I actually have not worn this specific set, though I'll be wearing it for the first time to ACEN. I cosplayed at Con Alt Delete as a standard XOF operator without the mask and tank. I wore a balaclava and threw on some Smith Boogie Regulators instead.
It was a smaller con, but a few people actually recognized me. The con was on the weekend that the new Star Wars movie came out, so people somehow thought I was a Star Wars character.
I'll also be cosplaying as a BF4 US multiplayer assault Class soldier for ACEN (so sorry for being off topic)

Kojima's tactical advisor seems to have a love affair with Blackhawk! gear. The harness that you see on the XOF solder actually looks to be literally modeled off of the Blackhawk! 30RH00 Type II rappelling harness, which is what I'm wearing.

MGR Raiden is pretty mid-tier in skill level when it comes to Raiden's outfits. (The easiest being 2den and the hardest being 4den in my experience.) There's a lot of tutorials out there for the kind of craftsmanship that you'd have to do for Rden's armour, so it's a lot more straightforward than 4den, which has a lot more prominent synthetic musculature to factor in, as well as all the translucent bits. (ex: how you gonna be able to sit with translucent butt armour?)

My only wish is that the white under-kimono was a little more ripped up on top too, so that Raiden's tattoos could be visible. Maybe that way he'd be a touch more recognizable?

You might want to grab a Steyr TMP / B&T MP9A3 rather than the Mac10 you got there. They are available as airshittery, too. Either you get the cheapo plastic version or you look into a KWA B&T MP9A1 GBB, which has the proper stock, too. That babby sized Mac10 looks out of place.
Additionally, get different gloves. Those are both too heavily padded and too big for your hand. They need to fit like a second skin. You can find sizing tables for your hand to determine proper glove size, use those, and also look into some proper range/shooting gloves. They aren't even more expensive, just, not shit.
And get your straps in order. That's a mess.

Gloves fit just fine, they are Nomex aviators gives specifically sized for my hands.
As for the gun, did you not look at my reference photo?????? That gun is the closest match to the concept art. Yes, the actual game weapon is different than the concept art weapon. My setup was purely based off of the concept art. Not sure why you are nitpicking in the first place, since all of the guns in the game are frankenguns.
On to the straps, yes they are hanging off of me. I never cut them due to the fact that it is extremely hard to adjust the SCBA harness while I'm wearing my mask. On top of that, I was wearing an actual level 3A bulletproof vest under my tactical vest, which limited my arm movements quite a bit.
So I'm thinking of cosplaying genderbent Snake (I wanna cosplay him, but I'm really short and have a really round face, so it would just look stupid to cosplay him as a guy), but I'm not sure if I should change something about the costume or just keep it the same as normal
I know some people think it's lazy to just like change the wig, but I feel like if Snake was a woman he'd wear the same outfit anyways.
I saw one girl do like really short shorts with the military shirt and it just looks really dumb, since that would ruin the camouflage aspect and just felt really ooc

I think you're on the right track just wearing almost the same outfit as Snake is actually wearing, just the clothes in female sizes. It's what ladies in the military do so it'd make sence.
I'm going to do a cosplay of Venom Snake this Halloween and I've been gathering together pieces for the costume ahead of time
One problem I keep running into is what kind of BDU(or [insert other acronym for uniform here]) should I get? I don't think any would look quite right tucked in or out and still have that seemless look it does in the game or those sideways pockets(I've also noticed Snake's fatigues tend to only have two pockets)

Look for tiger stripe camo BDUs. I think the closest thing that you can find that has the seamless look and slanted pockets is a flight suit (He might actually be wearing one). They make tiger stripe flighsuits, but be prepared to pay out the ass as they are expensive as hell.

so they use slightly altered uniforms.
You'll find that the exact tiger stripe pattern doesn't exist (either you'll find ones too brown or too green) and that the pocket placements are usually not perfect.
your best bet is going to be buying the Rothco brand fatigues or genuine gear (the tiger stripe there is a closer match to snake, and are comparable pricing)
Expect to spend about 70 bucks on the uniform.
I'll go ahead and give you a tip on the vest. It's an LBV -88 that's made from solid color fabric instead of camo with straight ammo pouches instead of (attached) diagonal ones.

they can't go into a local weave store because they get mistaken for being a drag queen.
Order online? well for the longest time, ordering blind meant a wig that's way too small for the average american male head.
You've also got to remember, most of those guys likely got 90% of their outfit at a local army surplus store. It's not like they'll know about arda, epic, etc.
And of course there's the fact that matching beard to wig can be difficult.
But yeah, they should try harder. At least have your hair long enough to pull back if you're venom.

the problem with having a bandana translated correctly out of the games is that when snake was drawn, rendered and made they didnt have his forehead size in mind or even showing when he was drawn. so he has what i would call Tiny forehead syndrome. as it is physically impossible to have a forehead height of 2 to 3 inches while a normal person has an average forehead height of 4-5 inches so the bandana looks wide and goofy as hell when people wear it the correct way. so in the end result we have to either have forehead showing or our eyebrows showing if we want it to look right.
I'm in the process of making a bikini for Paz for Colossal based off of this design. Here's to hoping anyone would recognize it.
