I love the ruffle on this heart bag. I think I'll do something similar on mine. Currently working on some load-bearing rosettes, felt backing with small metal eyelets for better chain attachement.

Would anyone be interested in a knockoff pink WEGO bag from taobao? I received it a while ago but have lost my desire to make a bag.
Pic related, old iPhone 4s for size reference. It’s in pretty good shape, but since it’s the knockoff the inside is like shown, where the pocket (circled) where the pins/keychains/merch is supposed to attach to is at the back of the bag and short, rather than a separate compartment like the original WEGO bags (or so I’ve heard). Looking for around 15$ for it? Open to offers, though.
>>
>>9057945
post it up on the fb page, you might get more interest in it
>>
>>9057800
I feel like it's a badge with a badge cover and decorated with a strip of rhinestones around the rim. I'm planning to do something similar to my badges once I receive my supplies

Weird mini itabagger problem

>Yukio Okumura is husbando
>Never used to have an issue searching for merch
>Suddenly searches clogged with new series
>'Exorcist' now full of Twin Star Exorcist
>'Yukio' full of Kuroko no Basugay
>'Okumura' is full of Prince of Stride

In other news Kazue Kato aka Blue Exorcist mangaka was just announced for AX. I had no intention of going but now I'm trying to scramble and go. The hope is to get Kato-sensei to draw on and sign my WEGO but I guess these events only let guests sign official merch? I feel like this is in some weird grey area because my bag is full of official merch. I don't suppose anyone has experience getting stuff signed at AX or similar autograph situations?

>>

Different anon but I doubt it because she wouldn't get half as much attention and we'd tell her to shut up after the third daily update. There's a reason why she picked "Braginsky" as a fake last name.

this is a really nice bag. a great balance between homemade and bought. official merch with an official bag but with added ruffles around the heart and pawprints. not to mention the merch stuck on the outside at the bottom is really clever.

I'm looking for a bag to make my Hanayo Koizumi itabag but all I find is a very minty green (I want it more spring green) or they are too big (I want a A4 sized bag at largest)

I already have a WEGO heartbag so not one of those. Only one I found is the one in the down left corner, and that one is unfortunately sold out. Do you know how often Zakkamart restocks, or should I just go for a mint green one?
>>
>>9057837
I've got a Nagito one and I'm in the process of making a couple more! (there's pics of it in the FB group but I really need to get some less shitty photos of it)

Is it frowned upon to print up your own buttons using official art that there is no merchandise of?
>>
>>9059247
Probably, but I've done it and as long as you're not making any money off of it, I think it's fine. If you're in Japan though it might be a bit more frowned upon than if you were say in the U.S. though.
>>
>>9059251
Yeah I figured something like that. I am still buying official merch, I have some straps on my way. it's just that this series has a lot of amazing artwork perfect for buttons, but they don't make any merch out of these artworks
>>
>>9059267
I have a shit ton of merch for my characters and I still had some buttons printed of the official art. No shame anon, no shame.

Finally have a concept made. I fucked up on my original bag (I rubbed the paint off the plastic a little too hastily like an impatient asshole) so I found this bag at Ross that had gaps in between so it's a little easier to hang stuff off of.

Overall, I'm really not feeling the bag itself (but I do like the concept I have) and I hope my Mise Tote comes soon.

Anyone else feel bad when asking artists for cheaper shipping options and (not always) if they can lower the value/send as gift?

EU so custom fees are the bane of my existence, but at the same time I hate sounding so needy and annoying, so I often end up not buying something since I don't want to be that person.
Doesn't help that lately it seems like everything gets hit with fees, even below 21 euro...
>>
>>9059749
Very nice job, I especially like the flower rosette
>>
>>9060288
Artist speaking and it really sucks because there's really not much we can do about it. I think knocking a couple dollars off is okay, but even a 1 oz. package costs $12+ to ship anywhere internationally from the US. Someone got pretty mad at me recently because I didn't point that out in an exchange about a custom item. I ended up shipping it to a friend of theirs in New Jersey who I guess will get it to them somehow and still have to pay that shipping fee?

