One of my cosplays is almost done and im looking for material for the second one

My job didn't give me Thursday and Friday off, And I have school Thursday so im going to probably only attend 3 days
Honestly....preparation is better than last year!

im surprisingly well prepared for a con for once in my life lmfao. i have my pass, time off from work, train ticket paid for, and room booked
still havent paid for my portion of the room or finished my cosplays yet but im pretty close
also mfw my direct deposit goes through on the first day of the con
>>

>How prepared are you?
Strangely more prepared than any other con I've attended even though I'm still halfway done with my main costume, because all of my costumes are very straightforward outfits this time instead of armor & fake ears/tail & a million little accessories & endless snaps and Velcro to keep things in place.

>>

I've found that group chats really help you get comfortable with meeting people at the con.

There was an e-mail and kik floating around not too long ago in the other threads. Just wait for something like that to pop up.

Overall plenty of people seem to be going to AX alone so just don't be a creep and be social you're bound to find someone else there looking for a friend.

Me and the bf's hotel is booked and paid for, the flights to and from LA are booked and paid for, our passes to AX and our tickets to Super Live are bought and paid for (we have seats in the Loge with no one directly in front of us.) We also have purchased our dumb weeb shirts we're wearing to the con together, and we have a good chunk of change behind both of us to play around with at the con.

The only things we have left to do is to purchase a camera for our trip, purchase our buss passes, and plan out what we'll aim to do each day. We can do the first two relatively soon, but the third will have to wait until AX finally releases its damn schedule.

So, all in all, our ducks are in a row so far.

Original anon here. Money isn't the problem I'm just having a hard time deciding which friend group I want to chill with. The first group are my close friends but the majority of them are annoying as hell at cons and the other ones I work with but don't know that well. Its more of a do I really want to spend $50 more to be in a room with loud weebs or do I want to pay less and possibly sit in awkward silence.

>People talking about paying $150-$250 for a shared room

Why didn't you just reserve a room when the hotel block opened?
>>
>>9054996
The majority of people with shared rooms are sharing it with friends so it would make sense that everyone would chip in. In other cases I guess it'd be cheaper to share a room rather than pay for an entire one by yourself. I'm driving from Anaheim so I don't have to worry about rooms or whatever.
>>
>>9054995
I'd go with the cheaper ones honestly. You can still hang with your friends at the con and you won't have to deal with them being loud at night. I'd rather spend less on a room and more on weeb shit desu.
>>
>>9054996
A room for 4 nights at the JW Marriott through the AX block is still over $1000.
I'll be luck if I can get a split down to 200 per person.
>>
>>9053934
I still have to make a scythe from scratch, style wigs, and make a mask.
Otherwise done as I'm gonna get, I think.

got massively fucked over financially by my tax refund, cosplay shopping and the announcement of Final Fantasy XV, The Last Guardian and Persona 5 getting release dates motivating me to buy myself a PS4 for my birthday after AX. But other than that, I'm prepared, since my cosplays are easymodo with 90% of it in the bag, the days off work are placed 10 months in advance and got my budget for everything from hotel and such allocated accordingly with nearly $500 for anime swag.

Pic related. The playlist for the Roadtrip is even made ahead of time.

A lot of people either didn't attend in lolita or just didn't attend at all. I have a feeling it will be about the same or slightly less this year. There was also a lot of itas out last year too so good luck if you go to the meetup.
>>
>>9055126
It's easy...I did 3 at Fanime in one day. You just bring your cosplay with you in your car or hotel room and go there to change. There are a lot of gatherings I want to go to hence why I'm wearing so many.
>>
>>9055580
Make her watch some anime with you. Something entry level to at least stir up some interest. Try One Punch Man since there will be a lot of OPM cosplay and you will look cool pointing all of them out
>>
How much are you playing for your room?
>>

You're fucking boned.

But really, this is probably gonna be your shittiest AX if you like to nerd out.

Maybe the two of you can wear kigus? Try out watching super normie and super popular stuff together (so when youre walking around she can see cosplays of those things).

