once upon a time my mom also bought a bread machine which was used one time. As a kid I thought you needed a special machine to make bread. Same thing with popcorn, when our air popper broke we just had bags of corn laying around because nobody thought to just put it in a hot pan with some oil.

Regular home made bread doesn't really taste like anything, unless you add lots of sugar, salt and fat to it.
Sourdough has a rich taste and the only ingredients are flour, water, and salt.