That being said there's plenty of times I would be happy to pay a Japanese artist ridiculous shipping to get an item from them but Japan really hates shipping anywhere non-domestic.

Depending on the item maybe you could work it out with the artist to just purchase a high-res file of the artwork and get it printed or produced in your country? As an artist I know I'd be pretty conflicted about this but perhaps if you explain your situation maybe they would understand
>>
>>9060067
Eventually you'll pay it anon... this is a deep and dark rabbit hole...
>>
>>9060314
Actually a 1 oz package, as long as it's in a flat envelope can be sent most places internationally for between $3 and $5. I've sent several packages to Europe from the US at that price.
>>
>>9059708
That's fine, I just get sick of her spamming the Facebook group. Its nice to see things from other people.
>>
>>9060318
Please show me where then because I've had a hell of a time finding an alternative. Like screenshots please.
>>
>>9060314
>get it printed or produced in your country

I wish (dw I know you didn't mean it like that)

But in a more serious reply, if I want to get a charm that's not even half a cm thick, and pay $13 for shipping, you have to understand I'm not too happy. A lot of artists seem to want to add track and trace but in my experience, T&T from the US is practically worthless. Also what >>9060318 said, I ship things myself from time to time and a flat bubble envelope is pretty cheap no matter where in the world you send it.

I completely understand artists not wanting to risk it, which is why I'll never get mad at them or even annoyed, but overall I'd rather not pay more then the item's price in shipping.

I have this bag and it is pretty amazing. However I had to get it using fromJapan. 6,700yen with all the shipping and fees it cost me around $90!

If you are in Tokyo you might want to check out nakano Broadway but they might still be marked up over the original 5,000 yen retail price.

But I love it. My only suggestion with the Uta pri bags is that I had to cut a piece of cardboard to set in the bottom to keep it from tipping over from the weight of my pins.

from straight across the middle, and dip of the heart to its tip, its about 16x16cm. Obviously measurements getting smaller at bottom/wider at top. I own this bag too, and while being very fluffy and perfect for the characters, keep in mind other anon's warning about being on the small size because I filled mine up very fast.

For anyone who has ordered from the zakkamart rakuten, how much did your shipping end up to the USA? Planning to order but it won't give me an exact price or anything. Thanks.
>>
tfw when you think you can wait to buy something because there are tons of them, then a couple weeks later, nothing.

They came out two years ago and I figured all those listings had been up for a really long time and would continue to be up for a while, but nope. Not that I should be making a fourth bag anyway.
>>
>>9064822
Honestly I would order from their main site and skip Rakuten. I was informed that they only check their Rakuten orders once or twice a month.. it took them 25 days to finally contact me that my card denied and they finally cancelled my order, had no contact the entire time other than order placed, waiting on "warehouse" but no payment charge.

So I ended up ordering directly from their website and it was 1000× quicker.
Placed order May 25, arrived at Tenso the 28, I got it to my house via ems on June 3rd and I'm 5 hours outside New York, which is where my packages usually come into. Couldn't be happier.
>>
>>9064822
>>9065312
Doh! Realized you also asked for price; my cost from Tenso was $40, granted I did order 3 bags for a group order and thus splitting the shipping, it came in big wrapped up plastic bag..

Honestly I could of probably opted for cheaper/slower shipping but Tenso estimated it to really be only a $3-5 difference so I was like heck yeah let's just do EMS.

Got me some sweet husbando merch from the Tiger & Bunny x Rascal collab but Yuri/Lunatic doesn't have a lot of merch so I'll either do my top three characters from the series or DIY some stuff for him.

Also related is the Gudetama stuff which were gifts from a friend and will likely end up in a bag as well because I'm shameless and could use a yellow knock off WEGO backpack.

Also, I'm selling these Osomatsu-san badges since I just wanted the younger brothers. I was thinking 5$ each if anyone happened to be interested? They're 2.6in x 2.6in, btw!

