and being too drunk to make sense of it, before getting up and taking more mouthfulls of straight vodka isn't a good use of time or healthy way to spend an evening.
>>
>>7116526
Drink half that while downloading podcasts, then one shot right before you go for a nice long walk. At least an hour, but hopefully longer. Then you'll be feeling great by the time you get back.

Personally I just have three or so high abv beers then go for a two hour walk. I'll have it with dinner so the buzz lasts longer. It's perfect for late night cold weather walks. Really immerses you in the podcasts.
>>

get some bottles of cider (apple beer), some stouts (guiness is a favorite the world over), and a bottle of 15 year old scotch (will interest people who have heard of it and want to try it)
>>
>>7116529

Yeah I feel you man, I used to do that, but I have an addictive personality and my drinking got to the point that I just had to keep imbimbing alcohol. Im taking a break for at least half a year, and then maybe I'll be able to enjoy walking my dog buzzed with good old No Agenda like I used to be able to.
>>
>>7116586
Good advice, but maybe not a dark heavy beer for a party. I brought a mixed case of craft beers to a Halloween party and no one but me and my boyfriend drank them. They were all chugging pbr. You might just want to go with a popular, easy drinking beer.

Everything else was gold advice.

yeag was gonna skip the stouts desu sorry helpful poster

im decided on the cider im gona bring but what about the scotch? gonna have to go for a 12 year cos 15 year are out of price range, short listed to one of these 2

Johnnie Walker Black Label
Chivas Regal 12 Year Old Scotch Whisky

which is best for someone that drinks pretty much never but just wants to be sociable

chivas is very popular. so is johnny walker. you would do fine with either of those. also, if glenfiddich is in the same price range, that's another option.

o and this one

Johnnie Walker Double Black
>>
>>7116667
and oh yeah, serve scotch in a glass with 2 ice cubes. you dont do shots of it. you sip it. scotches have a very interesting flavor profile. that's what makes them so enjoyable.

Had pic related for the first time yesterday. Really enjoyed it, but it was almost too inoffensive. It wasn't necessarily bland, it had enough going on, but it was very "safe" in a strange way. Still enjoyable, though.

Anyway, back home, back to the George Dickel 12.
>>
>>7119468
The most standard single malt available. Nothing bad, just pretty much down the middle for all things "single malt."

It's not meant to be a demeaning comparison, but it's kind of like how Jim Beam is a very "standard" bourbon. Nothing overly special, but a good introduction if you've never had the liquor before that will give you a fair idea of what to expect.

I maintain that Jim Beam is unfairly underrated due to it being the most widely available budget bourbon.
