Yeah no. Give me my fucking popcorn.
>>
>>7051881
Surely that's the point though? If they were paid a proper wage, we can all stop tipping and free ourselves from this ridiculous practice.

ahahha no, they charge so much because they can, they pay the employees min wage because its not a skilled job. theres literally no correlation to the exorbitant prices in movie theatres to salary.

its literally jews being jewish. if noone bought popcorn and a drink, they would lower the price to normal prices.
>>
>>7051887
>>7051894
Movie theater attendants are paid properly. No one fucking tips at a movie theater unless you're waving money around.

>>7051906
>they pay the employees min wage
Unless it's a dollar theater, no. And even then, minimum wage is a "proper wage".
>>
The only time I've ever tipped at a theatre was when they had full dining service or a bar. Usually I just sneak a flask in to cheaper cinemas these days though.

Define proper wage?
They make the same as any other min. wage job, usually; I've worked as a waiter, so I'm aware of the legality surrounding tip pay. We don't tip Taco Bell employees or Panera Bread workers (Also worked there and dear god the customers can be bothersome, though not McDonald's tier). Waiters and other tip professions also make min wage. Why do only they - out of all the worse min. wage jobs - get to demand customers pay extra to subsidize their services while others don't even get a second glance by people. I've never seen someone tipping the Walmart greeter.
>>
>>7054195
Falling asleep during the movie and the cops coming in to wake me up. They never arrested me, just walked me outside and made me call a cab. I always carried in a bottle in my pocket and mixed it with my cup of soda in the restroom but the last time I got caught the bottle was on the floor next to me. They said they watch the cameras and I've been a problem for them, if they even see me walk in they're arresting me.

A wage that, if you were to paid it for 37 hours a week, would allow you to pay rent, taxes and purchase food in your local area. Otherwise known as "a living wage".

The only ones who complain are the ones who aren't working hard at it. The tip depends on the service, so if you're dissatisfied with the tip, offer better service. If you don't offer better service, clearly you didn't want that better tip enough. There's literally nothing stopping servers from bettering their own pay other than themselves
but they still want the gubmint to subsidize their own poor choices
.

>>7054269
That's what minimum wage is supposed to be, so that's a different issue.

We know what this is really about. You make far more than min. wage with tips and you refuse to admit that you don't deserve any more than others with comparable jobs.

>muh living wage
Minimum wage is for teenagers/making some beer money on the side as a student. Get a real job if you want a living wage.
>>
>>7054269
That is not what entry level, no skills required, service jobs are for. These jobs are for college kids and high schoolers making money on the side they were never intended to be fucking careers. If you're an independent and you still work at a fucking fast food place or a theater for minimum wage that is entirely on you.

Negotiate your pay with your employer, get a second job or find another better paying job if you can't make end's meet but realize that these jobs aren't meant to make a "living wage". A living wage is possible on minimum wage if you're not a fucking moron.
>>
I live in california, I have never heard or seen anyone ever tip the fucking snack bar guy.
>>
>>7057138
Yeah a flyover wouldn't understand.

I bet you don't even tip the ticket-ripper, asshole. You realize they make like $2.50 an hour and live off of tips right?
>>
>>7054307
>>7054269
>>7054318

So take it up with the USDoL or find another fucking job, don't get pissy with me because I don't want to work for my own money and also pay your wages when I pay for my food. I never bitched about tipping regardless of the flow because it's childish to demand customers of a business pay you for a service twice, and it's greedy for an employer to terminate employees because the big mean law required them to compensate a worker just as much as everyone else.
>>
>>7057155
>bet you don't even tip the ticket-ripper, asshole
Is this a genuine comment?
Are americlaps really like this?

In our theaters everyone but the managers make the same wage- because they rotate jobs
>>
>tipping movie theater workers

Is this some sort of /ck/ meme? I've never heard of anyone ever doing this.
>>
>>7057200
Yes because America isn't a backwater 3rd world Socialist shithole. We have designated job titles and each one makes varying pay but at most US theaters everyone but managers make $2.50/hr plus tips. They live off of tips especially the concessions, ticket rippers, theater cleaners and ticket clerks. You're supposed to tip them all at least 15% of the ticket cost.
>>
>>7057202
You realize these people make like $2.50/hr right? They don't even make minimum wage and their checks are garnished for unsold tickets and wasted concessions. They LIVE off of tips. If you don't tip them you are literally the scum of the Earth and shouldn't go to the damn theater if you're too goddamn poor to tip.