I got a package today and I was ALL EXCITED to add to my itabag, but it was my Tales of Symphonia straps instead. Which have now been added to my phone, because at like 20$ a strap scalper prices I don't want to think about the end cost of a Symphonia bag.
>>
>>9066965
Oh my god anon. I'm a huge Tales fan, but I don't think I've ever seen a Tales itabag. I would love to make one for Milla/Jude/Alvin or just Elle, but yeah, Tales things are strangely expensive.
>>
>>9066965
>>9067021
I've thought about making a Tales itabag before but none of my favourite characters are popular enough to get any merchandise to make one out of... Except maybe Judas but he'd definitely cost an arm and a leg.
>>
What's the most you've spent on a single item for your bags, seagulls? I'm trying to determine whether spending ¥3,300 on a single button (granted it's kind of big and is supposedly rare because it's a commemorative one?) is worth it.
>>
>>9067164
about 20 bucks for a plush. honestly, unless youre a really serious collector that money could go into getting more less rare merch so it doesnt seem worth it to me

¥2200 for a characters birthday set (6cm badge and keychain rubber).
I highly doubt I'll buy it as my work hours have recently been cut but holy shit is it cute and I still remain mighty tempted

My biggest buy has been for a plush- Noodle midosuji at ¥1800. He's about 50cm/19in long and is a really fun bag addition to weave around the other plushies

I was once prepared to throw down upwards of $50 on a pretty rare character bag, but my proxy failed on me and never placed the bid (and it sold for less than $20 in the end). I'm otherwise a huge cheapo when it comes to merch, and I think the most I've paid for anything is around $12 before shipping.

on the other hand, I've spent something like $120 on a single character-specific piece of apparel, so...

I paid 3000 yen for pic related, they're actually quite big and I'm still wondering how I'm going to put them on with the little room that I have haha. They're exclusives from the Kyoto Animation shop. They can sell for cheaper though, I lost out on an auction that went for 2000 yen.

>tfw I picked up the exact same item in Kyoto and told myself I didn't want it

Non-itabag related, I bought two postcards for 1500 yen each of Haru and Makoto. They were gorgeous and I think they were pretty rare, I haven't seen them sold again. No ragrets
>>
wanting a rare character for an itabag is hard, so a girl is doing a SS at AX 2016, I think her instagram is Fongwin31. I am getting her to get some ita stuff at the artist alley for me. She posted information on the itabag facebbok page.
>>
>just got into a new series
>husbando is the most popular character
>merch is 500 yen a pop on y!ja
>each piece of merch comes out to 900 yen before shipping

i know it's not a lot of money compared to how much others are throwing at their husbandos, especially Free! itabaggers, but I'm so used to getting dirt cheap merch because my other bags are for less popular characters.
>>
>>9067164
The most I've spent total was ¥4000 on a set of 4 plush keychains that's ¥2000 each if bought full price.
The most I've spent on a single piece of merch is ¥1500. It was a HUGE Hanayo keychain, iirc it's 5 inches. I ended up having to take it off my bag because the only place I could hang it was on the strap and it would always bang into my arm.
>>
>>9067164
On a single item? I think around 1,000Y not including international shipping. Thankfully my fandom is years old and I only have to fight to get husbando merch while I can pick up OTP merch for dirt cheap secondhand.

Did almost bid $20 on a used figure though but that was because it retailed for 4,000Y or so.

¥2000 for this acrylic strap of Athena Cykes, it's from the newest game's limited edition and at least it's cheaper than the other main characters.

Can't put it in an itabag but I also spent ¥4000 on a limited edition AA folder.
>>
>>9067194
Including the Japan-only games, anon? Because that's my problem, my favourite characters are Japan-only and no one else cares about them.
>>
>>9067164
I think the most I've spent is around 3500 yen after shopping service fees for one badge. I just had to make that Tradalgar Law bag! I don't think I have a single official badge on that thing that didn't cost less than 2000 yen.

>>
>>9067164
I was willing to spend 3000 yen on an acrylic keychain until someone outbid it from me and I couldn't justify it anymore. A couple weeks later, I found and bought it for about 1500yen (excluding domestic and international shipping.) I saw the other characters being sold for 6000yen though.

