Making a big pot of red beans and rice tonight for new years, but I don't think its going to be enough.
What are some side dishes that go good with red beans and rice?
>>7218542
Rice goes well with red beans.
>>7218542
I've never seen red beans and rice on its own as the main course. At least, not without something more substantial added to it - sausage, shrimp, chicken, ham, etc. You could always go for some grilled veggies with creole seasoning, greens, or fried/roasted okra.
Red beans and rice shouldn't be the main course, it's a side dish. If you need more food though and you aren't making any entrees, go with veggies - mashed cauliflower or sauteed asparagus would be good.
I received a milk frother for Christmas.
I'm a drinker of black coffee and don't believe I will hardly ever use it.
It occurred to me that this is potentially a "multi-tasker" (to borrow a phrase from TV chef Alton Brown). Has anyone used a milk frother for other purposes?
The design is obviously similar to an immersion blender. However, it was obviously designed to be used on purely liquid ingredients and *might* serve as a weak, limited use immersion blender, at best.

Give it to your girlfriend and tell her it's a vibrator.

Shit like that is why I told my family and friends to stop getting me gifts for my birthday and christmas years ago. I would invariably end up with useless shit that I didn't want or need or gift certificates to stores that I had no interest in going to.
I told them that if they want to give me anything, just give me cash or a check and I'll buy something for myself. Most of them just stopped giving me anything at all which is fine too since I'm more than capable of buying my own shit anyway.
>>7218511
I don't think your family understands gift giving.
just ate instant noodles for the first time, pic related. it was quite good. i felt like i was Japanese while eating it. i probably wont buy anymore but it was a good experience to try it once. What foods have YOU tried for the first time recently?
Read an article that 'instant noodles' take an entire week to digest because how they're made, put extra strain on your stomach because of it, and you get no nutritional value from it because it cannot be broken down properly.
Fucking. Never.

Maybe if you ate more fiber, it wouldn't stay in your body an entire week.
>>7218409
Or maybe if they weren't made from fucking petroleum they would digest better.
I work at a bar that sells food. On average I get about 8 orders a night. Usual fare, wings, nachos or burgers. I have lost interest in my job due to the fact that my "chef" is unaware of his kitchen. Things I have witnessed at work that unmotivated me are: Shrimp soaking in water in walk-in rotting for over two weeks, spoiled chicken on the line, spoiled cucumber, running out of prime rib meat for sandwiches, running out of floor cleaner, because "chef" only orders one bottle at a time. I might mention, my "chef" hangs around after his shift and...

What are some weird food cultures and myths you grew up with?
Black eyed peas

Someone said this to me yesterday!
I recently relocated to SEO and the widow next door knocked on our door and handed me a plate of sausages and Kraut.
Weird.
>>7217753
Someone posted that image on /b/ and said his grandmother believes in that, so I went here to ask about food cultural norms. Is this shit spreading like a disease or something? I bet I'm going to hear about some weird new sausage and pasta fad in a few weeks.
is it? kinda price senpai
>>7217472
If you buy shit tier, then yes.
If you're willing to spend even as little as $10 for a small bottle, you will know the difference
>>7217474
The difference from mafia oil A and mafia oil A in a smaller pricier bottle?
>>7217645
Pretty much. Buying olive oil based on the price is like buying clothes based on the price. inb4 $500 shirt guy suing McDonalds.
Hey cu/ck/s,
What's the deal with smokers? What are some good ones?
Should you build your own? Is it hard to regulate the temperature?
etc etc
This is my favorite
I own the 22" Weber Smokey Mountain. It has never failed me.
It's important to ignore the autists who overthink and overplan everything. They may (MAY) have marginally better results than someone who just reads a quickstart guide and wings it, but that's it.
I live in the South and I had high expectations. I thought I'd never be able to get anywhere close to what the pros are producing. Then I gave it a spin and was astounded. Anybody with a brain can do this. ANYBODY.
Keep in mind people have been doing this shit for thousands of years....

I have a brinkmann smoker that I caught on sale for $20. Its stock and really you don't need to mod it like a 100 autist will tell you. It does need a better temperature gauge.
Im smoking a brisket point right now. Going to make brunt ends
Looking for some recipe ideas, I'm making cannabis desserts with coconut oil, thus, I need a RICH recipe that I can put 11 tablespoons of coconut oil in. The idea is to distribute the coconut oil between 12 brownies, cupcakes, cookies, etc. Lots of fat, I want something that works with that. Was thinking about using brownie mix but that's for quitters, homemade brownies are swell but I want something a little more delicious.

Chocolate mousse, after making the meringue and folding it in, whip heavy cream to stiff peak and put in your oil while whipping.
Red velvet cookes are also delicious with cream cheese icing
Make them into suppositories.
tfw friends would rather pizza than your cooking on new years
Make party food nigga, no one wants to eat Foodie crap on New Years. If it can't be eaten by hand it's too complex.
>>7217228
theyre dead set on ordering pizza from dominos which i think is a god damn sin that shit is gross senpai
>>7217232
So buy all the ingredients make your own dough and gourmet toppings for your own pizzas while tipping your fedora and commenting about how plebian they are with their low class delivery pizza.
Or you could, you know, not be a fucking tool and just eat some fucking Dominos pizza with your friends and have a good time together.
What the hell do I make for the new years eve? I got people coming to my place. What do you traditionally eat when the year changes?
Only thing I have to offer right now is hotdogs. Should I make real food or just snacks (onion rings or something)?
>>7217096
I wish me and my wife could throw something but her ex is being a dick and won't watch their kids...
>>7217102
Really working that meme kid. I think it's time you stop posting
>>7217096
Just make snacks/appetizer kind of things. Cook an actual meal on new years day.
Have you tried his caviar yet?
I thought good caviar was supposed to have all the roe intact
>>7217107
You are correct.
Now, just a quick thought, if I jizzed on caviar and threw it in some water will it make mermaids?
How are you supposed to cook refried beans from a can? Every time I do they come out way too thick and bland as shit. Help me make things right.
>>7216557
I hate refried beans, but my friend adds bacon grease to them and cooks it in a pan. No idea if that helps
>>7216557
>step 1: don't buy that garbage
>step 2: boil some real beans
>step 3: once done put them in a pan and start mashing them up until done
>step 4: ?????
>step 5: profit
>>7216569
>implying i have the time or energy to do that sometimes
I'm in line about to get a 5$ hot n ready....stay tuned.
K...
There's a long line, they must be extra good tonight..
I remember these pizzas being good about a decade ago. Exactly when did they change their recipe and become relevant again? These new ones taste like shit.
