So I've been reading about this dish called American Chop Suey / American Goulash.
Apparently it's elbow mac with tomato sauce, ground beef, onions, peppers, garlic, etc. There's no single recipe; I even saw one on Serious Eats that included Worcestershire sauce.
The funny thing is that I make elbow mac plus tomato sauce and ground beef all the time - it's quick to make, easy to eat, and reasonably nutritious. Seems I was making this "American Chop Suey" without realizing it.
Ever had it?
Its just chili mac
>>7058555
No, there's no chili in it.
My nana always made it. It was more like vegetable soup without the soup. Beef, tomatoes, and any kind of canned vegetable she had in her pantry added to pasta.

I've been using bouillon in my water for quite some time now. Depending on what I'm making of course.
like rice for example. Seriously you niggers need to start seasoning your water
I never cook with it, only add salt and seasonings afterwards.
>>7058167
salvadorian gramma does this and I thought it was just what people do,
Some people don't even salt it
So now that the dust has settled and people generally agree that carbonara should not contain cream but should at least have garlic and parsley I'm going to have a go at making it.
Question is do I use whole egg or just the whites? I was thinking of buying pic related.

Who here has had purple potatos? Do they taste different, why are they so expensive?
It depends on the variety and how they are grown. Some are flavorful, but most are bland.
>>7058049
>why are they so expensive?
I imagine that unlike the mass produced varieties grown for commercial purposes, they're much more susceptible to disease and pests.
Also lower demand being another reason that they're not as widely grown.
No clue about the taste.
>>7058049
They are expensive because people eat with their eyes first and purple is not a good color for food. Had it a couple of times. Didn't really recall much of it.

When did Americans discover Spaghetti Carbonara? And why are they so obsessed with it?
I heard somebody saying it had to do with some type of initiation rite into manhood, kinda like the circumcision parties in American families.
When every kid turns 17 in America. Our families take us to Fazoli's. There we have some delicious carbonara made with equally delicious Knorr Chicken Stock Pot. Once we finish our meal and tip our waiter, for the first time we yell