I can't think of the most I've spent, but I think somewhere about the 2000 yen on one item sounds right. I can justify it on keychains--buttons not so much....

I'm making a Stahn itabag, anon! He's definitely cheaper than say, idk, Mikleo. And it feels he's been getting a lot of merch lately. It feels like Judas has been getting a bit more too, actually.
>>
>>9071324
Another anon here but I hope you post pics when you're done! I'm also tempted to make a Stahn itabag but I'm not sure yet, even though I have enough merch (and keep buying merch if him) to start!
>>
>>9071436
You totally should!! Stahn's amazing. I know I have so many duplicates of the the same pins as they seem to favour Leon over Stahn.

Fuck. I bought the knockoff but it really looks well constructed. I was sad it didn't include the glitter vinyl though.
>>
>>9071554
If you ever want to sell your green one in order to pay for the mint, I know anons here would buy it.
>>
>>9071554
Your knockoff bag doesn't include the glitter on the window? Link to where you got it, pretty please anon?

i want to make an itabag of a character that doesnt yet have merch any ideas for things to put in the bag that wouldnt seem tacky or look bad etc
>>
>>9072720
money is not so much the problem i am planning on commissioning art of her regardless of whether i make the itabag
>>
>>9072721
If you're commissioning art of her you could buy some of those kiddy make-your-own button kits from a Hobby store and print out the art for those. I'm working on my first bag for a character that has a really small amount of merch and I'm planning on giving that a try.
>>
>>9072739
i have friends with button makers but i worry that fanart buttons will look too plain plus lack that uniform charm of official art dominant bags

Anyone else have that moment where you go to buy merch for one character and end up buying merch for an entirely different character that you forgot you loved?

Aw man, I ordered this because I thought it was the original, another anon who posted the link said it was. Hows the quality?

So I'm new to this and I was wondering, how do you all feel about itabags made without bags specifically used for itabagging (so the ones with the plastic coverings vs just a regular bag you'd find anywhere)? Since for what I've seen so far there definitely seems to be a preference for the specific ones. I was kinda curious if not using one is viewed as maybe an "amateur" or "stingy" kind of thing.
>>
>>9074765
it's not a preference thing, it's a practicality thing. Some merch can be expensive, so it would be awful if something fell and you had no way to retrieve it.

>>9074765
Imo it's fine if your bag doesn't have a cover, but it's like an "at your own risk" kind of deal if there isn't anything to protect your merch. Some merch gets really expensive too, so I can see why people would prefer to have a cover to prevent merch from getting damaged/lost.
One of my bags doesn't have a cover and it's got like a box of safety pins on the back and I'm super careful with it, but I still lost a button at a con (dropped it down an elevator shaft apparently).

Pic related is my bag from when it was still a WIP. It's more complete now.
>>
>>9074765
The Japanese girls early one just used regular tote bags with no protective covers but the clear cover bags only got popular when the trend caught on and shops starting marketing them that way to protect the rare/exclusive merch that was otherwise just dangling off a tote. Just like how now you can go a step further and buy badge covers to make sure nothing gets dirty/damaged.

So it's not really a rule where you HAVE to have a clear cover bag otherwise you're not a true itabag maker, it's more your own level of security.

Clear cover bags seem way more popular overseas and that's probably got 1000% to do with the fact that we pay more for merch than the Japanese so something they can easily replace if it goes missing off their regular tote would cost $15-25 to us depending on what it was. Hence, the majority of people here are getting clear bags to protect their merch.

So yeah, you don't HAVE to have a clear bag and no one will look down on you for it, it's just that we're all paranoid as one should be when you're toting around $100+ of merch.
>>
>>9074780
>still lost a button
RIP, friend. I lost a rosette I'd made in the dealers room of all places but luckily someone saw it on the floor near a booth I was looking at and then saw the matching rosette on my bag and returned it.
>>
>>9074765
itabagging has been around for years in the japanese fan community but only really got as popular as it is now because of the increase in sports/titles directed for the female crowd in recent years. Before that, there were no vinyl coverings, heartbags, itabag making sections at animate etc. Fans used backpacks, pouches and totes without covers for a long time. so it's totally fine.