Same thing with eating out, if you don't have the money to tip JUST DON'T EAT OUT! Waiters, waitresses, concession attendants, ticket rippers, theater cleaners, ticket clerks.... These people LIVE off of your tips. Literally. This is their livelihood, if you don't tip don't expect to have any good service next time
>>
>>7057207
Literally none of that is true, no one tips at movie theaters and people who do make tips (restaurant workers mostly) have to be paid at least minimum wage if their normal pay plus tips don't reach minimum wage.
>>
>>7057059
>completely ignoring that that is exactly what those jobs have always been until recently
>>
>>7057207
Neither is my country- the theaters just aren't run by assholes and they pay the people the same for tearing tickets, cleaning, scooping popcorn etc.

I'm serious about the other part of my question- do you really stop and give the guy tearing your ticket cash? I think the 14 year old who tears paper for money is doing fine, I think he probably already makes enough to buy chips and weed.
>>
>>7057215
>Flyover: The Post

Let me rephrase that, people tip at movie theaters in civilized states where most citizens aren't the product of incest like whatever butt fuck nowhere central state you see 747s passing over daily you live in.

If you don't tip you don't deserve a good theater experience plain and simple. It is exactly the same structure as a restaurant. At most theaters in big cities the concession attendants will bring you refills and you either open a tab or tip them outright just as you would a bartender. It's the same principal.
>>
>>7057221
Everything the other guy is saying is false. Nobody tips theater workers. He's just bullshitting.
>>
>>7057221
>I'm serious about the other part of my question- do you really stop and give the guy tearing your ticket cash? I think the 14 year old who tears paper for money is doing fine, I think he probably already makes enough to buy chips and weed.
He makes $2.50/hr... and he has to stand there for hours on end... most people not tipping... having to rip tickets and check people for smuggling food and weapons.. risking his own life and well-being daily for less than minimum wage...

So yes I do stop and give him about $2-$5 depending on how much I paid for the ticket and depending on how fast he ripped it because his continued excellent service and his need for the money is what makes the tipping system work.
>>
>>7051881
You some kind of cheapskate?

I live in New York, and I don't believe for a second that anyone anywhere in the US tips at movie theaters. People who work at theaters don't "bring you refills," if you want them you get them yourself. This whole thread is just one guy trolling gullible people who don't live in the US.
>>
>>7057227
I thought so- I can understand tipping wait staff because you are incentivising good service and discouraging bad- but how can someone fuck up tearing a ticket or putting popcorn in a bucket?

>>7057229
>risking his own life
no
>most people not tipping
(only weirdos like you do)

and could you define what a poorly ripped ticket is? this is getting interesting

I'd like to know what advanced technique these young teen stoners are applying to small rectangles of paper- do they roll them up into joints for you? because that would make me want to tip them
>>
>>7057235
>New York
NY is also the place where pizza is served hilariously wrong and people shit out on the streets in broad daylight. It might as well be the capital of flyover in 2015. I live in Cali and every theater I go to I tip at and the concession attendants do bring refills, I just open a tab and tip them 20% of what my final bill is though.

I refuse to believe other states don't tip people who make less than minimum wage that's just barbaric.
>>
>>7057235
>I live in New York, and I don't believe for a second that anyone anywhere in the US tips at movie theaters. People who work at theaters don't "bring you refills," if you want them you get them yourself.
Thats only because New York passed labour laws in the late 90s forbidding the tipping system in theaters. Theater workers in NY work for federal minimum wage and no longer get tips because New Yorkers apparently never tip.
>>
>>7057241
>>7057246
You forgot the part where you have to tip the bathroom attendants, then when the movie is over you have to tip the people who clean up the theaters afterwards and then tip the people who hold your coat for you.
>>
>>7057250
You should always leave a couple of dollars for the theater cleaner I already specified that but bathroom attendants and coat bearers are only in select upscale theaters so you really don't run into them very often.
>>
How much should I tip the theater shower attendant if he holds my popcorn for me while I take a pre-showing shower?
I usually tip 15% but I think that might be a little low.
>>
>>7057260
Why don't you just buy the popcorn after the shower?
