What is your favourite cocktail?
>>
>>7098932

Gin martini with vermouth, cocktail onions and olive brine...so...a dirty martini I guess.
>>
Bourbon manhattan with orange bitters and Sazeracs are what I typically drink when its not just bourbon on the rocks or beer.

Depending on the season: Pimm's Cup, Gin and Tonic with lots of fresh lime, or a ramos gin fizz.

or just some good single malt scotch with a tiny bit (splash) of water. That's not really a cocktail though.

What's a good casual cocktail that won't hit me in the stomach like a brick but will get me buzzed quickly?

Dirty vodka martini. There is a place near by that serves it with blue cheese stuffed olives that makes me quite happy.
>>
>>7099200 lol, my post aside it is an excellent drink. You can also order it with white rum instead of Orange Vodka if you want it a smidge less sweet!
>>7099208 yeah, I mean don't expect it to taste like the Cactus Cooler soda but every single bar I've gone to has made it perfectly. It's sweet but not too sweet, usually around $3-5 and gets you tiddly after three.
Also doesn't look too girly if you're a guy who likes tropical drinks.

Tequila and tonic
>>
>>7098932
Old fashioned
Prefer it with basil Hayden but most bars only have Woodford as their top bourbon
A grey goose & tonic is nice occasionally too
>>
>>7098952
It's been a while since I've been there and back then absinthe was still illegal in many places but a lot of absinthe I saw in Prague was neon green cat piss to sell to tourists. I'm sure they make some good absinthe now, though, since the Czechs tend to have an eye for quality and love getting drunk.

As for the question, I don't really know if it matters all that much, since you're not using a huge amount of it and it's going to be mixed with bitters and other liquor.
>>
>>7099496
Any pointers towards picking a good absinthe?
>>
>>7099496
Czechsinthe is still shit. There may be a few good ones out there now, but most of it is still the same as ever. That said, you don't need real absinthe to make a good sazerac. I'd avoid anything artificially colored out of fear that it would make the drink look weird, but any anise-y spirit should work. I've even used shitty ouzo and it came out just fine.

>>7099819
Color is a good indication. It shouldn't look artificially colored. That's virtually always a sign that they used extracts instead of real herbs. Beyond that, there's not much you can go on from just looking at the packaging. Wormwood Society has a shit ton of reviews, which should help. Do you know what your choices are, or have you not started looking yet?

gin and tonic or a tom collins
>>
If its hot and sunny outside, causing me to want something refreshing then I go for a caipirinha or gin and tonice. If its lunch time or early evening (still light outside) then a martini. If its evening and dark outside, a Manhattan.

These rules arent set in stone. Sometimes I might have an Old Fashioned if its been a long day of drinking and I dont want to deal with a delicate Manhattan glass.
>>
I normally stick to just gin & tonics with a slice of lime, but a friend left some Barenjager over here. Anything decent I can make with this honey syrup?
>>
>>7099898
Would be good for an old fashioned, especially one with scotch or Irish whiskey. It would go well with tequila too.

Try 2oz tequila or Irish, 1oz lemon juice, .75oz Barenjager?

I'm a beer guy but a buddy and I will be visiting a friend who is into mixing drinks and I was wondering what kinda vodka based cocktails are out there?

Also; what are some nice Polish vodkas, as I want to gift him a bottle?
>>
Where the fuck is the al/ck/ thread?

Just drank a couple highball glassfulls of whiskey from my roommates bottle and replaced it with water

he won't even taste the difference
>>
>>7100317
Used whiskey. 8/10 thanks, great way to use free alcohol
>>
>>7100626
Vodka is pretty much neutral so you can mix it with anything and all it will do is add alcoholic bite. It mixes easily with fruit juices, sodas, liqueurs, etc.

I'm not going to claim to be a connoisseur, but Luksusowa is an honest bottle of polish - clearly better than poor-tier vodkas. It is good enough vodka, and better than it needs to be if you're mixing, although the shelf price might not be high enough to be considered a nice gift. This is what I usually buy when it is available; to me it is the same quality as Grey Goose or other popular "fancy" vodkas.

>Luksusowa is an honest bottle of polish

I like the "silkier" feel of Luksusowa and that's what I keep at home for the occasional Screwdriver I might make a couple of times during the summer months.

I'm thinking I might pick up a bottle of Michigan rye vodka as the gift bottle and bring another bottle of Luksusowa potato vodka for the cocktails (for which I'm still waiting for some suggestions?)

What is that drink in the pic? And what are those cucumbers? Sounds interesting.
>>
pepper vodka and lemonade

>>
>>7100626
There are a lot of vodka cocktails. Personally I favour the more traditional style cocktails, without all the overly sweet fruit purees.

Moscow mules are popular, although not to my taste. A bloody mary is great for breakfast. Other favourites of mine include Kamikazee and vodka martini
>>

I'm thinking I'll ask our friend to mix me up a Vesper, (James Bond's famous martini) though it appears I'm going to have to buy a bottle of Cocchi Americano, as I'm guessing he probably doesn't have any on hand (or maybe he does?)

Also, I'd like to try a Vodka Gimlet, as it plays a critical part in Raymond Chandler "The Long Goodbye" (though it's made with gin in the story, and I don't want that).

And I'll have a Kamikaze, as a buddy from back in the day used to love these and would get wasted on them and crack us all up (until he drunkly drove his truck into a deep ditch and had to pay out the ass for a tow truck to get him out...)

And maybe a Vodka Gibson.
>>
OJ + Tequila or Sour mix + Vodka
Sometimes I throw Fresca in whatever
>>
How do I start drinking stronger alcohol? I love to drink gin tonic, rhum punch, margaritas, mojitos but I can't taste vodka or any kind of scotch/whiskey/bourbon. There's only some subtle aftertaste while the rest is just an attack on my mouth.

It sucks because I like that subtle aftertaste but it's so overpowered by the sheer strength of the alcohol that I don't get to enjoy it.

I also can't even drink other drinks that look nice like martinis or an old fashioned and all these other drinks.
>>
I've always wanted to make a Ramos Gin Fizz

I find when drinking hard liquor straight the best flavours come out with the smallest sips - this way the alcohol dissipates quickly so you get relatively more time with the flavor itself.

Singapore Sling

For 4:

130ml Gin

200ml Orange Juice
200ml Pineapple Juice
60ml of Lime Juice

This is not how you write a cocktail recipe.
You haven't defined what you do with those ingredients.
You could have said
>'throw them all into a container, shake with ice'
and that would have been enough.

>For 4:

You specify the quantities required for 1, and the reader will make however many they like.

>130ml
>200ml
>ml

You write cl, as in 10ml

>Rafferty's Singapore Sling (Variation)
Over 4 Ice Cubes, pour
4cl. Gin
1cl Triple Sec
1cl. Benedictine
1cl, Cherry Brandy
1cl. Grenadine
2cl. Lime Juice
1 drop of Angostura Bitters
20cl. Pineapple Juice, or as desired
Decorate with a skewer with a slice of Rockmelon, an Orange wedge, Pineapple leaf, and a Cocktail Cherry.

This is not pedantic bullshit, it simply makes everything easier to read and execute, which is the point of a recipe, like proper indentation and commenting for programming code.
