I want to get into drinking sake but I've only had the swill they service hot at sushi bars. Any typical "starter" sake out there?
>>7804700
I do not consider myself a sake expert, but I do know a little bit.
First off, pay attention to where you get your sake. If you live in the west somewhere it can hard to get the good stuff. Not because of the brand, but because sake does not store well. It needs to be drunk shortly after bottling. The fresher the better. And most places in the west don't sell very much sake. so the bottles you see at the store might have been sitting there for months. before they got to the store they might have sat for...

We have BevMo's where I live, so I think it's safe to say their rotation is probably just a step above a liquor/convenience store.

Good sake is served hot in winter, although bad sake is always served hot
>I-It's all the same stuff, salt is salt
The salt meme is officially dead.
Fractions of a percent. You sure won, buddy. Have some ice cream

Conversions are often to grams, so it's larger than it looks.
>>7804639
What else is in salts but salt? Shouldn't those add up to 100.00% or do these ignore the Chlorides or what have you?
tfw have only been eating scrambled eggs and mustard for every meal for weeks now

Do you have any cardiovascular problems now? Some people seem to think that happens if you do that.
>>7804533
Not that I've noticed...

Publix is the best grocery store
GOAT
coastfags need not apply
>>7804406
Kroger has been becoming better. The kroger near my house has a much nicer store with much larger variety than the any of the publixes near me.
Over priced food at the sake of "constant deals"
B1G1 is really like buy one get other 50% off anywhere else. Good company though.
Thoughts ?

I usually prefer a squeeze bottle.

Let's have a thread where we post our favorite use of honey.
My favorite is putting it on vanilla ice cream.
>pic unrelated
honey on cat
in vinaigrettes
on freshly baked biscuits
on top of some fruit, yogurt and granola
Waffle on plate
Fried chicken on waffle
Drizzle honey
Honey and lemon in hot tea when throat hurts.
Also peanut butter and honey sandwich
What does /ck/ think of grown men in their 50s who eat these?
>>7804076
Is that nuggers or mozza sticks?
>>7804076
Smart
Got plain ramen bricks from costco.
Haven't made ramen since I was a kid and it came with a shitty packet. I have no idea how to make ramen without the shitty packet.
How do I into ramen noodles /ck/?
>noodles not soup
I don't understand, are you asking how to boil water?
>>7804078
>implying /ck/ would serve plain boiled noodles
no you autist I'm asking what to put in the noodles to make good ramen.
and anyway I buy my water already boiled, I'm not poor.
>>7804090
>I'm asking what to put in the noodles to make good ramen
Things you like.
I want to start carrying alcohol around with me. Would a dedicated growler be better for carrying alcohol than a steel water bottle or would they both do the job as long as I clean them after holding booze
Kys
I usually carry one of these, but filled with vodka.
If you're not okay drinking straight, room temperature vodka then you shouldn't need to be carrying alcohol around with you in the first place.
used a plastic one for a while but it held the scent of the booze and it eventually leaked. Got a stainless bottle and havent had any problems since.
Can someone who works in the restaurant business quell my conspiracy anxiety?
If people at a restaurant are done eating and just sitting at the table talking, do you turn on the AC in that
particular area in an effort to make them want to leave?
>>7803896
No, it would be pretty much unheard of to have the ability to control the A/C by the area that much.
A place might have, say, a seperate control for the bar area and then another for the main dining room. But what you suggest is unheard of.
Also, doing that to me would have the opposite effect. I love cold A/C blowing on me.
>>7803896
Alcohol causes your blood vessels to dilate thus cooling you. Drinking cold drinks will cool your core body temp. Many desserts are ice cream based or some other frozen treat again cooling you. This is why you are feeling cooler at the end of a meal. Though it is a well known tactic in restaurants to keep it cooler so patrons will want to eat more and therefore make them more money.
>>7803909
Well now I just have more restaurant conspiracy theories.
Hey there /ck/, greetings from /co/
Someone posted this in a thread over there and I am just confounded as all hell. What the fuck am I watching being made?
>>7803866
>I am just confounded as all hell
Why? It's it pretty clear that it's doritos and instant ramen dumped in a pile with a bunch of sauces and lime juice on top of it. What exactly is confusing about it?
>>7803866
American "cuisine".
>>7803866
Probably some sad attempt at a nacho/salsa bowl. It looks disgusting and should be thrown away.
My cast iron pan's seasoning is very patchy with large spots of bare iron and flakes off a bit. I've been using it for almost four years and it has never been the nice even inky black I see in photos.
Should I admit defeat, burn all of the seasoning off in the oven and start it over again?
>>7803694
Use oven cleaner to remove the seasoning. Follow Cooks Illustrated's method to reseason it. It's time consuming (like all day), so reserve a Sunday for it.

>>7803694
And NEVER wash it with detergent. Just use a paper towel and wipe it out and give it a good wipe down with olive oil
I have had hell trying to get my pans seasoned properly until I stopped caring about them (grilling tomatoes and eggs, boiling water in them) and just doing whatever the hell.
Now they have a nice black sheen
I haven't eaten in two days. I'm gonna head off to a mall with six bucks in my pocket. Beans cost around half a buck from where I'm from.
What should I cook? Probably just gonna buy rice and beans but other ideas for tasty rich cheap food would be great.
what do you have in the cupboard at home?
if you're doing something with beans, grab some tinned tomatoes.
>>7803578
>canned beans
Lentils are better than beans though. Cook much quicker, work amazing with any type of flaming hot (mustard, horseradish, chili...), or curry. Rice/lentils works, but also potato/lentils
Hey guys i got 2 questions
1. How to stop burning the edge of bacon while keeping it still fully cooked and some what chewy
2. How healthy is the home made orange juice (pic related) i used a blender on 2 oranges but i remember the lady at the appliances store who sold me the blender keep saying when i blend the oranges it has a lot if suger? Is it more sugar than lets say a glass of soda?
Thanks
Just microwave the bacon. It's what Gordon Ramsay does.
1. Turn the heat down and cook longer
2. Oranges are healthy
Juice in general is healthy but it is easy to drink way too much. A bottle of apple juice (1L) contains about 2,5 kg apples. You would never eat that much on a day but drinking this is no problem and it contains a lot of sugar which is bad in that quantities.
So I acquired pic related from my gf, it's a failed attempt at jam. She claims to have followed the recipe (orange peels and pulp boiled with sugar in water) and it was supposed to gain consistency after a week, but it didn't. It's basically orange peels floating in sugary water.
She wanted to pour it down the toilet but I took it away because I believe it can be saved.
What can I do to turn this soup into something with more consistency?
its not worth saving, start over and perfect the recipe instead.
why would you want to save it? try tasting it and see its bad
>>7803457
It tastes good that's why I want to save it. It's just too watery.
Also, I don't like to waste food, if nothing works I'll just eat the peels and throw their rest awayvmbm
>>7803451
If your shitty girlfriend failed at following a jam recipe you can damn well be sure she hasnt disinfected the jar properly. Dont save it, it's going to taste like ass.
If she didnt use gelatin, she probably expected the pectin in the rinds to make the jam.
Also, boil it for longer. It shouldnt be anywhere near watery by the time you jar it.
Dont breed with her.
