today I had an especially disappointing meal at a restaurant. This has inspired me to create this thread on how to avoid bad food at restaurants
> know when things are in season. If it is mid winter and there is corn on the menu. it will not be fresh or it will be absurdly priced.
> learn when the purveyor delivers.
> if at fast food restaurant ask for fries with no salt so they make a batch just for you.
> unless you really like well doen steak...

be aware that the restaurant is a business and they try to minimize loss. sometimes they will use left overs and incorporate them into other dishes to save money. Soup is notorious for being made with border line rotten foods. the soup is seasoned heavily but, it will still be obvious the skimped on the ingredients.
you cant make silk out of sow`s ear.
Alexandros - Best gyro ever. In Toronto, Canada. It's in Greektown. All about homemade tzatziki, fresh onions. Traditional ones have tomatoes, but I don't like them in sandwiches as they water them down.
I am autistic.
Actual meat is used in proper gyros. Fuck shwarma, kebob, whatever processed asshole meat that is. Greek people know food, it is some good stuff.
(bumsex that is not gay they know too)
The only gyro I ever had, and it tasted like shit.
Which brand is better?
A bit early but I made these and they are festive enough to share mid-week.
So today's cook-along is Crinkle cookies.
125g 70% dark chocolate
4 table spoon unsalted butter
1 1/2 cup flour
1/2 cup cocoa powder
2 tea spoon baking powder
1/4 tea spoon salt
2 cups sugar
1 tsp vanilla extract
1 1/2 cup mini semi-sweet chocolate chips
1/2 cup icing sugar
1. In a bowl, combine the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder and salt. Set aside.
2. In a double boiler, melt the 70% chocolate and butter. Stir to combine.
I don't know about anyone else, but I don't like water as it has no flavor.
just made these cookies
Do you work in a restaurant /ck/?
Rate my pasta
i just wanted to prove i'm on /ck/
How does /ck/ make its Mexican butter?
>tomatoes in your guac
>no cilantro in your guac
I made this at my friends bday because he requested guacamole. Some girl there wanted to make it and said she prefers hers with tomato and sour cream in it. I told her it's not even guacamole at that point.

I sell pie filling in my little community. It is very popular, especially my apple pie filling variations (candy apple, caramel apple). I've been thinking about making a less sweet, savory pie filling. The type of pie you would top with a slice of cheese. I would add slivered onion and thyme.
Does that sound like something you would eat /ck/?
No. First off, I can't imagine onion and thyme in an apple pie. Second, if you're selling your filling in jars what's to keep it from spoiling if you take away most of the sugar? Apples aren't acidic enough on their own, are they? Sounds like botulism to me.
>80% Vedgies 20% Meat
Yay or nay
Can I make risotto with sushi rice or just regular white rice or is this a bad idea? My grocery store doesn't have Roma or baldo rice. I've only made it once before, it was Ok but not that good. I'd like to try again. I have some nice fish stock I need to use up. I honestly am somewhat intimidated by risotto. Thanks.
Get the right rice. Just do it.
related fuck up: I made risotto once. It was coming along great. I added half the amount of cheese that was called for in the recipe, and it turned into inedible cheesy goop. I should have just made plain-ass risotto.
Yes, it works. Done it myself.
You can make it with any rice indeed. You just need to adjust the amount of liquid and the cooking time (it will take longer with a long grain, so you want to keep the temp on the low side)
I just quarter seasoned a fried egg, as follows:
NE: tarragon and smoked paprika
SE: thyme and oregano
SW: cayenne and cumin
NW: Salt and pepper
My favourite is thyme and oregano but i like the others too. I can alredy feel myself becoming a spicemaster.
Pic related. Everyone post your favpurite egg seasonings ITT!
Hi guys so how long can coffee last before its starts tasting old/burned? Also coffee thread!!!
All depends on where it's kept and how it's cooked. I assume you mean brewed already so...
>Left out, black coffee with no burner
No more than a day
>Left out, black coffee with a burner
It'll be burnt in a few hours
About a week.
With milk, I'd be more conservative on time.
> hating life so much that you need to drink coffee to wake up
Who said anything about need? Some people enjoy the things they consume. Caffeine hardly affects me at all but I still have a cup of coffee several times a week because I enjoy it.
Way to be a tryhard fedora tipper, m8
Plate of scrambled eggs. How are they /ck/?