If this is for somebody you're romantically interested in, end the night with good food in LA. It doesnt have to be expensive, but hey, everyone likes food, so its a good way to leave off on a good note. Little tokyo is a safe option (Kula, Oomasa, Mr. Ramen, Shin Sen Gumi) and there are some good places in Ktown as well (Cafe Concerto, Slurpin Ramen Bar, and TONS of great dessert cafes)

lol its not like she does makeup or styles wigs so getting in and out would be fast. Also considering all her "costumes" are shitty good will crap. They want swatches and photos of major steps or techniques used. If you are building armor for example, include pictures of major steps, painting,, sculpting, embellishing. Same thing for sewing, showing pictures of individual progress for parts of the costume, wigs, and any extra details they could miss judging.

I had the same question too anon!

Oh really at the Omni? Cool, yea I had 6 people pile into the Miyako last year but I wasn't sure about any other hotel. Two of us unloaded the luggage and checked in, asked for an extra keycard cuz "we might split up at times" and then we just told the others to come in separately afterwards.

I'm guessing announcing an enormous guest like the Blue Exorcist mangaka two weeks before the con is pretty typical? Never been to AX and don't care about guests that much but this is huge for me and I'm posse there's so little notice.

Being alone is 1000x better depending on how cool your friends are.

My first time at AX, I went with an insanely charismatic group as a tag-along kid and it was great.

My second time, I went alone and I made friends with a couple groups and had a great time just shooting the shit with random people everywhere.

3rd time I went with a group of close friends and it sucked donkey balls. Too restrained, trying to find each other is a pain, ect
>>
>>9058905
It's best to have a mix of both. Sometimes you want to be in a group (especially anything involving a line) but other times you want the freedom to do what you want at the time you want
>>
>>9058811
Yep. I'm going to miss being at the Omni this year though, because they have water dispensers in the lobby with fruit in them, so my group would always fill up water bottles before leaving haha.
Yeah, that's pretty much the way to do any room stuffing. Oh, and I don't know why, but for some reason we needed to use our key card in the elevator to select our floor. If we pressed it without the card, it wouldn't light up/move. It wasn't like that for the other floors. Just something to be aware of when figuring out how many cards you'll need.

Sayori autograph session with Sekai Project. Anyone got any idea how they're going to handle it? Last year with Isuna Hasekura you could buy a bundle of stuff and get an autograph ticket. I'd expect something similar for this year but wouldn't hurt to see if anyone here had some insight.

Well, for the first time my budget for the entire con is now $100 not including food. Had to pay some expensive car repairs that drained my budget.

Luckly I paid for my hotel ahead of time with my group so ill just be very picky on what I pick up at the shops this year.

Before the housing site ended the westin was showing a double/double for the 30-4. Might try calling them.

i'm going to pay for my room and board today, then i gotta finish coloring the polka dots on my leggings. thankfully i have a car and access to craft supplies (though it's a pain in the ass to get to michael's all the time just for fabric paint pens) but after that i'll more or less be done!

So, what's the deal with the 18+ Maid/Butler Cafe? From what I understand, the butler cafe is gonna have dudes in yukatas and the maid cafe will have bunny girls. Are they going to put on some kind of burlesque show, or would I just get harassed by 4/10's for expensive drinks and lapdances like a strip club?

I'd buy a ticket just to watch a bunch of awkward nerds getting overpriced lapdances, though.

they stop staffing the doors later in the day. basically they're sending the message "it's not okay to attack when there's a ton of people in the main lobby but if you want to attack during the evening go for it." this ignores the fact you could just bypass bag check by shooting your way into the main lobby.

Anyone who's flying solo this year at AX is welcome to join our kik group (download the app and scan the code). As long as you're not a super weird, unsociable person, you're cool.

I'm willing to organize a small meet up to hit Little Tokyo, possibly grab some ramen, and hang out. It'll depend on how many people are interested, but it'll be fun and you won't be spending all your time outside of the con alone.
>>

I've never used Kik before. I'm embarassed to ask, but what sort of usernames do people use? Stuff like SteveH204, or just normal online handles like you'd see on Steam?

Please don't let the group be like last year. It was infested with guys, most of them creepy, thirsty dwarves that were just looking to find a girlfriend. If you organize an actual meetup, can you make it all female?