People (especially overseas fans) just prefer getting them because getting merch anywhere outside of japan is insanely expensive and i would rather prefer to know that my merch won't be dropping off my bag.
>>
so glad AA is finally getting popular, hope to see everyone's itabags soon

Since Click and Ship isn't available does that make it so you have to get the postage done at the post office?

I want to make a Kiznaiver itabag, but my favorite characters are Nico and Yuta, which are vastly different from each other. I'm making one bag with mixed characters atm but they are all very similar characters. This time I'm not sure if I should pick one of the characters or go for both. I'm thinking a black basebag would be the best for both at least

confirmed for great taste. i wanted to make a bag for best girl nico but i can't find merch that wouldn't cost me a fortune to buy so i'm going to wait it out.

depending on the colours of your merch i'm afraid the black might be too harsh. what about white?

I am pre-ordering the Deka Nico and Yuta, and I've been looking around for merch. Most seems to go with white/colored background which is why I thought black would look good. It also matches their school uniforms. I just can't pick one character because I love Nico but Yuta is my first husbando ever

ahh, that is so cute...
if the merch has a white background then maybe black would be best, i just assumed most would be transparent/clear.

you could always make separate bags if you desperately want to do both, or do one character for each side of the bag if it's double sided.
>>
>>9075010
>>9075030
another thing you could do if you can't find that much merch is make your own plush toys or badges of the cute characters nico wears (shoes, phone, belt), and the fluff in her hair.

As long as the buyer has paid through PayPal then you can print the postage through PayPal. Otherwise you would have to go to the post office or use stamps. I've gone the stamp route a few times in the case of non-PayPal sales.
>>
>>9075282
Different anon but you can print postage via Paypal even if the buyer didn't pay through it. I do that all the time with people who pay via gift or something.

For anyone going to the AX meet up and want to get rid of their old heart bags or base bags I am willing to buy them if they are colored pink, light blue/sax, light green, and any shade of pastel/normal yellow. Send me a picture on my email to see what you have and I will pick it up at AX.
>>
Well I ordered one of the WEGO heart bags today finally. How much merch can you generally fit into the heart pocket? It's hard to get an idea from pictures, especially when there's repeating buttons.
>>
>>9074988
is there a link to an online store that's selling Kizna merch?

As other anons have said 'The sheer cost of getting merch is enough to warrant a protective cover for your investments'
You don't have to stick with those brands though, There are a few other options if you're willing to get creative or hunt around on taobao.

One thing you can also do is make your own clear cover. Clear vinyl is easily available at fabric shops and you don't need much sewing experience to put one together. I don't know a single proper stitch and was able to hand sew mine with a larger diameter bent needle that was originally made for wefting. The bag I have the cover on actually has all my most expensive merch!

Tote bag or backpack?
And it also depends on the size of the merch. Badges from japan can vary from 2cm up to 10cm diameter and keychains can vary too from 2cm up to 25cm. If you're worried about not having enough merch, buy some socks or a face washer to place in the main section of the bag and build up around it.

I found with my WEGO heart tote bag, I averaged:
13 x 8cm badge border
or
22 x 4-5cm badge border

Backpack, sorry! Thank you for the pictures, these are great refrences. I'm making it for one of the girls from the new series of Love Live, so the wash cloth idea is a solid one until the inevitable surplus of merch is made.
>>
>>9075399
I'm also in the market for base bags.
>>
>>9074765
I put buttons on my school backpack all the time and I have seen many buttons fall off when I was being too rough with it... I'd prefer using a clear cover, but I need to get off my lazy ass and make one!

Back pack will be easy them, the pic attached isn't my bag but I do have the same merch with a dif character. Badge is 5.5cm and big key chain 11.5cm. This should give you a good starting point for how much merch you'll need. I've found going with a big key chain and face washer worked really good for both my budget and bag.
Which love live character?
