>>

>>
On November 11 here in Korea is 'Pepero Day' (1111, get it). Everyone gives everyone boxes of those things. I can't stand them.
>>
>>7089042

>>
>>7088945
Pocky is just tall chocolate biscuits.
>>

>spicy sesame oil
>huge bag of sticky rice

>>
Anyone ever had dry squid?
What's it like?
>>
>>7089297

>>
>>7088945
Golden Curry
>>
Squid snacks, frozen pork buns, seaweed salads, some meat, sushi rice, pickles, fresh breads or desserts, sauces if I need them.

The only thing I haven't worked up the gall to do is to get seafood from the counter. Have nooo idea if those dudes would understand english.
>>
>>7089297
Yummmmmmmmm
>>
Jahe Wangi ginger tea
Nagaraya cracker nuts, hard to find since there was a scare about them being toxic or some shit.
Frozen fish balls for soups
Frozen fish cakes and dumplings for whenever
Vietnamese coffee for that sweet diabetes iced coffee
Tinned curry pastes for laksas, green/red curry, etc.
Cheap tempeh, bok, and bean sprouts.
Also cheap $5 choppers that work perfectly fine for most jobs if you happen to not have knife related autism.

Fortunately my town got culturally enriched a few decades ago and can reap the benefits of about a dozen or so Asian Markets
>>
a couple of tubs of gochujang, as I have a legitimate addiction to it
Frozen rice cakes for when I don't feel like making my own
That yuzu tea that comes in a jar
A few packs of vermont curry mix
a fuckton of garlic
gyoza wraps
shiitake mushrooms (cheapest place to get them in town)
>>
>>7089046

Yakult and these other drink things. I have no idea what they're called, and they're completely unlabeled. They look like sausage links made of translucent plastic and come in a string of 3. The links are larger than a cat tail puff and contain juice. You can cut them apart to seperate them for individual servings.

I don't always buy all of these every time but some of my favorite things are:

>Golden Curry
>Okonomiyaki flour though I've used bisquick and there's not a huge difference
>Sapporo brand Chow Mein flavor ramen
>Apple Sidra
>Coconut pocky
>Samanco Taiyaki ice cream sandwich
>Koala's March (preferably chocolate or regular milk cream)
>Dehydrated soy protein and/or Seitan
>Enoki mushrooms
>>
>>7088945
>>7089042

I was going to buy a box once but I checked the ingredients first... fucking NOPE.

>hydrogenated
>>
>>7091855
Those are great. Most people however hate them because they smell like aquarium fish food.
>>
>>7091924
scientific name for vegetable shortening. I.E crisco
>>
>>7091924
>Sal Fat
Huge slam on Sal out of nowhere.
>>
>>7091924
All that means is that it's not real chocolate, it's chocolate flavoured fats.

Margarine is made out of hydrogenated oils too.
>>
I'll usually get taro mochi, seaweed snacks, weird mushrooms, red bean ice cream, some noodles, fruit if it looks good.
>>
>>7091937
>>7092022

Well aware of what it means and is. Which is why I wouldn't touch the shit.
>>
I only go when I'm fortunate enough to be in LA.

Kimchi dumplings/flat ones, frozen red bean and prom baos, kimchi bottle or store made kimchi, Korean instant coffee and barley tea, Korean pancake mix, some bulgogi and chicken teriyaki from the meat guy in back. At the Japanese store, I get calpis concentrate, potato sticks, seaweed salt potato chips, these rice crackers that are like a variety pack, big as fuck round crackers and around 5$, konbu and salmon onigiri, one bento to enjoy later, ready made croquettes, dashi powder, Java curry mix or Vermont, ume candy with a kimono girl on the front, salmon steaks cause nowhere else has em, Japanese chocolate that comes in a box of individually wrapped pieces with gold and brown packaging.
>>
>>7088945

Normally not a fan but someone gave me a pack of these blueberry ones and they're really pretty good.

The "chocolate" ones are trash, since they're really crying out for salt.
>>
>>7089297
Its pretty good with the gochujang (red pepper paste). I once had it as my hiking snack and that was a poor choice though desu.

I picked up some Black Black even though I'm not a gum guy. The flavor is really powerful and nice, I like it, even though I prefer non-minty gum.

Also got some of this. Imagine a flat Sprite in a Red Bull can. It's not good.

Went today and got taro and red bean mochi, konnyaku, purple vermicelli, wide rice noodles, a persimmon, and seaweed snacks. I think I'll cook something up with the konnyaku for lunch, but I've never cooked with it before. Maybe something with this vermicelli?
>>
>>7088945
Pocky is disgusting. I will never understand why weeaboos like that trash.
We have much better chocolate in Japan, you know.
>>
>>7094734
It's just a fad food. It comes in several flavors, it's cheap, and it's so pimped out in anime and manga it's just become the iconic weeb treat. The chocolate is subpar and waxy but that's kind of what Americans are used to. Most of our chocolate isn't actual chocolate, just cocoa-flavored oils.
>>
>>7091855
The perfect snack food.

Green onion pancake
Red bean milk bars
Sesame bars

About 12 of these lovely little drinks
Bonito flakes
Kombu
Dashi stock powder (what I use most of the time)
Sake
Shaoxing
Sesame oil
Sesame seeds (white and black)
Lychees/Rambutans/Longans
Golden Curry blocks
Coconut milk
Buna-Shimeji/Shiitake/Enokitake
Perilla
Burdock
A shit ton of tea
Pork belly
Fried tofu skins
Ginger
Noodles upon noodles upon noodles

>shiitake mushrooms (cheapest place to get them in town)

Seriously. Asian markets have the best prices on mushrooms period. I'm not paying 5.99 for what I could get for 2.00
>>
>>7095547
Ever had Yakult?

Pretty much exactly like that. It's described as a yoghurt drink or something and it tastes amazing.

Most of the ones you get aren't carbonated, in my area especially it's really hard to get a hold of Calpis Soda which is carbonated, though I've had it a couple of times and I'm not convinced that it's really much better than the original.

One thing I think no one has mentioned yet:

Banana leaves. They're great for making tamales and pasteles, and they add a nice subtle flavor to a lot of other dishes as well.

Ponzu sauce is pretty good as well.
Dried mushrooms are an essential. Supermarkets, if they even have some of the varieties of mushrooms you can find at an Asian market, will charge you ISIS ransom prices for this shit. Don't pay it. There's an easier way.
Black bean sauce.
