2 weeks later

very leathery outer layer but you can squish it around a little

at this point i had to check for mold daily as it would form in the wrinkles

after 3 weeks: hard and zero squish

it's ready to eat (though you can eat them at any point really)
>>
Can you dry other fruits with this technique?
>>
>>7063546

i'm sure it would work on you, definitely.
>>
>>7063460
Have you tried it yet? They're heaven without being dried, so I wonder if it's worth it?
>>
>memefruit

Yeah fuck off, persimmon a shit, A SHIT
>>
>>7063445
Jesus Christ, where has the time gone?
>>
>>7063620
You seem upset?
>>
>>7063445
neat, i think they taste like used underwear but good to see OC as always

marmalade?
>>
>>7063457
What do you do when you find mold? Just wipe it off with a dry cloth?
>>
>>7063546
It could. I bought a sewing kit with this in mind, was thinking of trying it out with strawberries, sticking them on 1 long piece of string.

>>7063558
It's very tasty, it becomes less sweet and the flavour more complex and intense. If you like persimmons give it a try. Look up 'hoshigaki recipes' for full instructions.

>>7063621
think about how many years you've been here on /ck/

>>7063664
dried fruit basically

sounds like you had underripe ones

>>7063685
gently brush it off with a toothbrush, you can also dip in boiling water if you are worried
>>
Neat.

Is it literally just hanging them out?
>>
>>7064000
you have to peel them first, then you leave them hanging for a week

after that you start to massage it a little, to help break up the pulp inside and promote even drying

its pretty low effort stuff
>>
>>7063450
How did you get the strings to stand up sideways?
>>
any issues with fruit flies?

i'm battling them now. recently draino'd my main drain in the basement and they came in that way.

i'm finding them fucking everywhere and i can only make so many funnel traps.

they keep me from doing any indoor gardening, etc.

>>7064022
it's not the string that's standing sideways, it's merely your perception of said string.
>>
Awesome. I figured they would rot
>>
>>7064022
my strings are right side up you're the one standing sideways

>>7064031
it's too cold here for fruit flies i think, and the persimmons I used were underripe which they aren't as attracted to

that sounds horribly annoying, can you block up the drain again?

>>7064053
i was worried about that too, but they had a nice sweet smell throughout
>>
>>7064055
>can you block up the drain again?
i guess it will in time. my basement sink (giant old cement monster) is the first thing in line with the main drain, which the washer drains into. the drain was plugged from small bits of lint, etc from doing laundry.

they're slowly fading as the cooler weather sets in.

do you have any pics of your persimmons bisected? interested in how they look inside after drying.
>>
>>7064064
you could put an old shirt or something over the sink opening to stop them coming through
those things can find any route through to their goal though

the first pic is from one i sliced up, it's mostly black with some orange
doesn't look amazing but at least it tastes good
>>
>>7063445

It looks like an extremely hot metal rod.
>>
Awesome, Borneo! I gotta try this! How many would you recommend making just for one person?
>>
>>7064379
I only made 3 in this batch because they were 3 for £1.20 but I should've made more because they shrink down a lot. I'd say go for a dozen, that way you have some room in case some go bad or leak.
The completely dried ones should last for a few weeks in an airtight container or frozen. Also would make a nice Christmas treat for guests.

Nice fazoli's
>>
>>7064444
I've heard of storing them with apples or bananas to speed up the ripening process.

It's a painful wait my friend, but it will be worth it.

Do home-ripened persimmons really taste that good? If so, I might get some. Asda do 3 really hard persimmons for 85p.

OP delivered, even a month after the initial commitment.

I'm happy it worked out for you bro.
>>
>>7064592
Yeah, they become soft like jelly and very sweet if it's the bigger oval shaped hachiya variety. If it's the small flat ones they don't soften much but still taste good.

>>7064597
it's good fun and i want to encourage people to try out new things!

Those look delicious, anon. Great job.

I've kind of been meaning to try that myself some day, thanks for the pics, it'll probably push me into actually doing it.
>>
>>7063445
Looks tasty!

Well done, Op
>>
>>7064837
Do it, it's a really satisfying process and the amount of effort needed is little. If you want to be anime, eat it with green tea as a snack.

This is the recipe I followed, it's very detailed and has pictures.

Thank you! I might make another batch for Christmas treats. Not sure if the English winter is suitable for drying fruit though.
>>
>>7063445
how did you get that glow?
>>
>>7065012
violent radiation

(i put it in front of a beam of sunlight)
in reality its shrivelled sticky black and orange bits but it has such a nice dense sticky texture
>>
>>7064444
there are varieties that you can eat crisp, they are still incredibly sweet.
>>
>>7065146
The other kind makes your tongue shrivel up though.
>>
>>7063657
I think they just really dislike persimmon.
