Now this is a topic I was planning to ask /cgl/ since I am investigating Honoka's details for a cosplay I want to make (my first tbqh). I can say as much that only a minority actually tries to come close to her original hair style. The majority I could find on the known sites were just putting up the orange-brownish wig, making a side ponytail and top it off with a yellow ribbon. That's it.
A lot of honk cosplays I found weren't bad by far (ok some were, but that's a different point), but it's just the hair that gets mostly neglected. Especially 2-3 points were standing out (pic related).
1) Right side (looking in honks direction) of her hairline, where her hair is combed or tucked to the side. Most common variation I saw, was the same as in >>9056904, where the bangs get swept aside without further care.
2) Her ponytail is kind of tied together with her longer hair on her left side. Sometimes you can clearly see how the hair is tied together, sometimes it does look like it is just clipped on (obviously it isn't). If you take better detailed honk scene from the anime, you can see some of the areas of hair bound together, but still often too simplified to tell, which parts exactly. Therefore alot of cosplayers go for the easier version and will bind only a small bunch of longer side hair together.
3) Is kinda hard for me as a non-native speaker to explain. Her side hair is supposed to be shorter the closer you get to the front of her head with the shortest on the side bangs that frame her face left and right. It's basically like a layered cut. But the important point is, her longer hair is only on the more backish side behind her ear. A detail that rarely gets attention.
Honk's hair is definetly not out of the league of impossible things, but does need extra patience and care to get the details right and not become "yet anothor out of many".
