so I'm a culinary student, I'm doing pretty fucking great in my classes and I have top notch internship lined up this year. If all goes well I'll be in a solid position to go literally anywhere in the world next summer and I'm trying to get a jump on it. Right now I live in the Northeast United States and I could bounce from restaurant to hotel for the rest of my life if I wanted to, learning and experiencing plenty, but I'd like to use my vocation to travel and actually see the world. It's too bad I don't speak french and my spanish sucks,...

for the sake of remaining anonymous I'm not going to say where I go.
but no
I've been thinking about Ibiza, I think if I buckled down I could get my spanish up there. I'd probably need to get a beach body too though cuz right now I look like a greek shipping mogul.
NOLA
Hey /ck/, can anyone give me a good recipe for mashed potatoes?
>>7443585
boil potatoes
run through a ricer or sieve
add any of the following: butter, cream, sour cream, cheese, herbs, etc
season to taste. White pepper goes better with potatoes than black pepper though.
Its also important not to over/undercook the potatoes, over work the potatoes, and use starchy not waxy potatoes. You should also at least be salting your water that you boil them in. You can also flavor this water or use broth/stock to add flavor to the potatoes as they absorb both the water and flavors in it.
Seriously, nigger?
>cube the potatoes
>put them in a pot with salty water
>boil them
>drain when thickest cubes are soft
>put them back in same pot
>lower heat to low
>mash them how you like
>add milk and butter to get desired consistency
>salt and pepper to taste
It's literally...

jej
>acquire potatoes (if it's for one meal, just one large would do)
>peel and chop potatoes into cubes
>boil potatoes until soft
>strain and put into a bowl
>add cream or butter for smoothness - mash that shit up
>add salt & pepper
>add herbs and maybe some vegetables if you want (Marjoram, parsley, green onions, garlic all work well)
>mix and eat
This shit is hardcore. Have you ever done it? Would you?

I don't understand the appeal of Jalepeno Poppers I mean out of all the appetizers you can enjoy how can anyone wanna eat this one?
>>7443423
Because jalapeƱo poppers are fucking delicious.
>>7443442
They're a bitch to eat.
>>7443455
What? You literally just 'pop' them in your mouth and eat them, hence the name.
Why is fundraiser food always so shitty and expensive?
>boyscouts selling shitty overpriced popcorn
>girlscouts sellings shitty overpriced cookies
>little baseball teams selling shitty overpriced chocolate bars and almonds
And these leeches have the nerve to ring my doorbell 20 minutes after I get home from work to stutter and mutter about muh field trip and muh new dugout right when I'm trying to take a shit and get undressed. Sometimes I buy their bullshit but...

because the whole point of a fundraiser is to fund something.
you are paying for the chocolate AND the "feeling" of helping out a cause.
i have a feeling your fat ass gulped the whole candy bar down and you wasted like 4 bucks on it lol
>>7443363
Those fundraiser bars are the finest chocolate bars and they are the perfect shape to make you want to eat them
Flat chocolate bars or turd shaped ones are awful
ITT: Meme sauces
Arby's horsey sauce. The meme happens next time you use the bathroom.
>>7443985
you take that back
mayo-horsey sauce is the shit
>>7443985
>Arby's horsey sauce.
so it's just horseradish mayo? sounds like something a young child would say.
is there a more based eating establishment than places with oversized enormous quantities of decent quality food?
outside of buffets, which are generally atrocious and you risk killing yourself if they're cheap enough, where else can you go and get 3 meals in one order at a superlative level for $25?
pic related, the roast beef sandwich from Harold's (which is honestly the lowest tier of deli). came with unlimited bread, pickles and a side of slaw.
How could you even eat that? I don't exactly mean the amount, but the amount of what it is, i think i would vomit if i ate that much cold cut roast beef at one time
Also, why is some roast beef red and some is brown?
>>7443264
>Also, why is some roast beef red and some is brown?
If it's brown it's either overcooked or oxidized.
Sometimes water just tastes bad
Why?
Because some water sources suck.
>>7443153
This. Some places have good water, some don't.
Which brand is the best?
Never had the one on the right, but it cannot possibly be worse than Maruchan, and Top Ramen is only marginally better, so I'm going to assume Ichiban.
Of those three specifically or in general? If specifically those three only, I've only had Top and Maruchan. Maruchan is better, but not by a whole lot and not like either is particularly good, though they're fine for the cost, I guess.
>>7443112
Out of those 3.
Bakers of /ck/, I work in the bakery of a small grocery store (not a chain) in a lower class neighborhood. We have no stovetop, but a good proofer and five rack oven. Our bread comes frozen. I have Carte Blanche with the items I pull from the shelf to use in things I make, so long as I can make the costs back in profits. I've taken the dept from -$1000/mo to -$50. Any ideas on simple recipes to finish getting into the black?
>>7442957
I dunno. What items sell well in your store or in the area? Poor people like donuts and coffee but you can't bake those. Is this in Europe or what?
>>7442976
Southern Louisiana. I've exploited Tony Chacheres seasoning to its limit, but seafood like crawfish does well. Savory stuffed breads with Meat and cheese do well for a lunch crowd.
>>7443004
When I was living in Baton Rouge I'd always head over to the local market and grab some lemon catfish and rice dressing, plus maybe a kolache but it was always an afterthought. The savory stuff kept me going back there instead of ever shopping at walmart or whole foods, and every time I'd walk towards the bakery I'd immediately see the meat section and wander over there instead.
I'd stick to the lunch crowd - maybe make some crawfish bites or boudin balls?
As >>7435692 has made me realise, I get through about 24 - 36 a fortnight, mostly as breakfasts and lunches. Will this fuck me up or can I up the amount.
>I really, really like eggs
>>7442940
>fortnight
Is that like a fork-knife?
That's kind of a lot. I would try to eat just the egg whites on some days, you can even buy them by themselves in a little container. 36 whole eggs is a lot of fucking cholesterol.
>>7442943
fortnight: two weeks. Britbong term that dropped out of use in the US shortly after independance

PooPoo Johns?
I think not, LMAO.
What do you make for lunch at work?
I have plenty of shit I can make while at home, but there's not a lot I make and enjoy that I can take with me somewhere, other than leftovers. Every sandwich I make tastes like crap for some reason or other.
>>7442281
>Every sandwich I make tastes like crap for some reason or other.
Keep the "wet" components away from the dry components and assemble it when you eat it. Also keep it cool.
The other sensible option is some form of salad; leaves, some veg and something like some chicken or tuna to add protein.
I usually have a hearty breakfast and go the working day without eating. I do manual labor (not intensive), and it works out fine.
I used to just bring a few raw vegetables and maybe a bread roll or something to tide me over, but I find I don't need it anymore.
I usually make a batch of soup or chilli and bring a thermos, that with an apple or banana, protein bar, and rice crackers or figs.
It's a lot, but I have a manual labor job.
Anyone got good soup/stew recipes that I can bring in my thermos?