In 2013 (first and LAST AX, thank you very much) the lines were massive, went out of the main con area, and people were at serious risk of getting heatstroke from standing outside in 100+ degree sunny weather. An elder tier oldfag (bald guy easily in his 40's) told me that years ago AX had bought misters and freestanding awnings years ago and had them in storage somewhere, but either the important people forgot about them, or they just didn't want to pay to actually transport them, get them out, set them up, and use them

they started trucking in pallets of water that year but not for 2015 because it wasn't as bad outside. wouldn't be surprised if they do it again this year because this year's summer is supposed to be hotter than normal

badge line was a billion times better
autograph line wasn't too bad because tickets for that ran out fast because people were lining up early and it didn't get that hot in the morning

Wasn't planning on going (and haven't been to an AX in three years), but got last-minute invited by a friend yesterday. The kicker: I'm leaving on a roadtrip tomorrow that will drop me off in LA on Day 0, so I've had one day to throw together a new cosplay.

What's parking like? Is it worth trying to find a lot through the map on the AX website, or should I follow anon at the Westin above and park there to take the shuttle?

Also, I was looking through the AX website and saw the "quiet room" - has anyone used that before? It's an unusual addition to a convention (within my limited experience).
>>
>>9062324
Welp to answer those questions

-Are you just going for one day? If so then just go early to the con and park there. If not then go park elsewhere like the lot in front of westin or millenium then utilize the shuttle.

-Quiet room is pretty much self explanatory. You go there to charge phones/3ds/vita/camera and to sleep if you want too. If I remember correctly that is also the area where you can read manga. I could be wrong on that though. It is honestly not that unusual since the LACC during AX has so many unused rooms, they started adding more shit in the past years.

So I am guessing if I want to have a chance at something like FLCL panel, I should go 2+ hours before.

I expected to be early but two hours early or so, that's quite a long time to wait but thanks ya'll for the tip.
>>
>>9062337
test the water, by that I mean go ask where the line for FLCL would be at a good 2-3 hours before it starts. Go ask what Hall/Room it would be held in, and how many people it can hold. A competent staff should know this shit. Afterwards go and see the 'line' and try to see what your actions would be.

during the Bandai panel last year, I spent about an hour in line and barely got in; line snaked around to the main staircase in the entrance of the Hall

It really depends on the panel but it doesn't hurt to line up early; worst case scenario, you just got to rest for 2 hours, maybe talk with someone new (unless you're going with friends) and miss another panel.

>>9062010
I've never gone to a /cgl/ meet up in past years, so I wouldn't know what they were like before. I came with a group of buddies the last two years that I attended AX, so I only ever lurked some threads on /cgl/ and that's it. I can see how that would happen though. As of right now, there aren't many females in the group (I think we only have two). I'm most likely the one who's going to be organizing the meet up for our kik and I'll try to keep that from happening. As stated, our group doesn't have a lot of females, as I imagine a lot of girls/women share your fear of cringey dudes hitting on you. I will say that anything I organize IS NOT going to be for that type of shit. If anyone is trying to pull that, they can fuck right off and I won't invite them to anything. If anything, I'd say just check out the kik group for a little bit. If it's not for you, you can easily just leave the chat.
>>
>>9062481
went with a buddy to our first AX last year and were gonna attend the seagull meeting, but as soon as we saw how many guys there were, we just decided against it. I do feel bad for the girls (there were some qts with awesome outfits) because you could just see some of the guys undressing them with their eyes.

I might attend the meet up, just going to depend on whether I can book a room or not; don't want to risk driving the hour back home under thr influence. If I do go, first round is on me
>>
>>9062511
Well, I have no idea what the turnout is going to be like and who will actually come. First get-together that I'm going to be doing is Day 0 during the evening/dinner time. I might meet up with a couple people from the kik when I arrive at the convention center and have lunch too.

If anything, getting an uber might be an option. I might do it since I probably won't feel like walking from the Westin, or LACC, to Little Tokyo.

If you're still in the group, and you feel that way, feel free to leave. I'm not sure if someone's given you a bad impression but, as far as I know, most of the active chat members are fine. Give me some examples of how cringe I am though, because I'd sure like to know too.
